Japanese localization issues: Willy, Linus, Alex, Lewis, and Gus
I noticed a few issues with the Japanese localization and wanted to report them together.
1. Willy — Unnatural sentence structure
Willy has the following dialogue:
「滝の間にあるには、変わった魚が一匹いると聞いたことがある…」
The phrase 「滝の間にあるには」 sounds grammatically unnatural and makes the sentence difficult to understand.
The original English is:
“I’ve heard a rumor that a special kind of fish can be found in the pools between waterfalls…”
A more natural Japanese translation might be:
「滝と滝の間の水場に、変わった魚が一匹いると聞いたことがある…」
or:
「滝つぼには、変わった魚が一匹いると聞いたことがある…」

2. Linus — Inconsistent first-person pronouns
Linus’s first-person pronoun is inconsistent across different dialogues and situations.
Normally, he uses 「オレ」 (ore), but in some situations he switches to 「わたし」 (watashi) or 「僕」 (boku).
For example, different pronouns appear during certain events, such as the Egg Festival and the Feast of the Winter Star, as well as in dialogue inside his tent.
Using 「オレ」 consistently would make his character voice more consistent across his dialogue.
⸻
3. Alex — Duplicated subject in dialogue
Alex has the following dialogue:
「あなたはエブリンは『巻きずし』を見るとはき気がするからものすごく嫌いなんだって。」
The subject appears to be duplicated: 「あなたはエブリンは…」.
This makes the sentence grammatically incorrect and difficult to understand. It may be a translation or text-substitution issue.

4. Lewis — Sudden shift to formal speech after completing a quest
When reporting the “Red Slime” eradication quest to Mayor Lewis, his first response suddenly uses formal/polite Japanese:
「おや、マーレさん!スライム問題の解決に協力してくれたのですね?ありがとうございます!」
Immediately afterward, Lewis returns to his usual casual and friendly style of speech.
This sudden change in politeness level feels inconsistent with his usual dialogue style. Using his standard casual/friendly tone here as well would make the conversation feel more natural and consistent.
5. Pierre — Typo in dialogue
Pierre has the following dialogue:
「ここだけの話ですが、店に誰もいない時、私はカウンターでオペラの練習をすることがあんです。」
「あるんです」の「る」が抜けており、「あんです」になっています。
A corrected version would be:
「ここだけの話ですが、店に誰もいない時、私はカウンターでオペラの練習をすることがあるんです。」
⸻
6. Qi’s quest — Item name inconsistency
In Qi’s quest “Four Precious Stones,” the Japanese text currently says:
「4つの貴重な石
プリズムジェムを4個見つけるんだ。それを私のコレクションボックスに入れてくれ。」
However, the Japanese item name used in the game is 「レインボージェム」, not 「プリズムジェム」.
It would be more consistent to use the game’s existing item name:
「レインボージェムを4個見つけるんだ。それを私のコレクションボックスに入れてくれ。」
⸻
7. Hay — Unnatural counter for large quantities
The game displays:
「ほし草を215つサイロに入れた。」
「つ」 can naturally be used for small quantities in Japanese, such as 「1つ」「2つ」 or 「9つ」. However, using 「215つ」 sounds very unnatural.
For larger quantities, 「個」 would be much more natural:
「干し草を215個サイロに入れた。」
8. Gus — Inconsistent way of addressing the player
Gus uses different forms of address when speaking to the player in different situations.
For example:
- 「マーレ」 — in letters
- 「マーレさん」 — in his dialogue at the Saloon
- 「マーレ」 — when giving the player a gift during the Feast of the Winter Star
The change between 「マーレ」 and 「マーレさん」 feels inconsistent, especially since these are established dialogues in different situations.
If Gus is intended to use a consistent form of address for the player, it may be worth checking these lines for consistency.
Thank you for taking the time to look into these localization issues!
