What's your approach on decorations?

I’m incredibly bad at decorating in any game, I’ve been practicing though, I plan on decorating some of the smaller areas first and slowly expanding outwards to try and not get overwhelmed.

@Ferris Bueller is an insanely talented decorator and his sheds are really well done and have even been showcased on some game websites. I’d totally check out his profile
thanks man! <3 i really appreciate that! btw i'll upload a new farmhouse design later...

This game offers lots of customization and one thing, looks better than the next one! Have you got a special design, or favor practicality and "time/resources-economy"?

I myself never decorate outdoors areas, because i would like to save up maximum space. I've never once built a single fence, either (will have to sometime, to get the achievements for crafting every item), preferring to leave my animals roam free. No fence door, too. I don't favor paths, because i can always place something else in their stead, such as wild grass for livestock, riddle the field with lightningrods, create lots of fish ponds and build sheds for both storage and machinery (am not a fan of filling up quarry, bus tunnel or other areas up). I never decorate animal buildings or sheds.

Indoors, mainly house, i use only the most basic of housewares, such as couple of nice looking windows (ornate?), plasma TV, phone, mahogany furniture mostly, a lively red rug (monster?) and classy wood colored flooring. The only painting i hanged, are the ones yielded from museum rewards and the secret once per savefile, fished from volcano forge. Am considering to get the Birch double bed from desert merchant, in exchange for a pearl. I also placed around the house, musem statues and crystal rewards, the trophy for perfection and a stone statue that i don't remember where i got it from.

What's your approach, on decoration? Could you share your patterns, possibly with a nice looking photo together?

another way to "decorate" the sewers, entry to the mines: https://forums.stardewvalley.net/th...damned-riverland-farm-heres-a-solution.27085/

I really try and balance functionality and beauty and like a more minimalist style of decorating so that there's lots of space around everything. This is becuase I like getting to places quickly and having everything laid out so I can take a clear path to everything.

But...I'm branching out a bit, inspired by the amazing work of @Ferris Bueller and @Igorferreira72 that they have shared lately. I'd like to have a nice looking shed like them that I can enjoy looking at as well as it having an optimal layout.

Lately I've been into opportunistic pre-Furniture-Catalogue decoration. It turns decoration into a fun scavenger hunt at the Traveling Cart and Robin's, rather than just scrolling through a list of every decoration in the game. Like, if you find the Traveling Cart selling the Queen of the Gem Sea painting, pick it up, and now you're on the lookout for more nautical-themed decorations to go with it and maybe some complementary wallpaper/flooring at Pierre's.

Wow, this is like a work of art! Mm, 45 year, i knew this would be a taxing endeavor. Since i am planning to make the most out of the game though, i will try to copy some ideas and make my assets, more pleasing to the eye! I haven't even colored any chests or buildings, yet!

I can't thank you enough! Other than unveiling more gameplay possibilities (since some decoration items have certain ways to be used and functionalities some players ignore), seriously, your decorations are really nice to watch!

This is a nice way of approaching decorating! It's fun to find out what the cart and Robin have instead of just having everything available.

The Sheds, They are my favorite part, Lately I have been creating new themes, I made a Desert one, But my favorite is the Jades, When update 1.6 comes, I hope for new decoration items to create another one.

I work on my farm as I go, so it's hard to know when I am finished with an area. I do like a lot of colour though!

HOUSE
Screenshot inside abzkelly's farmhouse

I like to tie in functionality with design! In the house I have a bin by the front door in case I forgot to sell something, phone and calendar by the bed for morning and night checking, and a tv close to my main walkway for weather checking.

FARM

I like to put a worm bin or two by some crab pots (behind the shed) on whatever farm layout I have so bait is right there for me, and recycling machines for trash too! I really want to update my layout because the mix of straight lines and the diagonal path is an eyesore to me. It helps me get to my farm area faster, but at what cost!

I keep my preserves jars by the ponds for quick preserving, and same for farm machines with animals.

And I plan on moving my kegs to a shed, but right now they are just hanging in the greenhouse - for the ease of immediate processing.

GREENHOUSE

Most recently, I have moved a shed beside my house in one save for my “main operation”. Having a bunch of chests around a workbench, crystalariums, and other late game machines is nice! I also have a separated “smelt zone”.
I liked decorating my cactus corner with fun stuff too!

Again, this farm is by no means finished, but this is how I do it! I look forward to perusing this thread for others farm inpso!

I love the panelling between the skeletons! I can find that wallpaper overwhelming but this is the perfect way to tamper that.
The purpose was exactly to divide the Skeletons, I also think it looks cool like that, It was the only one that matched the Pirates music, Well, I loved the variety in your house, It was really cool, Lately I tried something different in the houses, The first photo is my main and current save, the second one is from my farm on the beach too. By far the games room was the most complex, It's ridiculously difficult to beat the mini-games to get the arcades.

That games room is amazing!! I 100% want to get the machines for my current main save and know it will take me quite a bit.

I love the symmetry on your beach farm save, it’s so pleasing to the eye. But, I am a sucker for colour like in the one you are currently working on. The way you did the yellow pyramid behind the big statues?? Amazing!

And the use of that wallpaper behind the deluxe fish tank is just perfect. I’m taking notes.

Game machines are very difficult to get hold of, I placed the pyramid behind because it seemed half empty, So I think it looks cool there, Symmetry I try to apply as much as possible, But it gives a certain pride to see your house all planned.

Me too actually, I think the new farm type is one I’m going to dedicate to decorating, beach farm is so good looking so I’m hoping CA continues to adds some more natural terrain in the new farm.

I'm honestly way too excited.
