Windows No sound at all anymore

For the last 2 days there has been no sound when I open or play Stardew. I have my pc hooked up to a TV and the sound is fine on that. I've also played music through my pc to check and it works fine. I've played other games too and there's no issue with the sound. It's just with Stardew, and only the last 2 days. It was completely fine before that.

It's unmodded, the sound is switched on in all the settings within the game but nothing is making a difference. I run it via Steam.

Version is v1.6.11
Windows PC
Single player game

Another bump. Still not fixed. Still no sound.

Hello,
I have six suggestions for you to try:
1. Verify integrity of your game files on Steam.
2. Make sure you have the latest Microsoft .NET framework installed.
3. Make sure you have the latest XNA framework installed.
4. Make sure your sound drivers are up to date.
5. Try switching DirectX versions. Get the latest DirectX if you haven't got it.
6. When Stardew Valley is running go to your sound devices, try switching to another output/playback device. Stardew Valley could be using the wrong output device on your PC.

I hope these help.

Thanks for replying. I'm not that great with PC's so I'm not sure what hat XNA framework is, but I'll try googling. I've been in the sound settings without SV and it's all the same as it was before, and I've tried tweaking it with no change. I can play other games with no issues, so I don't feel like it's my PC, I feel like it's Stardew itself. This has been happening since there was an update a few days ago just after they launched the 1.6 on mobile/console. It was all fine until then and The Sims and other games all run smoothly and with no sound issues whatsoever. Sound drivers are fine, otherwise none of the other things would work. I can play games and music fine. It's just Stardew. I haven't seen anyone else having the same problem though unfortunately

One other thing - what do you mean about verifying the integrity of my games files on Steam please?

Googling would help with a lot of these. Whilst some games work fine on your PC with outdated software/drivers, SV may not, so having everything up to date is best practice.
Regarding Steam, if you go to SV on Steam, properties, local files and then click on verify integrity of game files, this will ensure you have no corrupt or missing files.

I am having the same issue! I am playing on steam deck but since the update I have no sound at all and it is only stardew. Everything else has sound

I’m not much help but please let me know if you find a fix :)

Hi - not sure if you figured this out yet, but I was experiencing a similar issue in Windows 11 / Steam and these steps - specifically, sub-step 3 under step 1 which has you delete your startup preferences file fixed the no audio issue for me. Seems it got set to steam output somehow I'm guessing which doesn't have actual speakers associated. Make sure you have the game closed when you do this, then relaunch after you make sure the speakers you want the game to use are set in Windows AND they aren't muted:

It would be nice if the game itself had more sound output controls to help get around this in-game, but at least there's a workaround of sorts it seems.
Hope this helps!
