Windows [BUG] No audio in fullscreen when using a resolution other than 1920×1080

Stardew Valley 1.6.15 — Steam — Windows 10

I have an audio issue related to display resolution.

My TV's native resolution is 1920×1080. When Windows is set to 1920×1080, Stardew Valley works normally in fullscreen, with both music and sound effects.

However, if I change Windows to 1280×720 or another resolution, Stardew Valley still starts at 1920×1080. When I enter fullscreen, there is no music and no sound effects at all.

Changing Windows back to 1920×1080 immediately restores all audio.

I have already tried:

  • Reinstalling the game.
  • Verifying the game files.
  • Deleting startup_preferences.
  • Changing the resolution values in startup_preferences.
  • Using -w 1280 -h 720 in Steam launch options.
  • Checking the Windows volume mixer.
  • Running the game without mods.
I also tested the Compatibility/Legacy XNA version, and it works correctly in fullscreen with both music and sound effects. It also works correctly with the different resolutions I choose.

This seems to be an issue with the current version's handling of fullscreen, display resolution, and audio.

I really love this game, and I didn't have this problem before. For now, I will play using the Compatibility/Legacy XNA version, since it works correctly with the resolution I choose. I hope this can be fixed so I can play the current version normally again. Thank you for everything! ♥
