Your favourite farm layout?

ello. i need a distraction from the ache of not having soup so. what farm do you usually play on? i'm personally scared of going back to standard farm after playing both forest and wilderness since september.. too much space that i don't want to clear

also belated happy new year !! i spent mine running around in the middle of nowhere and like the mature person i am,, writing stupid things in the sand to eventually get run over <3

I like standard farm best because there's a lot of space for me to go wild with farm buildings, crops, etc. There's so many possibilities. I like being creative and planning out my empire.

As for second most, I'd say maybe Forest farm. It's just really pretty with the greenery and foliage. It's smaller, but it has enough space to complete everything still. It's great.

Third most is probably Four Corners, but it's practically tied with Forest. I like organizing my farms neatly and the quadrants help.

Four corners is my jam. When I’m starting out everything is crammed into one but slowly I expand and everything has its place, nice and neat :)
also the greenhouse is in a pretty decent spot

Embrace the space!

Either go Beach or Standard and let the far end of the Farm go fallow. In my first save, I have still yet to clear out the far end of the Standard Farm by Year 5 and the chaos is glorious. My cat could not be more happy, the Mushroom Trees are expanding, Linus invited relatives to colonize its depths, and only a few X-Files shows were filmed there.

I've only actually played on the Riverlands, Standard and Beach Farms, but I've seen enough of the others to give my opinion. Enjoy!

• Beach – More space then I'll ever need, the best looking farm in my opinion, and there's always something surprising along the shoreline.
• Four Corners – Also plenty of space, also looks spectacular, and you can get Copper on Day 1!
• Standard – Heaps of space here (notice a trend?), the easiest farm to move around, and there are plenty of other people's farm layouts to take inspiration from.
• Forest – The Hardwood is great, the natural blend that the trees along the border provide is immersive, and you can catch Woodskip in the pond.
• Riverlands – The fishing is fun, but mobility is a real issue, as is space.
• Wilderness – Now that you can move the Greenhouse it has nice space, but there is too much water and the monsters can be annoying if you don't turn them off.
• Hilltop – Talk about mobility, this farms is limited and cramped, and the "perk" of the quarry is it takes up half your farm and ores pretty much never spawn there.w2

I don't want to sound too negative about the Hilltop farm because it's unique and special, but I just find it a little frustrating when somebody is walking around their very own farm and constantly stubbing their toes.

I really love the beach farm. Sure it’s large, but the southern point is basically a ready made pasture for animals- just add fencing. It’s beautiful and the limited sprinkler usage forces you to think creatively. I say go for the beach farm.

Can you choose to turn the monsters off in wilderness farm? Thought you got monsters on that one regardless which is why it was the hardest? Only reason I settled for forest so didn't have to fight monsters every night!

p.s. how do I move my greenhouse???

Turning the monsters off is a late game function, but it should work on the wilderness farm as well.

Once the greenhouse is repaired, you can move it at Robins shop like any other building

I found turn off monsters at night in settings as soon as I started up my game after pressing X and then the settings tab (switch version) but on the set up page it mentions monsters at night for wilderness farm where you choose which farm but doesn't on any of the others so thought that must be the hard level farm.

For the greenhouse...I stood in front of it and on it but not getting a 'repair greenhouse' option or even anything that says you need so and so first, you can't fix this yet etc

Yeah don't worry about the Greenhouse, the path to get it repaired will become apparent in time. I would agree with the idea of the Wilderness Farm as the "hard" farm.

My favorite is the Standard Farm, it's got wide open spaces and lends itself well to massive industrialization, which I appreciate.

The Beach farm is fantastic, it forces you to scale things back and keep things chill, and it's got plenty of space for all your long term plans. So if you want a nice relaxing farm it's a great way to go.

I love 4 corners as well, not just for Multiplayer, it's a great map.

I haven't tried the Forest Farm yet, that's likely coming next for me. Riverlands and Hilltop didn't sing for me personally, but maybe I'd appreciate them more with another attempt at them, I feel like I was trying to play too "vanilla" on them and only seeing their flaws, instead of embracing them for what they are. Overall I appreciate the maps and the variety of playstyles they support, it's likely just that I enjoy the "vanilla" playstyle too much for any of them to really have a chance vs the standard map. Beach and 4 corners aren't far off though.

I like forest farm best for hardwood, foraging and great fishing. I love how it sits between cindersap forest and the backwoods, blending into what I imagine must be a great woody forestland to the west.

I spent some time on my Forest Farm last night and managed to catch up a bit, got the furnace and the silo so now I can clear the weeds and it gets turned to hay...got 2 little chickens now.

Can you buy the upgraded barn straight off if you have enough gold and wood etc? or do I have to buy a normal barn first? really wanted to sort my duck pond out in that farm as have massive pond that would look great with loads of ducks on it!!!

On the 4 corners farm I haven't got any animals on it yet. I'm still clearing it and trying to work out how to make the most money quickly. I might put cows on there first so I can make milk to give to Penny, also planted more melons and poppies on there cos they're her favourite. Would like the kitchen early on this farm so I can make her some poppy seed muffins as that game save is all about getting Kenny & Penny together!

Honestly I love all the layouts because they all cater to something different. I really do like the standard layout because you can focus on progress with fewer geographical limits, but then again some of the other ones like the beach layout are more fun and chill.

You have to buy a normal one first, then a big coop and then a deluxe coop. So. Much. Wood. At least Robin sells wood for only 10g each your first year.

Barns and coops... you have to build a basic one. Then, if you have a basic barn/coop, it makes the big barn/coop available to build, but you don't build it separate, you upgrade the basic to big. Then, once you have a big barn/coop, the option to build a deluxe barn/coop is available, and again, you upgrade instead of build it separate. If you're going to want 10 deluxe barns in the end, you need to factor in the cost for 10 barns, 10 big barns and 10 deluxe barns. This is an investment.

Personally, I almost always choose the Forest Farm. It's just so cozy and lovely, but they all have their pros and cons.
