Campfire

Why would we throw perfectly good food into the fire?
Well, not on purpose surely, but if somethings starts melting when put over a fire, it'll probably drop into the flames... Idk, what you two bring with you, so it was just a hint. Would be kinda sad, wasting food that way...

What if we find crabs there?
Yes, we.
Consider that.
If the campfire is set up at an ocean beach, it should be possible to find some. As long as they don't attack me, it's fine. Good luck crabbies 🤞🏻🦀

Oh, okay, idk why I thought you meant we won't eat our soap and just toss it there to burn.
Sometimes it can make stuff taste better or at least not worse, assuming you can fish it out of there. Still better to try and keep it on a reasonable height from the ground.

Yeah, we don't need any hurt feet. My alphabet would look cursed then, which I guess it already is, considering where it was created, but thats enough curs -iness for one letter.

Well, tbh, I'm still wondering why you want to eat soap? Do I really want to know? Or is it some kind of joke I just don't get? I tried it as a child out of curiosity, but it didn't taste half as good as it smelled, so I spontaneously decided not to go on with that. 🤔😏😉

Because we infected each other with excessive love for soap and now we're conducting research on how to make it taste better.
I can share results so far, if you'd like to know those.
not good. better alternatives present.

There are more exapmles of things that smell way better than they taste...

Why am I not surprised by this rn? 🤔😉Yeah, if you find a tasty version, please let me know—I might give it a try then.

Putting an unreasonable amount of cinamon sugar or honey on it seems to work. Also sour soap is alright. Feels like something the soap was trying to be it's whole life.

Not sure, if soap would be a taste-improvement to cinnamon sugar or honey 😏😇 Maybe it'll turn out to be a nice project for young scientists, invent an edible tasty soap... Nice side effect, it also cleans your teeth and throat 😂

But the goal is to improve soap. Do not reverse it that's dangerous. First you put our recipes backwards, then people play songs in reverse and search for hidden phrases and messages from demons. Or maybe that timeline needs to be turned around...

OK, I get it... When you reverse soap, you'll get paos, which sounds a little more weird, than having the "th" added in the middle. But well, I have to admit that my robot vaccum cleaner got pretty good in summoning dust demons out of the rugs, and after feeding them with some paos, the rugs are cleaner than ever... Something worked in a way. 🥰 Just waiting for the cleaned demons to accompany with your pet ghost, they'll make a dream team, I suppose 😂

Oh wow. My humanized robot vacuum cleaner sits in the corner, displays Jerry on himself and is in general pretty tame. Since he doesn't summon any demons, dust or not(despite having dust in his name), I'll gladly take yours and hope they become friends with my ghost.

Maybe feed him some paos, too? Or convince Jerry to take over control?

Unfortunately, I need it all for the research and Jerry is to busy munching on people's memories to bother with video game robots I've decided to make into cardboard costumes. Maybe another bribery will get him to cooperate...but that'd require giving him paos...
Tough choice.

Alllllllrighty, I've got a story for y'all except I don't think marshmallows would fit the weirdness of it, so get something stranger to snack on.
Also today the fire is black. Don't question why and how I did it, any further interaction with that magic is potentially dangerous.

Credits to my friend who has weird dreams from writing weird stories before going to bed.

Three little yesnaks…
They go to the mall.
The yesnaklings, they go by groceries
Except, yesnak A bought tomadachi life instead…
Yesnak B sent yesnak A to the moon.
Yesnak C eat ten big hamburgers…
There is no real yesnak.
Yesnak doesn’t exist.
Yesnak was never here.
It’s all an allusion.
No one saw anymore Yesnak.
As they all slowly disappear into the darkness.
It’s forever gone, without a trace.
It won’t come back.
But the truth is,
Yesnak wasn’t here.
They weren’t Yesnaks.
But no one knows what they are.
Or is it just a dream?
Am I dreaming?
Are you in the dream?
And do you believe me?
No one really knows.
It’s all a mystery, good night.

Hope you sleep well after this :D

Alright, folks, midnight is around the corner here, the DARK flames are still tangling over the driftwood, time for another creepy short tale, a campfire classic as to say... Or better a poem I wrote a few years ago, clearly inspired by some childhood memories woven with a music video of The Cure "Lullaby" and a bit LotR... I hope you enjoy the scary touch, the translator did it's best 😇

Fetch some coal

She calls me, saying the coals
are all gone again
I don't want to hear her
I don't want to go to the basement
it's so dark and cold down there
and there live spiders
the big ones with the fat bellies
the hairy legs and shimmering eyes
at night I hear them whispering in the house
in the corners outside my door
for sure
Mom says spiders don't talk

There she calls again
I cover my ears
just simply won't answer
maybe she'll forget it
and if not I'll hide
in the closet or under the bed
there are only the round fuzzy dust bunnies
Why don't we have a shed
like our neighbors
Why are our coals in the dark basement
maybe it's because to remind them of home
Mom says coals come from deep in the earth

She still calls, suddenly standing
with the bucket in the door
Jette, what about the coal now
I have to cook…
The cellar door creaks, the coal bucket
pulls heavily on my hand
Mama, you know
it's dark and cold down there and
there live spiders
the big ones with the shiny eyes
they whisper so loudly at night
that I can't sleep

Mom, something's crawling on my arm
in my face, yuck
wiping it off doesn't help and I
forgot the flashlight
I'm surrounded by sticky threads
stumbling over my legs
the bucket clatters into the dark
rustling, clicking, scurrying
Mom, come get me, where are you
Here she comes, the big one grabs me
with hairy leg-like pincers
there are whispers from everywhere

Summer's nearly over and tomorrow I'm heading off for a week late summer holidays. So here's another short story at the campfire... Gather around, grab a snack and listen to a story by Richard v. Volkmann-Leander:

The Story of the Queen Who Couldn't Bake Peppernuts* and the King Who Couldn't Play the Brummeisen**

Once upon a time there was a Kingdom named Macronia with a handsome King in his best years, who considered himself a rich man in many cases, but unfortunately he was missing a Queen. So when he got up one morning, he asked his Minister:
"What if I finally find me a Queen? Do you think I'll be successfull?"
"Oh, Your Majesty, I'm pretty sure you will be", said the Minister, "there's no doubt about that."
"But... She has to be pretty smart and beautiful, if I should like her. And most of all she has to be able to bake Peppernuts for me, you know that's my favourite cookie."
As the Minister heard this, he actually started doubting, but didn't tell about to not discourage his King.
No sooner said than done: the royal carriage was hitched up, and the king set off with his minister to visit all the neighboring kingdoms where there were princesses to be married off. But in the end, they found only three princesses who were so beautiful and wise that they pleased the king.
“I’m afraid I can’t bake peppernuts” said the first one, “but I can make little sweet almond cakes instead. Will that satisfy you?”
“No,” replied the king, “peppernuts are simply my favorite treat.”
The second princess laughed at him and said, “Leave me alone with such nonsense—there’s no such thing as a princess who can bake!”
The third princess, finally, was the wisest and most beautiful of the three, and the king was utterly smitten with her. However, she didn’t even let him ask his question; instead, she asked him herself if he could play the Brummeisen. She would only marry a man who could do that, for she loved hearing it more than anything.
So the king and his Minister returned to Macronia, disappointed and sad.

After a while and a lot of thinking the King finally said to his Minister: "There's nothing to do about it, me and my Kingdom need a Queen, Peppernuts or not." And he sended him off to the first princess to once again ask her if she would marry him. But when the Minister arrived in this Kingdom, she was already married to another King.
The second King told him, that unfortunately his daughter had become ill and died shortly after.
But the third princess was still alive and unmarried, and she said to the minister, “Dreams are just dreams, and some are especially so. I’d actually like your king, even without the Brummeisen.” And she agreed to become queen of Macronia.
Delighted, the minister traveled to his king to deliver the good news. The king rewarded him with a medal and immediately arranged the wedding.
In the hustle and bustle of the celebrations, both the king and his queen forgot all about the Peppernuts and the Brummeisen, and lived very happily together for a long time.

But then came a day when everything went wrong. The king got out of bed on the wrong side, the imperial orb slipped from his hand and shattered, the court painter had drawn the new map of the kingdom upside down, and to top it all off, it was raining and the queen had a headache... And so it happened that the couple got into their very first argument—about what, they couldn’t even remember later. But one word led to another, and the queen said to her husband, “Now just be quiet already—you can’t even play the Brummeisen!” No sooner had these words slipped out than she clapped her hand over her mouth in shock, but it was too late. The king simply retorted snidely, “And you can’t bake Peppernuts either!”
For the first time, the queen failed to reply, and both of them retreated to their rooms, grumbling. The queen sat down in her armchair by the window, wept bitterly, and called herself a fool. The king, however, paced back and forth in his room, muttering to himself over and over again what a stroke of luck it was that his wife couldn’t bake gingerbread cookies; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to retort with the grumbling iron. And after a while, this thought made him happier and happier, and he decided to go look for the queen. When he stepped out into the hallway, it was pitch black, for it was still raining and the servant had forgotten to light the lamps. So he felt his way forward in the dark, but suddenly stumbled into something soft that let out a startled cry. He recognized his queen and asked in surprise:
“What are you doing here in the dark, my darling?”
“I was on my way to you and wanted to ask for your forgiveness,” replied the queen.
“But you don’t have to do that,” laughed the king, “I’ve long since forgotten our silly argument. But do you know which words we’ll ban from now on, on pain of severe punishment? ‘Peppernuts’ and...”
“Brummeisen.” the queen finished his sentence with a laugh. And from then on, they lived happily and harmoniously until the end of their days.

*Peppernuts = some kind of gingerbread cookie probably
**Brummeisen = a kind of jaw harp or mouth organ, musical instrument

this is a tale of a man who died in this exact spot 57 years ago.

he was a fine man, had a wife and one daughter.
the year was 1979, and his name was george miller.
you see, his 7 year old daughter had a strange speech impediment and coughed once every few minutes as if she was trying to clear something out of her throat.
it was a bright sunny day on june the twenty fifth, and he was grilling up a birthday lunch for his 33 year old wife, and children were out on the lawn playing games of tic tac toe and other things.
the daughter was talking to her friends and he decided to videotape the cute conversation. but at one point, his daughter started spewing out gibberish, and everyone laughed including the father and his young child.

later that night, he went to watch the tape, and he tried to rewind the video back to rewatch the moment of her saying the strange words she did. but as he turned it back, he noticed something strange. the seven year old had been speaking backwards. she said something about a void, a dark entity, and a coming danger.
and thats when he noticed it.
he paused the video quickly, fumbling it around to get a better look.
in the bushes behind the lawn was a dark shape, almost humanoid but also not. in the fuzzy frame, he could make out a skinny torso and long lanky limbs. and he looked away to the daughter and suddenly, even though it was paused, she whipped her head towards the camera, her eyes white.

he woke up gasping from the nightmare, and slowly calmed down. but right before he drifted off, he heard gasping and screaming coming from his daughter’s room. he jumped out of bed and ran to her room, to find her convulsing, her eyes white and bleeding. she was gagging and coughing. her mouth expanded to the size of a sewer grate, and a long black arm emerged from her extended jaws. he ran from the room and into the backyard only to be caught in the grasp of the strange creature. it had no eyes and its skin was pitch black, its mouth was dripping bleeding viscera and flesh.
he screamed.
and it bit him.
