1.6 Update What happened in your game today?

Today was the first day of Trout Derby and it was another demonstration of how unlucky I am with RNG.

I was aiming for the Mounted Trout. There are 10 items in the reward items pool, so I needed 10 golden tags at most. And even less if I was lucky with the first item picked in the item pool being the Mounted Trout itself or close to it.

With a probability of 33% for a golden tag per rainbow trout, I could expect to have the required amount with around 30 trouts caught.

Unsurprisingly, I only got 4 golden tags on the first day with more than 40 rainbow trouts caught. That's a 10% probability of golden tag instead of the 33% one...

But it got even "better".

When I went for the rewards with my only 4 golden tags, the first item picked in the pool of reward items was... Deluxe Bait x20! How lucky: the first item right after the Mounted Trout in the list, meaning that I needed to find the max amount of golden tags to be able to loop through all the reward items pool, until I get the Mounted Trout.

When it comes to RNG, "lucky" is not a word for me...

The Ice festival messed things up for me. It was only on Friday of that week that I remembered to check the Special Orders board. Fortunately, Emily's SO was there, which I can complete in a few hours. The other was Pierre's Prime Produce, and I won't grow all that many gold quality vegetables in winter. I also restarted that day, as I only realized it was SquidFest after night had fallen, and my rod was not prepared for it (no bait, trap bobber on the verge of breaking).

Reached the targets for the two days, even if I was rather worried on day 2 when I'd spent 8 hours and only caught 2 squid... Somehow I managed to "win" in time to run home and get to bed after picking up my prizes. Also caught the submarine-specific fish during the night market.

All 3 sheds built with bought wood and now I need to fill them with their intended machines before I upgrade any of them.

Two skills left to max out before I can access the mastery cave: Fishing and Combat. Guess I need to fish a fair bit more. Combat should take care of itself with monsters roaming the farm and going down the mines to chase dust sprites and mushroom floors. I have also restored the bus and bought some seeds from Sandy.

Caught the Legend on the first rainy day in Spring year 2. Had to use food to boost my fishing level for it though. The fish after that made me level up. Now only Combat stands between me and the mastery cave (and at least 10,000 points of experience, otherwise there's not much reason to visit it, imo) Still no burglar ring, but in looking for mushroom floors, I beat the void spirit goal.

Got my first rabbit's foot, and traded it for the special charm. Had far too many bad luck days in the first year, so even raising it a little will help.

Ended up having to restart Spring 5, as my phone got low on battery.

At first I thought you said you caught the legend on Spring 2 year 1
That would be impossibly fast for me. I'm lucky if I can get to Fishing 3 before the end of the day I get the rod. More often than not I'm still a few catches from it as I'm not good enough at fishing to get perfect catches at low level.

Wow, that's fast btw. Congrats! 😀
Thanks! The predictor seems more than a little off for the mobile version when it comes to weather and night-time events as the seasons wear on. It didn't mention the meteor I got late Winter, even if it was right about the 3 crop fairies during the Summer. And it predicted a Spring entirely without rain, so when the TV said it would be a rainy day, I jumped on it, fishing as much as I could on the day before the rainy day, hoping it would get me to Fishing 10. But it didn't despite 35 catches and most of them either perfect or with a chest. Then spent the rainy day almost entirely by the lake, using about 45 pieces of bait. I thought it might be my only chance unless I used a rain totem.

One good thing with the predictor is that so far it has been spot on when it comes to what's going on with different floors in the mines.

Got the burglar ring, then reached Combat 10 when I went to get the golden scythe. Now all experience points count again, for a while.

Accidentally hit Vincent's birthday with a gold quality grape. Trying to his and Jas 8 heart scene before I have to wait until year 3. Now I'll really have to work on Jas. Fortunately I've got a few gold quality fairy roses, and 2 stardrop tea if I get desperate.

Another meteor allowed me to get enough iridium for an iridium band just in time for the desert festival. Managed to find one prehistoric floor (the size of mine floors 1, 41, and 81 ) with a staggering 1 pepper rex in it. At the end of the festival, I had enough calico eggs to buy a magic rock candy and one of the 3 pieces of headwear. But so tedious to have to pick twice at just about each stone, especially the days when I forgot to bring the bombs. Really made me wish for enough iridium to upgrade the pickaxe. Still, with a lucky lunch in addition to the festival food, I found enough shafts. The festival also allowed me to reach my first mastery, even if I've yet to claim it.

Well, year 6 is over now, it was quite a busy Winter, but it was worth it. Got a second fully upgraded Coop for the Dinos and ducks and the fourth Dino is in process... And fenced a little area to make a Flower garden in Spring.Robin built me a Cabin there also, to serve as kind of a garden house, we'll see. Got her a golden Goal Cheese for the Winter Star and received an Emerald from Pierre... Elliott gave me the usual bottle of Wine. AND I REACHED PERFECTION 💪🏻 Got the last needed friendship at Winter 27, so I went to Fizz the next day and bought the last three percent. Me and my sweet pretender climbed up the Summit at Spring 1 Year 7. He was quite impressed and lost some kind words about it. So, let's see, what's next. Plant the Garden and wait for a golden Egg. 🥰

Local Legend
Rabbit number 104, Rutherfordium. Or, rather, Rutherfordiu, because the name field doesn't accept the final letter.

I'm running out of ideas for other things to set up. The sewers have a nice combination crab pot/pineapple greenhouse; I have a saltwater crab pot set up at the south pier (since this is on a beach farm); the cabin is slowly being filled with kegs and crystallariums and the island farmhouse is getting preserves jars. The mushroom logs and tapper forest was relocated to the little green area south of the tillable patch; I could add more crab pots there, but I don't like being reminded of how the freshwater pond there is glitched on the Switch still.

Also, the crafting glitch nuked my collection of jellies. I might have to fish some more to restock and maybe make more fish smokers - I should go fishing anyway, because I still need at least two dozen more golden animal crackers.

Managed to complete both Spring-specific special orders. I was a bit worried as it was towards the end of the month, but I had enough forage saved to make (and grow) 30 wild seeds to supplement the naturally occurring forage. Reached my second mastery level while completing the first special order for summer, and I have to say that hunting bug meat for Willy is a lot easier with the burglar ring, and it only took me two days to complete. Without that ring, it often takes me most of the week.

Still need a bit of hardwood to repair the ship, but I've got the rest of it ready for delivery. It irks me a bit that I can't use the hardwood I've got for mushroom logs, but the mahogany trees on Ginger Island will repay me for the brief deprivation. I've got some mahogany trees growing up at the railroad, but even with tree fertilizer I may reach 200 pieces before any of them is grown. Most of my first 12 mystic trees have grown though, so I should start seeing more purple mushrooms next harvest. They'll get outfitted with tappers next time the oak tappers are ready, since both types of trees take a week to fill the tapper.

Note - trees on your farm can drop seeds (plant them on open ground near them). That way, you can get more mahogany seeds from one mahogany tree (if you leave it fully grown for a few+ days). This can be doubly useful when trying to get seeds for mystic trees :D

I know. It does kind of require planting them in an area visited daily, or the dropped seeds might start to grow. However, trees planted for the purpose of speeding up gathering hardwood wouldn't be given those days if planted on the farm. And it turned out I was wrong about the railroad trees. Most of them were ready to harvest.

That reminds me. I should plant a few oaks for seed farming, possibly some maples too, as they are getting in short supply. Mahogany seeds are relatively easy to come by on Ginger Island, but the other tree seeds not so much.

Gone a few times to Ginger Island and fed 51 golden walnuts to various parrots so far. In the volcano I somehow got both types of chests on successive floors on one trip (soul sapper ring and hot java ring). Ran out of time on another, and decided to fish for octopus the following morning. Reached the top of the volcano on my last visit, and got the dragonscale boots on floor 9. Now I can go there and combine the rings I want. Even if I've yet to get the slime charmer ring (not far though), I've got a lucky ring from panning. Not nearly enough cinder shards or dragon teeth for my needs though, so I'll need a few more trips, even if some of my visits were mostly to look for cinder shards.

Started a new challege. I can only eat, sell and gift one item and I'm going for diamonds. Spring 10 I found my first diamond and with some quest money, I'll get a copper pickaxe tomorrow. I remixed the CC and got lucky with the garden bundle, but I don't yet know what's on the bulletin board. I already have a lead rod while I'm only at level 55 in the mines, so that's feel lucky.

Summer ended and I got a friendship blessing from the statue of blessings on the festival day. Have been working on the friendships so the blessing was very welcome and allowed a few more villagers to reach my "can be ignored" list. Got Leo's 2-heart event.

Done a few more visits to Ginger Island, and put up some quality sprinklers with regrowing crops, not all though, so it's a work in progress. Also went to the forge in the volcano and made my "4-in-1" ring (iridium band + crabshell ring) Still no slime charmer ring, so the other combination ring will have to wait. I got 2 banana saplings (and more mango saplings than I need) from the golden coconuts before I got the skull for the large animal. Was lucky enough to find a mummified bat on my latest visit to the volcano, so the skull is the last piece for Professor Snail's collection. Have now fed 81 golden walnuts to various parrots, so I'll be able to enter the walnut room soon.

Ran into a problem with expanding my mushroom log grove. I need to get more acorns for making mystic tree seeds. Also figured that the burglar's ring is probably better when going to the secret woods. 2 rolls on the loot list for the slimes there should mean there's a bigger chance of them dropping mahogany seeds. Also the better ring for the volcano.

I failed to catch the legend on the last rainy day of spring Y1 . It didn't even bite until the trout soup buff wore off. I'm not good enough to catch it at lvl 10 fishing it seems, even with trap bobber and deluxe bait. Other people who have done that must be built different.

I think there's also a fair bit of hoping it will behave nicely. Sometimes Legend takes long enough pauses to eventually reel it in, other times it's a complete yoyo and just a waste of bait and effort. Trout soup is a rather poor boost, but in the first year there's not that much to choose from, unless one's been lucky with the Saloon trash can or having been able to buy something better from Gus or the traveling merchant. A sea jelly would've given the same boost, but lasting a bit longer.

I've never been able to reach Fishing 10 in spring of year 1, in part because there's so much else I want to do. Most often I've caught it in year 2. But I did use the same equipment as you had. Only difference was that I had a bit better boost from food.
