Thursday was another day where almost everything Rowan did beyond watering plants and petting animals and working in the pottery was fish, fish, and fish. Of course, that casual dismissal of the day kind of erased the fact that if they did all their farm chores including all the foraging, and all the machine swapping, they rarely started fishing before 6 pm. There was a reason they were never bored despite spending all their time on the farm and private places without other people.
They DID end the day starting to scythe out the connecting island, with its mass of trees, but it turned out that without an axe and pickaxe on hand, they couldn't get far into the overgrown areas. And they should have brought an axe; they had several plans for buildings to ask Robin for on Saturday.
Friday was a trip to the mines, which after two prior failed attempts (one out of time at day's end, one due to the monsters), did finally get them to floor 105. It was otherwise not terribly exciting.
Saturday, they realised they had a problem: They needed to pick up some seeds only Harvey at the clinic* carried, and Harvey wasn't ever behind the counter on a Saturday. So, reluctantly, they put off the plan to visit town to Sunday.
That meant a fishing day. Which didn't net them the pufferfish that Demetrius had just requested, but did net them some huge fish, including, to their shock, the marlin Willy had joked about the summer before. HUGE fish, that, and hard. But they'd definitely get something good for bringing it to him.
They'd hoped to get their axe down among the trees on the other island, but ran out of time at day's end, and settled for a few off on the empty left wing of their own island. Enough, they hoped, to not have to buy the materials from Robin for the same project they wanted Robin to build...
Sunday turned out rainy. Which was perfect, really; they could skip out on going south on the island to deal with the plants, and all the animals were indoors, in easy reach. With the help of a huge triple shot of caffeine and some spicy food, they were going fast; they actually had everyone petted, the cows milked, and all the items they'd intended to take to town with them. And with a warp totem into the mountains, they were are Robin's door so early she wasn't quite open, and they dug some clay for the pottery around the mountain, then went in. Apparently they had ONCE AGAIN missed out on a dresser. (She'd had one the day before, they learned)** and asked for:
- the broken-down old shed to be rebuilt into a new shed in Robin's signature style
- an upgraded coop with some duck enclosures (and a way to keep an osprey so it didn't consider the other fowl more appealing than the fish it traditionally caught)
- a new non-mini shipping bin to go by the crop field
Ultimately, they did have to pay for some of the wood on top of the buildings but they considered that only fair. They also handed Robin the hardwood she'd been waiting for.
All that sounded like a lot, but took less time than they had feared, so they delivered the junimos the gold quality parsnips from spring and the tilapia they kept forgetting even though they had to be at Harvey's before noon.
They made it to Harvey by 11:30 and traded tea leaves rather than cash for the calendulas and lavender. Fortunately, one thing they were NOT short of was tea leaves. They handed him a coffee because he looked tired, only to have him perk up far more than they' expected, and sip carefully, with detailed comments about the flavour.
A pause at Pierre's, where they bought a few other seeds and gave him his sashimi request, a pause to give Evelyn a leek for her request (And a leek directly to George, and Rowan's last leftover tulip from Spring so Evelyn would know she was appreciated personally, and not just for errand running). Over to Clint to finally go through 3/4 of their geodes (they'd left a bunch of the plainest geodes at home, and brought mostly the ones that felt cold to the touch or pulsed with heat, and the ones that sparkled.) This took a while, and involved several pauses to sell Clint the less rare specimens, and several trips to fill the museum. They really didn't feel like sorting the collection today in particular, but their halfhearted rainbows would soon need to be rethought with all these new rocks. They earned a crystalarium for their trouble, though, which was a nice unplanned bonus. And the mystery boxes they did at the very end left them with a pile of speed-gro, which would be handy for their fancy seeds.
A pause at the bulletin board; they'd have a week to find a prismatic jelly, it seemed.
After that their biggest priority was Marnie's, so after another pause to down more espresso to hurry up their tired legs, they went off to the ranch, got themselves some new goats and another set of large important flowers and gave her the pink cake they'd made for her, then realised that if they hurried, they could actually get to the fish shop for once...
The fish shop, it seemed, was full to the brim with crabs. So, a bit reluctantly, they helped out with the cleanup, before finally handing Willy the Marlin. He exclaimed at it, and gave them a nice reward on the spot.
Unfortunately, Gus came in as well. The chit chat between the two men as they gathered crabs was friendly, cheerful, the conversation between two comfortable older men who'd known each other a while. But they kept trying to include Rowan, who would have been content to listen quietly. It hit the point where they knew they had to head home.***
At least that meant it was early enough they could dig and plant the flowers they were hoping would turn giant on them, and even pause in the pottery, before bed.
* obviously from a mod. Harvey sells 3 plants with possible medicinal properties, one of which is heavily poisonous if mishandled.
** I actually tried to do the trip on Saturday and closed without saving and restarted the game when I realised Harvey wasn't ever at his desk on Saturdays. And on the Saturday trip, I had managed to finally buy a dresser. I decided I was NOT going to restart again at this further delay.
***Rowan's limit on speaking to people in town is 12. Gus, in the cutscene was #13 because they'd talked to Leah and Caroline as well.
