Eh.. idk.. but I have slime hutches more to keep slimes as pets than money reasons

Yes, if you have a slime egg press, you can turn 100 slime into one egg and always turn a profit. It's a nice source of passive income.

Are slime hutches really worth it?

Yeah I build one on every farm. They look nice, slimes are cute, it's interesting to see what colours they are gonna make while breeding (they can have more different colours compared to the ones you see in the mines) and occasionally selling the slime eggs from the presses adds a nice few thousand g.
Also it allows slayed slimes to drop their eggs. Its only a 1% chance but hey, tiger slime eggs do sell for 8000 g, so its always nice to have one drop. And they look cool

I'm having space problems for my farm rn so a slime hutch is far too distant. I also don't have the bus unlocked for the iridium lol.
