[Spoiler] Quest after 100 golden walnuts

Bravo! ๐Ÿ‘ As I said, after making it to 120, you can reset the mines to this setting at any time (and for any time you wish), so there are still plenty of opportunities to take your hoe and axe with you. ๐Ÿ™‚
But be prepared for VERY ANNOYING spiders at the lower levels! You better take a stack of staircases with you regardless.
And some ginger or Ginger Ale ... ๐Ÿ˜‰
Made it all the way down, but it was a close shave and I got there on the final day (accepted it with 5 days left). It was more difficult than expected. Those spiders were super annoying because they kept bouncing all over the place, were difficult to hit, and there were soooooooooo many of them! But what really did me in were those putrid ghosts and the hours-long debuff. One day I had to leave because I was at death's door and ofc couldn't heal. Looked up info on the wiki about them, and saw the thing about ginger, but sadly I only had two left in the fridge. And they keep spamming the debuff attack, so freedom doesn't necessarily last long. Was very happy when past those pests, and the rest of the way went easier. Didn't have any stairs, all were left in the desert, but did collect enough stone to make three stairs, which were used on a couple of the superlong circle floors, and one infestation floor. Other infestations I had to do, but it was okay in the end, at least we get a bunch of loot from it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

For when Qi's crops comes up again, what is the best way to get beans the first couple of days? Doing this with 14 days and zero experience isn't going to be possible. I read somewhere that fishing was a good way, but I didn't do that here because I (perhaps mistakenly) thought it would be too slow. Also, can the beans be destroyed by the Napalm ring? Or is that only stuff that is actually on the ground, and if it is being sucked in by magnetism, it will be okay?

These quests have been pretty difficult, but it's nice to have something else to do, because all that farming has gotten a tad stressful, and money is no concern any more. Think I've bought all the expensive things by now except the earth obelisk, and reckon I make several million per season. The 4 kegs + 1 jars sheds can't keep up tbh, and feels like I spend most hours of the day running in between all of them. My farm is this one, if anybody wants to take a look.

That's exactly what I do too! It's the second to none way to acquire staircases.
But it's worth to add that the desert trader sells staircases on sundays only! So prepare in time!
Do you actually use that many staircases? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

I have four crystalariums popping out jade (and one for diamonds), and think I had 380 stairs in a chest in the desert. Haven't been back to the Skull cavern in probably a full year, mind you, but with such a mass of jade production, do you go to the skull cavern and stair down every day or something? Otherwise you must have a full chest of the things ๐Ÿง

Edit: Oops, sorry for the double post. I'm used to forums automatically adding it to the last post, but seems like this one doesn't work like that.

The best ways to get beans the first couple of days (in my experience) are:
  1. Fishing with Treasure Hunter (tackle) - the Pirate profession is good to have, if not, you can change your profession at the statue in the sewer for as long as you need it - cause there's a good chance to get 2-4 beans in a treasure chest, but you will also often catch one in place of garbage or algae/seaweed
  2. Chopping trees / breaking rocks / cutting fibres - which might not really work on your farm, as it is cultivated so much
  3. Breaking Geodes / Artifact Troves / Golden Coconuts
  4. Mining and Combat, opening chests and crates
  5. Digging Artifact Spots (the wriggly worms)
  6. Shaking Palm trees on Ginger Island
I can well understand that your farm work is slowly getting too much for you - it would have been too much for me a long time ago! Sooo many beds and crops! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ How long did it take you to build it? It must have been a hell of a job - and to reseed everything every season on top of that!
Mine is the exact opposite, and yet I never get off the farm before 11 am. On the other hand, I have always enough trees to chop. ๐Ÿ˜

Actually no, I don't use them all. I have 18 crystalariums that normally make diamonds for sale, but when I need more staircases I change them for jade for a while. I get usually so much jade that I don't sell them all for staircases, but I like to have 200-300 staircases in stock in case I need them.

And again, no, I don't go to the skull caverns often nor do I do the relevant Qi Challenges very often. But if I do it happens that I use 60-70 stairs when time presses. This is mainly because it happens to me again and again that I unintentionally put two or three stairs down at once because I've clicked on the wrong spot to go down. This happens especially when I'm surrounded by lots of stones.

Thank you, this is an excellent list for later :)

Because I've essentially given up on this quest due to lack of time, I shall try fishing some days and see how that pans out. Already have the Pirate profession because I love to get treasure chests (and very nice for museum purposes), but haven't tried out the treasure hunter tackle yet, nor the relevant bait (but I see they cost iron bars to make, and I'm desperately short on that as it is). Thankfully I had planted a bunch of trees close to Marnie's ranch, and cutting those yielded 5 beans. Not much, but it was something, and had I had the full 28 days, or maybe even 21, it may have been enough with 11 combined that first day.

Nice natural look farm you have there btw. I've tried to make it somewhat natural looking too, and didn't want to pave the whole lot. That is why I used a lot of crystal path roads instead. They look quite nice in my opinion. The farm is in fall year 4 now, so it has taken quite a while. It was gradually expanded and looked like crap the first two years. The last big expansion was in winter year 3. Getting the whole thing prepped and seeded is a big ask on Spring 1 and such, impossible really, so it usually takes two days. The main annoyance is in the corners of the map, because the screen doesn't follow you around then, which makes it much more tricky to fertilise + plant seeds in a systematic fashion. Also sort of regret using so many different fish for the fish ponds, because all the roe + assorted 'loot' take up many inventory spaces, and arguably the main time waster is inventory space filling up. I have a chest by the door in each shed, and often have to temporarily store stuff there for when refilling kegs + jars. And sooooo much running back and forth between various shipping bins, sheds, animals and crop fields. And ofc I always forget something, particularly when plants need re-seeding. Oh, I need seeds, damnit is Pierre still open? Damn, where is the water can? and the hoe? This didn't get fertilised for some reason, the crops are off...

First order of business each day is going to the computer right next to the bed, and when it says 400 ready crops and such.... ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

With the Pirate profession and the Treasure Hunter tackle there's actually little need to additionally use Magnet bait.
As to the iron bars - you know that you can make them from 3 copper bars each, don't you?
5 beans is something. I usually brought home an average of 10 per day.

Thanks for the compliment! I too like crystal paths very much.
Every farm looks like crap the first 2 years, I suppose. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Only 2 days for sowing?!! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ That's what I need for my miniature crop-and-flower-beds! But I don't buy at Pierre's in a long time. I always try to take my time on the two last days of the season to make seeds (I have 6 seed makers) for the next one, so I can start right away on the first of season after my forenoon round.

Don't you carry your tools with you all the time? I do - except for the watering can - so I never have to look for them. I keep the watering can in a Junimo chest (they are fantastic for storing all you need in mines, caverns and dungeons - bombs, boots and the like), so I cannot forget it anymore when I dive into the Volcano dungeon - at the same time having it at hand on the farm.

I think the computer is superfluous once you have Junimo huts. I use it extremely rarely, only when I want to know how much hay is left in the silos.

I know about that recipe, but I'm desperately short on copper bars too, and that's after buying a lot of copper, iron and coal from Clint. Back when I still frequented the skull cavern, I actually went there several times just hunting for copper ores. It was a freaky experience, ignoring stairs and even iridium in favour of lousy copper. Making all those kegs took a lot of resources, and I've also made many bobbers, because I love having that extra leeway for difficult fish. Catching stingrays and super cucumbers for example without bobbers on the Island has been a real challenge! As for tools, I usually carry them around, but didn't until Ginger Island, where I suddenly needed the watering can again. Even the blasted copper pan that hadn't been used at all (but that one is stuck in a chest again). But sometimes I leave tools in a chest, like when I was trying to get to level 10 in the Volcano. Then I wake up next morning to do the chores, and suddenly notice I'm missing almost all tools. Cue much running and panting ๐Ÿ˜…

Only have two seeders and have only used them to make ancient fruit seeds for the greenhouse, and strawberry seeds when I forgot to buy them one year at the festival.

Do you infer that Junimo chests work differently than normal chests? Haven't used those yet, but think I saw it in the Qi store on the island. Also kinda regret that the farm design wasn't set up for using Junimo huts better. I planned it out with iridium sprinklers in mind, and wanted to avoid the typical 3x3 pattern to have the farm look a bit less square and diagonal. So right now it's not that easy to transition over to using Junimo huts for all the crops. But it's still a great time saver to have them down in the bottom left corner.

I like the computer for checking when the greenhouse is ready. It used to be in two batches, but I forgot to pick up the one half enough days, so now it has all lined up. Sadly that isn't the case for all the sheds, which makes the whole operation more stressful. But when I go in and see e.g. 40 ready bottles or jars, I can't just leave them there when there are probably thousands of fruits and veggies in various chests. If I could get it all lined up like probably everybody else are doing, I'd just have to worry about the sheds one day a week, instead of 7.

Edit: Since we are on the topic of inventory usage and tools, how does it look for you guys?

Admittedly I have more geode types here than I usually do, but after buying the Horse whistle for the 50 coins earned by the danger in the depths quest, practically half of the inventory is taken up by "permanent" slots, which doesn't leave a lot for mining trips and suchlike. Frequently need to toss sap, slimes and other loot in the bin to make room for the odd emerald or whatever that drops.

This is my current inventory. You can ignore a few things like jade, mahogany and such, but otherwise all this stuff is there always.

Also, I didn't know that the Big Slimes could spawn with hearts in them, that's really cool! Does anyone know how frequently they appear? Is it similar to Galaxy Souls, closer to Pink Cakes, or much more common?
Pink cakes are 1%.
When in dangerous Mode:
Qi Gems are 10%
Galaxy Souls are 0.45%

When doing the hungry challenge:
Hearts are 50%

Although the numbers were far off, in real terms it was kinda close. Managed to ship 252 fruits, so had I been able to get them through one more cycle, it may have been enough. 14 days was too short, but I can see how it's possible in 16-17.

1st of Winter and I hoped it would pop up again, but sadly it didn't. Grange thing again, with the 100s of colours. Or shipping 4 prismatic shards. Seriously dude, if I'm lucky enough to get 4 prismatic shards in a month, I sure as hell won't ship that to you for free ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

...Huh. Okay, well, I said I didn't always notice when there were hearts. Apparently I was *really* bad at noticing when there were hearts.
In my defence, I didn't realize the non-opaque ones could have hearts until halfway through. Okay, that's a pretty bad defence.

Hoped the Qi Crop quest would show up during winter. No go on the 1st, nor on the 8th. However, on the 15th it shows up again, which just like last time, will leave me with just two weeks to complete the task. A very big ask.

To stand a chance, figured there was no way around going all in. Have just spent about a real-time hour cracking geodes.... Had a little over 450 Omni geodes. After 200, only 20 lousy beans to show for it ๐Ÿ˜ข Thankfully pace picked up after that, and the beans overtook iridium ore. After cracking every single one (and selling to Clint on full inventory), this was the result:

Screenshot from 2022-07-21 19-01-16.png

Getting two prismatic shards was admittedly a decent bonus, but I'm a little disappointed at 74 beans. Had honestly hoped for around 100. During the last failed attempt, I cracked up around 45-50 non-omni geodes, and got 12 beans out of it.

Starting with that many should still leave me in good stead, though, and hopefully it's possible to complete the task this time. 100 Qi gems is a good return, but 500 fruits in only 14 days is hard.

Means the rainbow hat in the Desert is a no-go now, but I rather like this blue one anyway ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Edit: Went fishing too, with treasure hunter tackle and bait. Had lousy luck with beans in the chests, despite pulling up probably 15 (the wiki says there is a 48% chance), but with 5 from a wormspot too, I got 99 beans in the ground on day 1.

Going for copper to the Skull Cavern?? Why don't you just go to the local mines, levels 5-29? You'll usually find much more copper ores there than elsewhere - plus it's a faster and easier way to get them. I like doing all of Clint's quests for umpteen copper ores if possible, so I even get some coin on top of all the copper ores.

They do! What you put in there will be accessible from all of these chests. I bought four of them at Qi's, installing one on the farm, one in the local mines, one in the Skull Cavern and one outside of the Volcano. They have 9 slots each only, but for me it is sufficient. I'm keeping there bombs in three sizes, two hammers, one pair of boots, one helmet, my watering can, and a rabbit foot (because I surmise that it brings a little additional luck - I can be wrong).
Since then, it has never happened again that I forgot my tools somewhere. I have also made it a habit to put a normal chest everywhere as early as possible in the game, in which I store everything I don't need in the mine.

What do you have in all of those many sheds - machines? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ And I already thought I had a lot of machines ... LOL

Basically, I carry the same things in my inventory with me as you do: hoe, axe, scythe, pickaxe, fishing rod, sword, pan, return sceptre, horse flute, and from time to time additional bait and/or a spare bobber. Generally, there's always enough space in my inventory, and when I go mining, I leave the tools in the chest outside - except for pickaxe and sword.
Nevertheless, it also happens to me from time to time - especially deep inside the Skull Cavern - that I have to throw an item or two into the garbage bin because there is not enough space left. But that is rather rare.

Tried going to the regular mine for it many times, but got frustrated by the often complete lack of copper nodes on floor after floor. One time I kept going back to floor 20-21 over and over and over again, and it would only have 0-1 copper nodes almost always. Perhaps not more copper in the Skull cavern, but I found it more fun, and there is a decent chance of getting other good materials.

The Junimo chests sound very useful indeed, tho I wish they had more than 9 slots. I shall try them out later.

As for the sheds, yeah they are full of mostly kegs. Four sheds have kegs, and one has jars. Another (regular size) shed has a few machines, but it's far from full. Just wanted to put them inside and get it out of the way.

About the Qi's Crop quest again. I completed it! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Could have shaved one day off had I shipped half of the last lot that went through the seed maker, but I wanted to play it safe and not risk getting just short. Therefore the task was completed in 11 days instead of 10. Ended up shipping 595 fruits. Pleased about fulfilling the challenge given the 14 day deadline :)

Qi's crop quest.png

Going though 450-ish geodes was an ordeal, but without that excellent start it most likely wouldn't have been possible within 14 days. Gotta say I have great doubts about the info on the wiki about 48% chance to get beans in treasure chests though. Over three days I caught 35-40 chests, and my numbers were ~25% combined. Could have been extremely unlucky ofc (despite using Spicy Eel), but it's a decent amount of tries so seems odd numbers would be that far off the expected return.

Excuse me if I blather on here, nice with new stuff to do I guess ๐Ÿ˜Š

How do people prefer to do Qi's Cuisine quest? It's the one for shipping produced dishes worth 100,000g.

Seems like there are a few options in practice:
  • Bean hotpot: Need 2000 green beans
  • Bread: Need almost 1700 wheat flour (buy it)
  • Cranberry sauce: Cranberries add up quickly, but you must probably buy the sugar
  • Espresso: Make or buy a lot of coffee, then process it
  • Ginger ale: Similar to Cranberry sauce, must buy sugar, but getting that much ginger may not be feasible
  • Glazed yams: Need sugar and yams
  • Hashbrowns: Need oil and potatoes. Did you save a cellar or two of potatoes?
  • Poi: Only need taro roots, but you need a lot of it (1000 pieces)
  • Sashimi: Do you have obscene amounts of cheap fish laying about for some reason?
  • Spaghetti: Same deal as with some others. Here it is tomaoes + wheat flour
  • Tortilla: Corn only, but you do need 2000 corns.
Quite a bit to choose from, and we can of course combine different dishes to add up to 100,000g.

In my case, probably have 1000 coffees in different chests, and several thousand cranberries, so those are the easiest options. Coffee costs nothing since I have it anyway, but not sure I want to get rid of that much (hoarder's syndrome). It sure is nice for everyday use, and is essential for the Skull cavern. For cranberry sauce I'd need to buy a lot of sugar (or produce a lot of beet on Ginger Island I suppose).

Yay for you!!! ๐Ÿฅณ

I noticed that if you do a quest for the first time - be it Qi's or otherwise - it appears to be terribly hard to do, but do it a second time, and it appears to be a piece of cake. When I did Qi's Cuisine the first time, I was so stressed and exhausted afterwards that I had to take several days off from the game. ๐Ÿ˜„

That's VERY strange. I pretty much never had a problem having Clint's quest for 35/40/45 copper ores done within one day.
Sure the Skull Cavern is more fun.

I would say, the best way to do it depends on what you have in stock.
When I did it the second time, I processed all my coffee. Afterwards I realised that I had used up all my Qi Seasoning in the process - just because it was in the fridge. I didn't know that this seasoning is automatically added during cooking if it is in the fridge or inventory.
But this way I had already 60,000 g covered.
For the rest, I made as many Fish Tacos as I could afford, some other stuff, and a couple of Ginger Ales.
The whole quest took me just a few hours.

As to the coffee - I hardly ever use it. In the Skull Cavern, I always have a whole stack of Fried Eel with me, which is a frequent loot.

Congrats!

For Qi's Cuisine I normally just buy the flour and make bread (and just deal with losing the money), saves me from using up any of the ingredients I've hoarded. :P

If you didn't know, you can use both coffee and spicy eel, food buffs and drink buffs don't cancel each other out.
