Korean Typo/Display Text Errors

This post summarizes obvious issues in Korean text based on the previous thread, reviewing the game code, and changes in the upcoming Stardew Valley 1.6. Feel free to mention any other issues in new posts below.

(Issues in purple affect most or all languages.)

Pre-existing issues
Buildings:
  • In Strings/Buildings, missing translations for Paint_Region_Building and Paint_Region_Trim (building paint menu region names).
Items:
  • In Data/BigCraftablesInformation, the description for item #165 (Auto-Grabber) is outdated. The English text was changed in 1.4 to say "must be placed inside a coop or barn" instead of "works for cows, sheep and goats" (e.g. it also works for rabbits now).
  • In Strings/Shirts, missing translations for IslandBikini_*.
NPCs:
  • In Characters/Dialogue/*, missing MovieInvitation translation for Evelyn, George, Kent, Linus, Pam, Pierre, Robin, Willy, and Wizard.
  • In Characters/Dialogue/Pierre, the Mon4 translation is missing the "Hi, @" part.
  • In Strings/Characters, missing translations for MovieInvite_Spouse_*.
Secret notes:
  • In Data/SecretNotes, the translation for entry #1009 is missing the newer enchantments.
Other:
  • In Strings/credits, missing translations for link text at the bottom.
  • In Strings/EnchantmentNames, missing translation for Starburst.
  • In Strings/StringsFromCSFiles, missing translations for:
    • Utility.cs.5244 ("Programming");
    • Utility.cs.5245 ("Art, Music");
    • Utility.cs.5246 ("Sound Effects, Writing");
    • Utility.cs.5248 ("Special Thanks");
    • Utility.cs.5253 ("Trader Joe's Organic Hummus");
    • TitleScreenMenu.cs.11785 ("by ConcernedApe").
  • In Strings/UI, missing translation for DisplayAdjustmentText ("Press up/down to adjust the screen size to fit your display").

New in Stardew Valley 1.6
Animals:
  • In Strings/StringsFromCSFiles, missing translation for PurchaseAnimalsMenu.ChooseLocation (used when buying animals if you have animal buildings in multiple locations).
Buildings:
  • In Strings/Buildings:
    • Missing translation for BuildingSkinMenu_ChooseAppearance (used when choosing a building skin).
    • Missing translation for Construction_ChooseLocation (used in the carpenter menu when multiple locations allow buildings).
Items:
  • In Data/BigCraftablesInformation, missing translations for item #221 (Item Pedestal).
  • In Data/ObjectInformation:
    • Missing translations for all items with category Litter -999.
    • Missing translations for item #742 (Haley's Lost Bracelet).
  • In Strings/Objects, missing translation for:
    • CactusSeedsOutside.
  • In Strings/Shirts, shirts with male/female variants have been split into separate items, with an (M) or (F) suffix in the name. These should be translated if needed.
  • In Strings/StringsFromCSFiles, missing translations for:
    • FarmComputer_Intro_* (the title shown in the Farm Computer summary);
    • Attack_Miss (short text shown near monster when an attack misses).
NPCs:
  • In Strings/Characters:
    • Review the Relative_* translations (which were based on the old Data/NPCDispositions).
Other:
  • In Strings/Locations, missing translation for Backwoods_MonsterGrave.
  • In Strings/UI, missing translations for...
    • AGO_LegacyRandomization and AGO_LegacyRandomization_Tooltip (shown in advanced game options UI).
    • NextPage and PreviousPage (used when paginating the location choices when multiple locations allow buildings).
    • Carpenter_ChangeAppearance (button text to change the player skin, shown in the carpenter menu & building paint menu).
    • Item_CantBeUsedHere (shown when rain totem is used in a disallowed location context (like the desert), and may be reused in the future).
  • Strings/WorldMap (new asset)

Here are previous user reports that still apply in Stardew Valley 1.5.6 and 1.6-alpha (and aren't covered above). Note that it's up the translators to decide whether reports are correct.
1. translation of "wool"
- status quo : "양털"
- should be changed to : "털"

"양털" literally means "Sheep fur". ("양" means "sheep", "털" means "fur")

This is little awkward, since wool can be obtained both from a sheep and a rabbit.
I think it would be more natural if "wool" is translated as "털".

(If the translation of the item name is changed, the translation of the item description also should be changed to "부드럽고 푹신푹신한 털." )

2. translation of the description of "crystal path"
- status quo : "톡 쏘는 향과 맛이 나고, 과즙이 많습니다"
- should be changed to : "바닥을 장식하거나 길을 만들 수 있습니다"

The English description of "crystal path" is "Place on the ground to create paths or to spruce up your floors."
The Korean description of "crystal path"(수정 길) is something different. It says "톡 쏘는 향과 맛이 나고, 과즙이 많습니다", meaning "It has pungent smell and flavor, and it is juicy". This text describes crystal path as a kind of fruit..!
This should be translated as other path descriptions, which is "바닥을 장식하거나 길을 만들 수 있습니다."(Place on the ground to create paths or to spruce up your floors.)

3. translation of the description of "auto-grabber"
- status quo : "매일 아침마다 자동으로 가축들의 생산품을 자동으로 채집합니다. 소, 양, 염소로부터 채집이 가능합니다"
- should be changed to : "매일 아침마다 자동으로 가축들의 생산품을 자동으로 채집합니다. 닭장이나 외양간 내부에 설치해야 합니다"

The Korean description of "auto-grabber"(자동채집기) is "매일 아침마다 자동으로 가축들의 생산품을 자동으로 채집합니다. 소, 양, 염소로부터 채집이 가능합니다".
The translation of this text is "Automatically harvests from your animals each morning. Can be used for cows, sheep and goats."
The sentence in bold face is different from the English description, which is "Must be placed inside a coop or barn."
The Korean description misleads users to think that auto-grabbers can be used only for barns.
It should be changed to match the English description.
"매일 아침마다 자동으로 가축들의 생산품을 자동으로 채집합니다. 닭장이나 외양간 내부에 설치해야 합니다."

4. Festival of Ice Notice
- status quo : "오전 9시에서 오주 2시 사이에 방문해주게"
- should be changed to : "오전 9시에서 오후 2시 사이에 방문해주게"

There is a typo at the end of Festival of Ice Notice. 2 PM should be translated as "오후 2시", not "오주 2시".

Shane's 6+ heart quote “Buh... Where's the Joja Cola?” is mistranslated as "버... 조자 콜라 어딨지?" (I guess it's a typo)
Should be "... 조자 콜라 어딨지?"
there is a mistranslate advanced option in korean. In UI file, "Spawn monsters on the farm" is mistranslated "마을에서 몬스터 등장". It may change from "마을" to "농장".

and I saw "Unmilled rice" that translated "가공되지 않은 쌀". "Unmilled rice" is called "벼" in korea, so I think "벼" is more suitable translate.

Event.cs.1527, "도시자님께서 배고 고프신 것 같네."
When Luau, ask Lewis's answer is mistranslated, to "도지사님께서 배가"

I lost screenshot, sorry.
when Gunther give the sewer key event, first sentence's word is missing.
"too early" korean, "너무 일찍", however the text is "무 일찍"

All translation issues reported up to this point should be fixed in the upcoming Stardew Valley 1.6.9. Feel free to report any issues which still happen when you get the update. Thanks for reporting them (and thanks to the Korean translator for fixing them)!

I first reported this issue back in January 2023, and again sometime this year, so I hope this display issue gets fixed soon 🥲🥲 I will just copy and paste what I reported for the second time, and please let me know if you guys need more info! Thank you so much!

Type of phone/platform: Mobile / Android / Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 (but this issue still showed up on my previous phone, Samsung Galaxy S 8)


Details of your issue: The Korean text and/or the spacing between the lines is too big, so the dialogue gets cut off in the beginning. I attached three screenshots.

The first one is the new fishing channel text box; the second one is the 'perfection' tracker in Mr. Qi's secret room; and the last one is the telephone text box.

I don't think the issue pertains to a specific event/situation or the location of each dialogue, but more on the length or scaling of a dialogue. Could you guys look into maybe decreasing the spacing between the lines or changing the scaling?

On the day of your issue, did you load your game through the Load Game menu (you wake up in the bed)? Or was it an "emergency load" (i.e. one where you start mid-day wherever you left off)? Unfortunately, the issue happens all the time. I did try to load the game both ways, and the issue showed up on both times.


Any other info that might be relevant: This issue showed up since the 1.5.6.37 update. My game is up-to-date with the 1.5.6.52 update.

I am having the same issue. I can't make any choices throughout the game. I hope this issue that has been left unattended for a year is fixed soon.
