I want to hear your most controversial Opinion about Stardew!

Bombs for BOOM, also grabbing lotsa shiny things
Better than bombs...MEGABOMBS, I completed it with a stack of 100 of them that my friend sells :dwarf:, with 10 Fruit Salads, no staircases. Just bombing everything, ignoring the monsters and eating when I almost die.
And just to post something about the thread; staircases are not worthy, a waste of space in the world, very expensive and take away from the meaning of cave exploration, but I suppose they are useful if you are not interested in cave exploration and are rich on stones.

Oh I am very much a terrible fighter but Skull Cavern can still be fun for the general looting of Treasure Rooms and random drops. How I make Skull Cavern fun, a short guide for terrible fighters:

High Luck day
Lucky Lunch or
Magic Rock Candy for more Luck and evasive Speed
Staircases for "they who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day also run away on the next Skull Cavern Level." Famous SDV quote, probably
Bombs for BOOM, also grabbing lotsa shiny things
Galaxy Sword or better to swing about wildly for those who forget the crossed out bits above. Bonus: the wind your uncontrolled flailing creates may occasionally blow a monster farther away
:goldstar:
Gold Star Cheez for healing (or your fave food)
Iridium Pickaxe for the few things you'll need to pick

You can always use earlier game or lower quality options like a lower Luck day, Spicy Eel and Coffee, Cherry Bombs, Lava Katana (maybe Dark Sword or Obsidian Edge), Blue- Cran Blackberries or Salad, or Gold Pickaxe, but only as long as you have enough extra Stairs to spam down to save your tasty kneecaps.

My 2 best suggestions are:
• Always have Stairs ready and just slap 'em down and escape if you're even vaguely questioning how infested a floor is
• Always have Food ready to eat, eat at no less than 3/4 health if you're using Salad or Berries, or 1/2 health with anything better like Cheez.

Food is cheap. Your life is not.
I will also add there is little penalty for “death” in Stardew. You never die. You loose some few thousand maybe gold maybe less or your favorite sword or the loot you collected, but you don’t have to save. Reset that day and let the fun restart without having lost a thing and that will give you lots of SC practice if nothing else and if after 5 or 10 or 20 tries you still don’t fare well, just wait a little farther into the game with more high quality goods, better sword/tools, or just keep practicing after a save you don’t loose much and try another day. Practice makes perfect!

Also if you have reached ginger island forge or have level 10 in each skill and are on mastery cave I can’t stress getting combat first. The mini forge enchantments on your sword (crusader and another with bug killer) prove invaluable. Also the fairy box trinket heals, quivers help kill enemies and keep others pushed at slight distance. Frogs still loot but they can be great for those not great with combat.

Oh, I never go without bombs. I don't use staircases as much as Lew Zealand because I often find I get killed while placing them (or trying to eat!) but not because I think they're wrong - I bring a few to escape tight spots - mostly because I am awful at tracking my damage bar while trying to focus on the serpents flying through the air at me, so I'm trying to do both food and stairs at times when if I misclick I die...

Also yeah, currently only have a Dark Sword, and I remember the Galaxy sword making a big difference. I haven't gone far enough in 1.6 to get trinkets yet, though I know about them.

I made it to level 100 twice. Once for real, albeit with a fair number of stairs, enough that Qi commented on it, and once without, but with an elevator mod that, as the name suggests, adds an elevator that acts the same as the one in the regular mines. (I'm not using that one with current farmer, though I liked it.)

As for the "little penalty for death", having lost as many as 8 items, some of those items were really frustrating to have to lose, especially since Marlon only ever gives back ONE type (Since they'd all be dropped in the same spot, this implies either the monsters grabbed everything else of worth, or Marlon keeps a few things for himself...

Yes! I had this problem for a while and my strategy is:

Stairs in my hand as I go down a Level.
If I see anything green and flying, Stairs go down and I go down after them.

That's it. Avoidance at all costs. Health and Cheez come later on a calmer level with no Serpents, and I can usually get the Stairs and myself down before they reach my knees and I can tank the Health for the 1 or 2 that occasionally reach me.

That Marlon is always keeping my bestest stuff for himself. After I lost my very first Autopetter in an unfortunate incident in Skull Cavern, I stumbled into the Guild a few months later just before closing and found a suspiciously well-pet Gil passed out on his chair. No wonder that guy's so chill.

Thinking about it: you should buy the Lava Katana from the Adventurer's Guild for
25,000g if you possibly can. It's very noticeably better than the Dark Sword even if it costs the same as a Deluxe Barn upgrade!

I think the wiki is an awful resource and I rarely use it. Only if absolutely necessary, or for quick reference for something I already know and someone is asking about it. I think it takes away more than it gives back to the community
