Graveyard Farm

I think every farm is overwhelming at first when it's completely overgrown. Hilltop is rather rugged in terms of terrain and has a river that divides the land. So you don't have too many large contiguous areas of farmland, if that's important to you. The small quarry is useful for ore and coal if you don't want to go straight to the mines. I've set it up so that I have the fields on the strip in front of the farmhouse, and the large area next to the quarry is the pasture with the stables, because that's where there was the most grass and you don't need much fencing because the animals don't cross the small bridges. The rest is an orchard, a tappered forest, and one fish pond so far. I didn't build a shed, cause I started using the cellar for most of the machines.
Is a shed that much larger than a cabin to justify the price? Also did you decorate your shed?

Idk, since I haven't had a Cabin yet...

And no, I didn't decorate my sheds so far, I used them only for the machines. Actually, in my last two saves I didn't even build one, cause I use the cellar for them now. Undecorated 😁

I mean the cellar has a ton of space. You won't really need that many kegs unless your insane about money. I have about ten furnaces just sitting in my house since I don't have the cellar yet.

They're not that far apart cash per tile wise, it's more effort than anything, as you need another player to log on concurrently (or play with two characters at once), and go through a fair few days in order to upgrade it all the way through

(the second character also has to be online that whole time for the cabin to actually upgrade)

It would be nice to see this farm. Hilltop’s a tough layout and more examples would be good. This one sounds really workable.
Animals do cross bridges, which is why ET Betsy’s layout works, but if their building is far from the bridge and they have plenty of grass they won’t find the bridge.

I used a cabin as a shed for a while. The bed was a pain and I didn’t fake multiplayer to get rid of it. When I wanted more room I went with a shed and then upgraded.

Please have a look at Hilltop View Farm ☺
and you're right in case of bridge crossing animals, I used just gates for the bridges.

Looks good. I quickly abandoned farming in the area by the farmhouse. Too much of a hassle running up and down the stairs to fetch water before getting sprinklers.

I can understand that, this screenshot is from year 6... Usually I expand the fields when sprinklers are available. In the beginning watering is awful, it's such an energy guzzler.

Thanks! This is a really pretty farm. I like the Junimo picnic area on the right-side hill. And yeah, the bridge + gate combo is a nice efficient means of fencing.

Another reason for me to abandon farming next to the farmhouse was that I intended to put the coop and barn between the farmhouse and greenhouse, so I'd eventually need that space for grass. Didn't want to run too far to take care of the animals, whereas the crops mostly take care of themselves unless there's harvest/replanting.

Yes, that's a point, but for me it's kinda irl thing... Always imagine myself being that farmer and I couldn't stand that smell near the House, cause I know it irl. But don't get me wrong, I do love the animals and all that 😇😁

I know that smell too irl, and that there's not enough space on the farm to get it far enough from the farmhouse to avoid it. Then again, having a chest full of fish near the front door would not smell pretty either, but fortunately they don't rot in the game.

I know the chicken smell too but I put my coop somewhere to the side anyways.
