Did I choose the right partner?

I am on my first save and I married Abigail, she is very helpful, making food for me, and helping water my animals and crops. Alex, who is my partner in another save absolutely sucks IMO. He helps with nothing and gives no extra food or anything like that. Who is your favorite Partner/Roommate? I'm thinking of divorcing Alex for sure and want to know who to pursue next.

I married Abby on my first save too. She's great lmaoo but there isn't no right choice like Mango said. Each character has flaws.(Alex a jock and notverysmart. Harvey too smart and overprotective. Haley a bitch. Abigail way too gothic. Sam a manchild. Shane a stinky mean broke alcoholic loser. Elliot is too unemployed and way too much of a hobo living in a wooden cabin. Penny is basically Harvey but a mommy. Maru shocks people and wears overalls. Sebastian is a loner and is a jerk sometimes. Leah is like Elliot but female. You get the point.) The best part of Stardew is you can express yourself. No two players have the same save.

That seems to be classical low hearts behaviour. My Farmer married him three times so far and as long as he's a happy spouse, he gives breakfast almost every day. And helps with the Farm. He's my favourite so far, but I wouldn't complain about the others, as long as you keep them happy, everything ist good 😊

But as Mango Choo-Choo said, it's a game, there's no wrong or right, just preferences, the spouses are more or less the same after marriage, except for the gifts and the dialogues.

I mean there's no wrong or right that's the biggest selling point of a cozy relaxing game like Stardew. IDK why a lot of people stress about it.

CA has been on record, IIRC, as saying it was very important to him to keep the spouses mechanically equal so as to prevent any meta-logic developing around any particular spouse being the strategically "correct"/"best" option. This can be a bit bland and flattening to their personalities post-marriage but I totally get it and respect it. There is no "right" answer beyond whichever one you find the most fun (however you define that).

Abigail is one of the characters I first chose to marry in one of my earliest saves. I thought she was really nice and enjoyed her cutscenes and liked some of the gifts she gives (the bombs) as I was a massive penny-pincher when I first started playing and hated crafting them.

I will just say in general, most of the spouses are pretty equal, there isn't really a better spouse or worst spouse, and it's all up to personal choice and how you imagine the character, as a lot is left up to the imagination when it comes to details and their traits in the way you characterize them.

This too, all of the spouses have been kept pretty mechanically similar, the gifts they give aren't overwhelmingly useful, they all do chores about the farm, and none have big differences in how you can befriend them. The dating/marriage process is literally the same for all of them, too (except for krobus but c'mon he's a roommate).
