I think Cupid may have been an amorine, a servant of Amor. That was the Roman version.

The Greek god of love was Eros.

Been doing too many crosswords. When it's "god of love" at four letters, the third letter can always be filled in, but for the rest I need to find out one of the other letters.
I'm pretty sure Cupid is the same thing as Amor (both Roman), and Eros is the Greek version. The figures you occasionally see in architecture are putti or amorini, Cupid's (Amor's) diminutive servants.
