Ummmm. What makes you say that it has a " large Queer fanbase "?
Maybe Concerned Ape can just take out the entire " romancing " Aspect, and have it so that everyone is referred to by NAME.
Jesus Flipping Chr*st. It'a a GAME. Atop trying to make everything an echo chamber of your beliefs.
And if ya wanna get technical, 2 genders, 3 s3xualities. Male / Female. Gay, Bi, Straight. Everything else is just another name for those!
Want people to stop steroetyping. Try it. Males can like girly things, females can like manly things. Welcome to Reality
Okay, this is the last interaction, then I’m leaving this dead. Adressing each paragraph:
1) While I do recognise that my numbers are a little skewed because fandoms as a whole are inherently more queer (because queer people generally interact with fandoms more), creators, artists and players across all social media who are a part of this fan base tend to be queer or at least not homophobic/transphobic.
2) I genuinely have no idea what you mean by the first part. Also referring to someone only by their name would be a case of gender neutral language, yes! But, it would also be maybe a little unnatural, hence the suggestion of an added gender with altered dialogue.
3) Identity is not a belief. That’s why it’s called an identity and not a belief. If I were to say, for example: “I think that Stardew Valley should scrap Yoba and worship [some irl religion] because I think that’s right” that would be an attempt of imprinting personal beliefs. That is not at all what’s going on here. Also, by your logic, Stardew is already imprinting
their personal beliefs by making two gender option. But still, not a belief.
4) This is just… so wrong. There aren’t two sexes, let alone genders. Intersex people exist, while only 1% of population (could be higher, skewed data), that is still 80 million people who do not biologically fit into either category. Same goes with gender, which is a social construct. So many ancient cultures recognised three or more genders (f.e. Two-spirit). What we think of when we say Man or Woman is just a set of characteristics and values we made up, and they change over time.
5) This whole conversation is about adding a gender neutral option to the game. You can literally wear a dress as a male farmer what do you mean “stereotyping”. Also I think lots of gender
conforming people would also use this option, cause they want to have freedom over what to wear and how to be addressed. This literally doesn’t have to have anything to do with identity.
Try to educate yourself next time before posting random hate at someone, it makes for a more rational and pleasant conversation overall. <3
