I was trying to catch the legend on a rainy day in spring, fishing after getting a cork bobber and deluxe bait, and even eating a seafoam pudding, cast my line out, and every bite was a carp, a chub, largemouth bass, or some ridiculous lake fish. Buh. I want to catch the legend, not a ridiculous carp

Yes, this is the unfortunate nature of things. The last few times I tried for the Legend, he was only awake for midnight snacks. No it's not coded that way but that's sure how it went when I tried earlier in the day and got nothing after 6 hours. But after midnight he bit 3 times. Obviously I ended up handing over my best bait the first two times because I have a free food reputation among the fish in town which reaches even as far as the Mountain Lake. However the third time was the charm.

And it wasn't the first time this happened, at this point when stalking the Legend or Legend II I simply don't even try until the afternoon (yes I'm a hopeless dreamer for trying even that early). Here's a story about one of those times (skip the top bit if you want to avoid the preamble, the fish story starts before the screencaps):

As Lew said, the 10% chance for it to bite can really 'bite' you in the back (no I'm not ashamed) if you're even a little unlucky.

Another possibility beyond just fishing all day could be to just reset the day if you don't catch it in X casts, it seems like you had most of the preparations ready and the legend can bite as early as 6 am so if you don't want to waste time/buffs/resources then reset whenever your buff runs out if you didn't catch it and try the day again.

Are you sure you have 10 lvl in fishing? Its required if you want to hook it (Its my first post here so sorry if I typed anything wrong :PP )

Rain totems! And there is always next year. I'm in year 4 and the Legend is the last fish I need to catch for Master Angler. (I probably could have done it this past spring, but I didn't feel like it. And there is no punishment for being lazy.)

ughhhhhhh I got the crafting recipe in the middle of summer for rain totems and now I have to wait....

It sounds like you’re doing everything right — cork bobber, deluxe bait, and even Seafoam Pudding! The issue might be where and when you’re casting your line.

To catch The Legend, make sure you’re:

• Fishing in the mountain lake (near the log by the big rock, top left area).
• It must be spring and raining.
• You need fishing level 10.
• Try to cast as far out as possible (maximum distance helps).

If you’re still only getting carp and chub, move a few tiles closer to the big log on the left edge of the lake — that’s the exact legendary spot. Keep trying; the bite rate can be low, but once The Legend appears, you’ll know it immediately from how fast the bar moves!

yep I did all of the things you mentioned, I guess I'll have to keep trying when spring comes and not get too distracted with mayonnaise.

The place I'm using for fishing for Legend and Legend II is between the fence and the bridge to the first island. Never had reason to pick another spot and the quickest to get to after using a mountain totem.
