Lots of interesting replies to this thread, but I have one other question regards fishing: what do you use? Controller or mouse and keyboard? I use an Xbox controller and have found fishing to be generally quite easy using that.
Why do so many people hate fishing?

I play on a phone, never tried anything else, so can't compare. Fishing isn't hard, but I think that comes from the fact that I've been playing for a while and eventually learned, not the device.

Mouse and Keyboard it is for me - only play on PC. Tried it once on my Mobile Phone, but the fishing mini game is much too small there, I can't control it, just annoying.

On mobile it depends on how zoomed-out you are. If you are close-up, the fishing game can be too big to fit all of it on the screen, which has its own problems.

Fishing was the bane of Farmer Bobbi's existence when she first came to the Valley as her dexterity was usually limited to:
• hitting the floor close to 100% of the time when rolling out of bed
• running into door frames when trying to go through them
• stubbing her toes on hidden stones and branches on her cluttered farm
• tripping over unseen farm Weeds in the middle of the dark night
• failing to maneuver her horse between single vertical spaces before realizing her butt was part of the calculus too
Fishing was torture early on until she found out how not to overshoot everything, which took forever. There's a real learning curve to those types of simulated physics minigames and Bobbi is not a pro at those things. Maybe if she'd played more Geometry Dash it would have seemed more natural but that didn't happen. And just try that on a different device than you're used to! Moving from mouse to phone/tablet and then to controller makes the latency of your taps different for each one!
But perseverance and the need to restore the Community Center wins out for most farmers and Bobbi was no exception. Even though she whined and pouted and generally made enough of a fuss that Emily and Haley would look out of their window at the disheveled, damp farmer fighting with a tangled line on the banks of the town river next to an empty cooler and laugh in a rare sisterly moment. Bobbi was often a force for good in the community like this from no actions of her own other than serving as the example of what not to do.
However as fishing eventually became more natural and even a casual occurrence, Bobbi found that her time was better spent lazing under the shady tree on the south side of Willow Lane looking like she was fishing but really snoozing in the warm late summer afternoons. It was during one of these sessions that a mildly concerned Emily crossed the street to stand above our dozing farmer, gazing over the calm river waters to inquire offhandedly what happens to the fish once they're caught.
Bobbi awoke from her dreamy nap to see a mermaid clothed in flowing red having replaced much of her view of the tranquil river with something rather well-suited to increase her heart rate. Regaining her breath, she responded with a casual, "Oh I'm just feeding them their favorite food." She reeled in the duckie bobber and showed it to Emily. "See? No hook, just bait. I'm feeding them because they're my outside pets and you don't need to change the litter box for those!"
Emily giggled with a warm smile. This has all been planned well in advance by Farmer Bobbi and she even said the words mostly how she'd practiced them. There are more things to catch while fishing than those living under the waves.

Both! I used to just use my keyboard and mouse/trackpad, and sometimes still do, but I use a controller more now because my wrist filed a complaint

At the moment "Fishing made easy suite", there are others, but most just change the difficulty with a percentage.

For me I don't hate it. I didn't like it when I first started because I didn't understand the mechanics. Now it's super duper easy (in some cases)

Mouse and keyboard and tapping on the phone both. The former is easier but it's the same principle.

Checked it out. It looks like a good example of the very reasons why i don't enjoy modding. Game breaking all bc a player "doesn't like something/wants something". If a game is unfair or too hard, or something like that I get it, but aside from fish being put into the wrong biomes there is practically nothing wrong with fishing. This mod seems to just allow you to set settings for anything for whatever reason. Cool that it exists. Not my cuppa. Won't ever be recommending it to anyone tho. It has no interest in game balance.

I would say fishing is good for what it is, the only obnoxious thing tends to be that sometimes it tends to be rather precise. On mobile it’s especially annoying when you have touchscreen and it ends to have wonky control. It’s especially noticeable with the harder fish like legendary fish.

Love the fishing mechanic in the game. I'm probably one of the few but I love that it gets harder as the rarity of fish goes up. Makes it incredibly satisfying when you catch that one fish you've been trying to catch for ages to finish out the collection.

I hated fishing at first bc I found the minigame hard, but I got a better fishing rod and bait and it's so much easier I don't mind doing it anymore :3

Like I said before, I simply cannot relate because I don't have issues on mobile, keyboard/mouse, or gamepad when it comes to fishing. To each their own i suppose.
Don't forget to eat a fishy meal! There's several different great fishing recipes. I prefer Dish 'o the Sea, because of the ease of ingredients (i'm not building my farm around a +1 to fishing), but also many good crabpot-based cooking recipes give you solid buffs as well. And there's always maple bars and the trout soup you can buy from Willy. I do the trout soup thing early on quite often. You can easily make that money back in one sitting, and you'll need at most 2 for one day's worth of fishing.
