I see him as a ladies man. I think he has a wife irl. Not sure his personality but I’m guessing someone adventurous like Abigail might be a good match. Or maybe Krobus? I mean our only reason to visit the sewer is to meet this gem of a shadow person so maybe Krobus was added in because Ape really liked the idea of his character, then made him able to be a roommate because he could see Krobus living with him and his wife irl 
I also see him as possibly way too busy tweaking the game to worry about a spouse each run through. The marriage dynamics have remained the same so probably just is a solo farmer to streamline ease of play to develop other aspects of the game. This could explain why marriage and family hasn’t gotten any true updates to the game for a couple of versions now.
