Dear Lord, she pushes George away once. Once! In order to help him. Was that clumsy? Yes. But it doesnt make her a bad person. Not even remotely. Can yall get over it please! It starts to get really annoying.
I'm not only talking about George. It's other little things I dislike about her personality. If it were a single isolated incident I could forgive her, but I just literally do not appreciate her character, the way I don't appreciate Alex (sorry Alex fans!).

That doesnt change the fact, that she is kind. She has certain expectations towards her partner, which is fine. But she is not cruel or mean in any way. I think what you criticize is that she is not submissive, like most of the other characters. She has expectations towards a relationship and stays largely independent when she starts dating the player. Two points about her that I really appreciate and which make her the best marriage candidate for me.

I disagree with your assumptions of myself and why I don't like penny. As written, most of the other characters are dynamic characters, best girl Emily being a notable exception because she doesn't really change much over the course of the game.

Penny, is a static character. She doesn't change. And actually, the way her character is written you are actually the dynamic character in Her story. I don't mind static characters, as is obvious with me liking Emily, but penny is a completely different story, no puntentions.

Do I hate penny like some do? No. I just want as much distance between her and I as possible. I'll build her house for half a mil, but honestly pam is just probably gonna trash that place too. I'll get the trash panda to clean up her yard too, but that's a thing that is between penny and pam. Honestly, penny could clean up the yard if she really wanted to, but I get that she has a lot of responsibility and obligations on her plate already. Not too much judgement there.

And while I dont think she is kind as much as she is nurturing. I feel like the story of penny is written in a lot of the little unspoken details, as ape is so good at doing. She has a lot of little actions that for me are red or orange flags. If you don't see them that's fine, but I really don't want to be dating some kind of a mother hen personality

Personally, I like Penny, but I never marry her because she seems a little bland. She's that basic sort of caring character that you see in any good story. I might marry her in one of my saves to see how she is in a relationship (and actually pay attention to her heart events lol) I feel bad for neglecting her all the time. She mostly just reminds me of myself though, with the trailer and the trashy house and the terrible mother. So maybe that's why I don't gravitate towards her.

That must be why I like Elliott so much, too. He is someone I want to be. An author, alone and away from the world, growing his little bonsai tree.

As I already wrote, I like the fact that she doesnt change her personality in order to please the player character. If that is what you are looking for in a partner, have at it. But that is not how a relationship works in my book.

And again, no matter how often you repeat that she is "not kind" or "a mother hen", it doesnt make it true. I dont know why she r6bs you the wrong way, but its getting a bit ridiculous at this point.

Others have done pretty good analyses of her, and I already stated points that you most likely can't see because you have an ideal of changing for someone else's sake, just to fit into their life, which is fine and all, but it can also be unhealthy for yourself. Not all the relationships are the same, and that's why all the singles in SDV are different. But just like how you dislike people who overly bash on penny, I dislike people who glorify her to be some kinda saint of the valley. I already said I don't actually hate her (I think), but I will never have my character marry her again. Hence the house building every time.

I pick a different one every time but that "every" includes only like 4.5 playthroughs so far so thats only about 4 and a half spouses. Roughly.

I rounded down.

:penny: Penny (Year 3) was first and least interesting after marriage but it was also a much earlier version of the game so she had none of the more recent dialog expansions. I should go back for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.
:abigail: Abigail (Year 4) was next because the Forum was fulla Abbystans at the time and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. She was good with better dialog but I chose the wrong farm map (Hilltop) and put the save down for a while. A couple IRL years or whatever. I came back later to change the farm map (to Standard) around the time I started writing and Abby is great for writing character expansions and addressing that supernatural Farm change.
:maru: Maru (Year 2) was my +0.5 and it's telling as I forgot to add her until writing the one below. Married her on a 4 Corners Farm in multiplayer but that MP died out so never got past maybe 1-2 weeks with her. I was the host so I should just continue the play in singleplayer to properly evaluate Maru.
:haley: Haley (Year 3) was next as some of the forum and Reddit was bashing on her at the time so I married her to be contrary. Which was the perfect choice as Haley is a great match for the Beach farm as well as being a kook, so she ended up being a great spouse and was also the one around when I started to write occasionally. It turns out she's pretty good to write for as her married dialog opens up a load of options.
:emily: Emily (Year 6), who I voted for here because she is my current and very much longest married spouse. I dunno what it is about her but she works so well as a spouse. She's very easy to write for (even though I don't do it much now) and seems to exude personality or at least does so with my imagination mixed in with game dialog.
