When do you like to start a new farm?

I seem to start a new farm when a major game update releases, with an exception:

v1.3 - Standard farm, married Penny, messy chaos natural Farm theme
v1.4 - Forest farm, married Maru, shared farm but my farming buddy quit in Year 2 so:
v1.4redux - Hilltop Farm, married Abigail, horrible farm. Used arcane magicks known only to the ancients (that I found in a cookbook!) to transform the farm to Standard farm map, Slime ranching theme.
v1.5 - Beach Farm, married Haley, Ostrich racetrack theme
v1.6 - Forest Farm, married Emily, Clothing and Gem Shop theme, longest play, 100% Perfection (lol never again!)

I had enough fun on the Abigail thru Emily farms that I wrote about them so the theme for all of those was farm stories, but I seem all tapped out for now with that.

I usually start a new farm whenever I have a challenge I want to complete. If an update drops or when I'm regularly playing, I'll just play on the two farms I have as 'main' farms on, as I like to pursue long-term goals instead of playing the earlygame loop.

Last time I played a new file was nearly a year ago, which kinda shows how little I start new farms, though I've also been really busy, I don't think I've played any game in a couple months due to taking a lot of fairly difficult courses right now.

I start new farm, with new version(s) update(s):

1.5 i first started playing the game, despite having bought it much earlier than this particular patch hit us.
1.6 i started Meadowlands and am stuck with it, ever since.
1.7 i am so going to try the new farm Concerned Ape spoiled us with, together with Sandy wife (at last!).

Do you always hit 100% before starting a new farm? When is the moment you decide, Hey, I wanna give it another go? Try a diff way?

*I have multiple farms going depending on my mood lol* Im looking to see how others decide.
Never, Im weird I have only played 1 SP farm for like 200 hours or so and than mp farms.

I start a new farm when I'm sort of done with the one I've been playing.
- Perfection
- Kids grown, crib removed and house decorated
- Own the three cat statues
- Own a return sceptre
By the time I've done all that, I'm usually bored with the farm and ready to try something new. With my first farm it was Year 7, but with the next few farms it tends to be somewhere in Year 5 that I get bored. I think it took longer with the first farm because 1.6 was very new to me (I had previously stopped playing around the time 1.4 came out).

My saves in 1.6 so far:
- Standard farm, female farmer, married to Harvey
- Riverland farm, female farmer, married to Sam - a full JoJa run
- Woodland farm, female farmer, married to Leah
- Hilltop farm, male farmer, married to Alex
- Wilderness farm, male farmer, married to Abigail
- Four Corners farm, female farmer, married to Emily - this is the one I'm currently playing

Yes! Hit one hundo and you will feel much more proud of yourself rather than feeling guilty that you left your ongoing farm. But if you're escaping a nasty NPC environment, leave as fast as you can! Also if you took the jojo rounte and everyone hates you then I don't blame them.
*Sorry, just hate joja like a lot :proud:*

When I lose or complete my current save file lol. I hate making new farms without completing one. It feels like I'm jumping between farms too fast without putting in any effort.

Apparently I decided to make a new farmer, because I ran into a combo of two mods that were perfect for a Hermit run; one is a beach farm variant with special access to the mines without "leaving" the farm, allowing for some expansion. The second was a mod which lets you upgrade your tools via a series of bundles (like the community centre) in a subcave found at the back of the normal farm cave, eliminating the need for Clint. (I did also allow for a variation on "Friends forever" so Rowan does make friends... very... slowly... instead of never getting anywhere at all because me making a farm without eventually growing tea would be impossible, and added a stamina rework which makes the early running-out-of-energy part worse to increase the challenge).

This was different enough from Mel and Sarah I felt like I could handle getting bored of Hermitage by switching farmers, rather than deleting someone.

The challenge is focused on finishing the Community Centre, though I left it open to extend past that if I find I'm enjoying it. That's the reason Rowan leaves the farm at all.

So these are the rules I set up for Rowan the Extremely Shy:
Rowan leaves the farm once a week, usually Saturdays, with these specific conditions:
- Saturdays the 6th and 20th they can go anywhere and do anything, though…
- If they talk to more than 12 people on either Saturday they MUST head back to the farm IMMEDIATELY, forget any tasks undone. This includes all human vendors, but not hatmouse, Krobus, or Dwarf
- Instead of Saturday the 13th, on Friday the 12th, they can go specifically to Cindersap Forest and its human-scarce locales (ie, the sewer and the Secret Woods once opened) but they can talk to a maximum of *4* human people before they have to flee home. This allows for river fishing, the travelling cart (the reason for the day-of-week change!), and possibly a trip to Marnie's shop if they're feeling very brave.
- On Saturday the 27th they can fish in the mountain lake (or stop in the adventurer's guild) but can't leave the mountain or visit the carpenter's house, and can see a maximum of *4* human people (Gil counts!). Once opened, they will be allowed to head to Ginger Island by boat instead, with the same limit for humans (Willy counts).
- Rowan can attend the Moonlight Jellies because Moonlight Jellies, dammit, though they can still only speak to 12 people total on the occasion before triggering the event.

Well........ I won't be much help with this I have only had the one farm ever since I started playing.
I do not recall when I started but it was still 1.4 then came the grand wait of 1.5 (mobile player) and now 1.6.
Currently I'm taking a break from a furious spree of decorating for a month or so regularly and pondering if there is any more decorating to do. Will this be the end of this save? Probably not, since when 1.7 comes out I will just return. Should I start new farms, probably but I just like this one too much to abandon (bit dramatic but that's the felling).

I generally get bored once I have the obelisks and the golden clock. I usually have what I need to go to perfection by then too but it doesn't motivate me to complete it. I really prefer starting from scratch and find a challenge in getting more efficient each time. I also delete my old saves after a little while because I know I'm never going back. I do have an old ipad mini that I haven't updated and I keep it for playing a new save back on 1.5 from time to time. It was a much simpler time.

Golden Clock is fair game for a new farm. That's pretty much endgame for most people lol. Perfection on every save is gonna be really tedious and boring.

For me usually the Golden Clock is the last thing I need for Perfection.
I actually enjoy doing the collections, so I usually have everything done for perfection except maybe one or two obelisks and that clock.

At first I started over when I realized I could do something better or sooner. Then I started over on reaching perfection, trying new maps and spouses for each new save, and competing with my past self. Now I'm on a save where I'm taking it easier, and determined to keep playing even after I visit the summit.
It’s sounds like you’re trying to perfect perfection! Please do enjoy the game too or you will burn out and not return. I to have a perfectionist mentality and that’s when I get frustrated. Do something small that is different. Start in the fall or winter instead of Spring. With that small change you will find lots of ways to just enjoy Stardew and the rest will come when it comes.

You're basically telling me to do what I mentioned I already was doing. Seems like you didn't read the last sentence of my previous post. The save I mentioned there just reached year 8.
