1.6 Update What happened in your game today?

Done a few more days. Had to miss the first day of an Extended Family quest because I forgot that I had to harvest the diamonds and mushrooms. Caught 8 Legend II on the remaining two days, and let the kegs on Ginger Island slip another day...

Have been busy completing a major grind part in another game, and getting a couple of days of SDV has been my reward for enduring the mind-numbing boredom. The song title "My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free" comes to mind even though my save in SDV had me running around from chore to chore, because it didn't tie me up for irl hours on end doing one single task.

I have so far cleaned up most of my earlier farms. I'm currently working on my Wilderness farm. It is working fine, though - not much adjustment needed.

I'll probably finish Winter on this farm later today and move on to the Four Corners farm. So far that's the one I like best, although the Beach farm surprised me. It's way better than I thought it would be.

Rowan realised it was time to do their first venture into town for the Spring. Good timing; it was pouring so they didn't need to track down the cat or water the crops where they had yet to set up sprinklers, and all the chickens and cows and even the hedgehogs and otter* were easy to reach indoors. So they braced themselves, and begged Robin for a well since they'd moved their main planting area down onto the beach and far from fresh water. They also gave Emily an apricot, got a whole lot of geodes broken, and added a bunch of items to the museum, as well as buying the largest backpack possible.

On the way, they noticed one of the items on the big bulletin board would run the rest of the month and could be fulfilled; they just needed a LOT more potato seeds. At this point, being overwhelmed a bit by having to talk to people, they went off to the secret woods to finally deliver that weird sweet berry they've had since fall. Late at night they finally remembered they'd completely missed going to the community centre, so snuck through the farm and up the more private road, instead of through town, so they wouldn't have any chance of running into anyone else by accident.

The next morning, in thankful solitude (Other than Robin's banging about where the well should be, but Robin respected folks trying to get work done, and didn't appreciate her own labour being interrupted for anything less than a ripe peach either) they mostly fired the ore they'd gained from breaking geodes, and planted a lot of potatoes, and watched the beaver* splashing and playing in the stream as soon as he'd had a petting from the farmer. They also planted one significant flower patch**, in hopes of a Giant Bloom. So far they'd had no luck doing a dedicated patch with melons, or pumpkins, or powdermelons, but maybe this season would be the first.

They sat in the pottery, then, and made a few more porcelain cups*. They would achieve their goal of a complete tea set. They just would.

* obviously a mod.
** from a mod with a couple of of extra giant crops.

Gave Pierre his old stock list. A stock list he once possessed and then lost. A stock list that enabled him to stock seeds regardless of season, a profound competitive edge against Joja Mart. A stock list that is somehow in a vending machine in Mr. Qi's secret lair. Another reason to hate Qi. (And no, I don't have to like Pierre to hate Qi for stealing from him and then fencing the stuff to the farmer).

Still working on my flower garden (I want my flowers color-coordinated but also actually growing, so I have to keep replanting until I get the color flower I want in the right place). I'm about halfway there. Also working on filling the quarry with crystallariums (so ... constant deconstruction of treasure hunters and staircases going on) for completeness and lots of pretty 😍. In the meantime, I went to the Night Market and bought 3 of the last 4 Lupini paintings (I seem to be missing one from a previous year ... hmmm...). Put them in my display shed, which actually works out - unfortunately the shed is one tile width shy of accommodating all 9 paintings, grrrr. So I'll have to put the last one in the house. Eh.

My headcanon of the stock list is that Abigail stole the stock list, partially out of spite after a family argument. The Wizard accepted it as payment for dying her hair with that machine in his basement. The Wizard then sold it to Qi for whatever reason.

ETA: Qi just thought the return could spark an interesting scene between the farmer and Pierre, which is why he bought it and put it as one of the items to buy for his gems.

My own theory is that it crawled into Lewis' hand while he was "collecting taxes," perhaps to make Pelican Town more attractive to JojaMart. Qi made him an offer he couldn't refuse, and sells it back to the farmer because, by the time the farmer reaches GI, the matter of whether Joja stays or leaves is settled.

I tidied up my first few farms. The first one was a mess, to be honest, and took me a while. By the time I was at farm number 6, there was nothing I'd do differently, so I sort of played out the season for farms 6 and 7.

So I guess it's time to start my final farm. (At least final until 1.7 is out with hopefully a new farm type...) It's Meadowlands, and I'm excited about starting with chickens. I am not a big fan of parsnips. LOL!!

(yesterday)
Despite their best efforts, Rowan found themselves not entering the caverns until late afternoon, which meant that while they made it far enough to unlock one more elevator, they also ran into a floor that seemed to be one narrow hall turning around on itself. They drifted off before they found either a staircase down or an end to the spiral. They roused a little when someone picked them up in the dark, fearing it was some monster, but the hands were friendly, and not invasive and they fell asleep again before they could identify them as anything but human. This freaked them out a little, come morning, waking in their own bed in clothes that still smelled of the mine - it had been years since they could trust another human to hold them, but then they found a letter in the mailbox, indicating it had been Linus, the old fellow with the tent. They weren't close with Linus - they weren't close with anyone, all things considered - but somehow it was still reassuring; the old guy didn't seem dangerous. They were short money, and debated whether they believed him about it being someone else he'd scared off, before ultimately deciding they didn't care, as long as no harm had come to their person.

They did consider what their cottage might look like to a visitor - a bit cluttered and a bit disorganized, mostly, but at least it didn't seem ugly to Rowan. Okay, maybe they hadn't picked the perfect flooring in the living room, but they liked it better than they liked the idea of sitting there going through the catalogue yet again. They could still use a dresser, though. It was just that so far, every time they'd asked Robin she'd said either she hadn't made one in a while (in their first spring) or that someone else in town had just bought up the one she'd finished.

Still, they went about their chores. It was raining, so they made sure the animals had feed indoors, but took their time checking the rest of the farm before they meandered down to the crops. Another tree in the orchard had matured, so they tried to set up the decorative bricking, but while it looked like there was room on the cliff's edge, the bricks looked precarious, and with the coop right below the cliff, they decided a slightly unfinished pattern because of a cliff's edge was better than the bricks coming down in a a storm and putting a hole in the coop roof.

Some of the tulips had come up garish yellow. Rowan picked those to sell, on the logic someone must love that gaudy colour, then, remembering they meant to work on the big crop order from the bulletin board, replaced them with potatoes instead of flowers. They had enough irises* and blue jazz that the bees were mostly making honey from those, anyhow, and hardly ever made it as far as the tulips.

At least the well was finished, even if it wasn't needed yet in the wet weather. Robin had dug out grandpa's dry broken classic style one with one that could almost pass for a natural spring*.

But it was late enough now for Rowan to start trying to catch a few more eels... and cursed their luck as they ended up wandering to bed after having deposited a pile of herring and halibut in the shipping bin instead. They'd even seen eels in the water*, but none, not one, on the hook.

I played Junimo Kart. That's pretty much it. Gifted some people, completed some orders, fished up some fich, but other than that - all junimo kart. A lot of it. Passed ghastly galleon for the first time, went into the mushroom level with 5 lives, wasted them all of the first couple jumps. Yeah I have yet to figure that out. I do feel like I'm improving. Or today was just a good day to play it. ¯\_ :crab: _/¯

Today I took pity on Seb and skipped the flower dance. Instead I spent the day converting the crystallariums in the quarry to a new gem (which takes a good half day at least now that it's full).

Flower garden is getting closer - tulips and poppies are set up properly, summer spangle only has one color wrong and fairy roses only have three (out of 12, I went with two pots per color for fairy and jazz). But the blue jazz is being ornery!

I *do* wish there was symmetry in the tulips. Why are there only 5 tulip colors when the others have either 6 or 3????

One would think, when it was a habit to only go out on a certain day of the week, that one would REMEMBER to go out on that day. But on Saturday the 13th, Rowan woke feeling chagrined, as the day before was when they should have gone into Cindersap forest to get in their river fishing, maybe visit the tower, and, most importantly, check with the travelling cart who smuggled out select goods from the Gotoro empire. They'd missed it because Saturdays were their normal day very other week.

Well, no point in going out today, when the wagon wouldn't be there. Sunday, then.

So instead, they did their rounds on the farm, and in the pottery; they finally had the last teacup made for their first teaset. They put it in the shipping bin well wrapped, along with a heap of the better quality produce (they kept the mediocre or funny looking crops in the fridge, to cook with) curious how much it would sell for; they weren't good at tracking costs, but they hoped it would be worth the work.

And into the mine. And at last, at last, just after midnight, partway through that darn spiral, they found a stairwell down to where they thought the next elevator shaft would be...

... it was, but there was also one of those strange chests, set out, with their name etched into it. The first one had been a shock - and made them even less inclined to visit town and learn exactly who laid out these rewards, when reportedly hardly anyone else had been this far down in ages. It definitely wasn't Clint - while he seemed to be happy to reap the benefits of the elevators for fetching ore - and fast escape from monsters - he definitely wasn't going in advance of them. And that Marlon fellow from the adventurer's guild was in and out all the time, including in the depths, but he'd said it wasn't him, and looked too genuinely confused (and possibly miffed nobody was leaving him chests?). Certainly nobody who was that stingy on his buy-backs for swords and footwear would also be generous enough to leave expensive items in a cave for someone else. Yes, he'd given Rowan the first sword, but that had clearly been a desire not to see the newcomer splattered all over the caves before they could last long enough to afford a better weapon.

But they kept appearing, and the shock had dulled a bit, especially with the annoyance that two of them had contained slingshots - Rowan understood why someone might want a long distance weapon when the monsters started crowding in, but they just weren't any good with the slingshot, and killing even basic slimes took either so many stones, or the ore they needed for so many other tasks, that it was never worth it.

So they weren't expecting much when they opened this one, but there, carefully wrapped against dust and dirt and fumes, was a Stardrop.

Huh.

Half a second of speculation of poison or curses cast on it, and Rowan ate it anyway. They were already beholden to this mystery person, so many prior items could have been cursed and weren't.

But there was the familiar, almost tingling, inexplicably delicious taste, and their ears were filled with the soft trills and chirrups, their eyes briefly seemed to glimpse the flicker of feathers among greenery, blues and greens and orange, and that rare, startling red... and the peace they felt when they sat, still, and watched the songbirds at their feeders, the lightness of heart and the quiet healing.

The next day, in Cindersap, was an anticlimax, really. It was nice enough - they actually caught a goby among the sunfish. They ran into the rancher's little girl, who treated them like a stranger - which, fair - but handing her a flower at least soothed the worst of the child's alarm. They saw that pretty artist, sketching on the dock at the pond, and approached, feeling both the discomfort of talking to others and a pleasant peace. She smiled at them, and didn't object when they lingered a while, looking over the pond. It was even friendly, even before they offered her some of the fresh mushrooms they'd found in the deep part of the woods.

They had a jolt when they considered checking in with the wizard, even though they had nothing usefully magical on hand to soften his curt manner, and it would probably drive them to run right back to the farm if they did* - but with a jolt, they saw the purple haired girl from town - Caroline's daughter, they thought - hovering near that place. While she was pretty, she was daunting, and Rowan decided they weren't up to spending the last of their energy for talking to people on her right now*. Better to continue further through the woods and collect the rest of the forage...

* Rowan's rule on Cindersap weeks is if they talk to 4 human people they have to return to the farm. And the travelling merchant counts. So with Jas, Leah and the cart already covered...
