Like the kid (goats have “kids”) of a squid and it mated with another species of aquatic (or maybe extra terrestrial) life form and voila you have that thing. It even shoots fire balls, maybe it mated with a lava eel it’s reddish and the fire thing?

Was in fact that weird floating gumball in the mines with a face.

I believe the squid kid is simply the fallen angels of Yoba, forever condemned to the mines, and they drop squid ink for some reason-

Many entities claim that they are being something, demanding to be referred to as strange names or made up 'nouns, while that clearly is not the case, under the scope of either any science, or the plain old common sense.

At least "Squid Kids" never pester anybody, or vandalize community property for that matter and the least of their worries, is to ultimately "Cancel Culture" in Stardew Valley... They are not unicorns, but squids. Squids are good!

You're right! As defined by the game files authored by ConcernedApe himself, it's "Squid Kid", not "Squid Boy" or "Squid Girl", and we should be stanning them as the pink flaming gender-nonbinary icons they clearly canonically are!
