Came back to check on this, nearly a year later, the bug still persists. Sad.
Yes, it is frustrating. I handed down my old iMac to our daughter and got a new 15" M2 MacBook Air for myself. I see less of the stuttering, but I think it's reasonable to attribute that to the smaller display rather than the faster machine. it's definitely still there.

I think macOS 14 comes out next week. It will be interesting to see early adopters' reports on how well SDV works under it. Frankly, I'm going to wait a bit and see before updating my OS. I guess there's still hope that SDV 1.6 will fix the stuttering problem.

Has anyone noticed any improvement with Sonoma?
So far, I haven't heard of anyone updating and reporting the results. I'm reluctant to be the first one, but I may eventually give in.

Actually, I'm a little surprised that Apple hasn't released 14.0.1 yet. We may just end up getting 14.1 at this rate, but I'm not sure when that might be.

I went ahead and installed macOS Sonoma 14.1 when it came out. The video stutter bug is still more or less there. However, it seems that some game sessions exhibit the bug, but others do not.

I almost hate to say anything, but I think that macOS Sonoma 14.5 may have cured the video stutter problem. I'll play some more this evening and see if it returns.

Well, it was as I feared. The video stutter bug was just temporarily gone, and then it came back.

In the Graphics: settings enable windowed mode, you will have to manually stretch the window to the desired size as clicking full screen starts the lagging again. It’s annoying to have the little bar visible at the top but completely resolves any stuttering for me.

hope that helps!
