Training Rod and Seaweed question

Do you guys think the Training rod will increase the chance of catching seaweed? Asking because I'm about to start a playthrough where I put every single nonlegendary fish (including more new fish mod) into a fish pond and I'm going to need a ridiculous amount of seaweed, so so much seaweed. More seaweed than you can forcefeed Elliot in a lifetime. Algae is usually not a big deal but I'm always out of seaweed whenever I try to do fishponds in a playthrough

Small casts close to shore might help increase your seaweed collection. I’d try it with the training rod. I assume you’re playing on 1.5- because you mentioned mods. Seaweed does occasionally wash up on the beach farm.

I’ve noticed that seaweed seems rarer on 1.5, or maybe that’s because I built 15 fishponds on my beach farm. I’m curious to hear how this strategy works for you.

I'm going to use the double standard farm (mod) for the space. I completely forgot that one of the mods I use makes Linus a vendor for forageables. I'll still be trying to collect most of the seaweed on my own and only use him for when I'm empty. So I will be testing out the training rod thing. Gonna start the farm tomorrow

I checked a few options using Blade's Fish odds calculations:

It seems that using the training rod in the summer in the ocean virtually guarantees seaweed. It should be basically all you can catch. I haven't tested personally but I trust the calculations, and I will test it when time permits and share out my findings. If anyone has a chance to check it out before I do please let me know if it works!

Edit: Just did a quick test and it's looking good! The higher your fishing skill the better, cast distance doesn't really matter, sunny weather is perfect, just use a training rod in the ocean in summer and you should be able to stockpile seaweed nicely.

If I remember correctly (corrected by BlaDe below), when I tested for this, using the Training Rod in areas where most or all of the fish are out of its league—in other words, long casts—forced more seaweed. And of course the Ocean is the place for seaweed. This seems harmonious with what Giant Octopodes said.

Oh Bless your kind soul! Thank you. MNF mod makes seaweed less common so I was looking into alternate Seaweed options.

Long casts dont reduce the individual chances of easier fish. Rather, short casts reduce the individual chances of harder fish.

In summer on sunny days, the only "fish" in the pool is seaweed, so you either get that or trash.

On rainy days you can also hook the red snapper.

Update, midway through summer. Got a second pond (put a fish from MNF mod in it). Totally forgot that Willy gives you a pearl maxing out a crab pond. So that was nice. I'm also swimming in seaweed now. No longer worried about that part.

I was about to say that it doesn't work, but then I realized I was a moron because I was in Spring when testing it instead of Summer.
