Mac switch pro controller steam input crashing game

Hello, as the title says, I've tried enabling steam input so that I can use the Switch version controls (X for menu, Y for use tool), but whenever I enable Steam input, the game crashes -- or rather, won't even open up. If I disable it, the game opens just fine.

I'm using an M2 Macbook Air, in case it matters.

Im having the same problem! im on M1 MacBook Air. ive tried wired too and it doesnt work. steam recognises the controllers connected but as soon as i get into stardew it doesnt work, thats if it even launches
