I thought so to at first, but when I tasted the daikon radishes after cooking the dish, they made it taste a little sharper, and since Tokyo turnips are said to taste 'sweeter' than average turnips, I kinda assume it's fairly off-base.Daikon is a decent substitute, I think. For radishes… any not too hot radish ought to work. Daikon would be a little wimpy but in the ballpark.
But you're right in that it was in the ball park for making the dish doable if a little 'wimpy.'
I don't really know of any other not too hot radishes.
Maybe I just live in an inconvenient state.
