Question about Terraria!

Does anybody know, if the GOG version needs their "optional" client (galaxy) for Online Multiplayer?

I am thinking of buying it, yet i cannot decide at which store. Concerning Stardew, i regret purchasing the GOG version before, because it wasn't trully DRM-Free. What about Terraria? Should i buy it on Steam, or gog allows multiplayer without client?

I believe it requires Galaxy for anything other than local play as we had GOG Terraria first and did LAN co-op, same as Stardew. But we got it on Steam for remote co-op (kid’s friends had Steam but Galaxy would have worked if they were GOG users). Also there’s no DRM on GOG Stardew that I’ve found, logging into a client is a necessary evil of remote play for most games.
