Please help: Question about modding

Hello! I am in the middle of my very first PC (Windows) save (all of my previous saves were on Switch) and I was wondering if I wanted to start a new modded save, would I be able to play back and forth from my vanilla save to my modded save and keep all of my data from both?

Ive never modded before because i am new to the PC gaming world and I would love to participate but I would also like to do at least one playthrough with the game normally so before I mod it I need to know if I need to finish my current save before modding because I dont want to lose my progress or potentially bug the original game because I dont know whats going to happen. I have read the mod section of Wiki and couldnt find any information about this, im not sure if I missed it somewhere.

Thank you so much in advance guys!

I'll will answer to you with zero knowledge about modding this particular game (I only modded Halo and GTA SA) so I will use what my basic knowledge about what to do in this case, so I'll could be wrong (let's hope someone with the correct knowledge will illuminate us xd).
Before doing anything, make backup of your save files, always you are doing a modification like this, keep them in a safe place/folder/drive.
Depends the mod if you can keep playing using the same save: if the mod doesn't make a great change of the in-game events, objects or gameplay I'm sure you could use the same save between the vanilla and the modded version. Most of the cases (I guess) a modded version can work fine with "vanilla saves", but "modded saves" (saves created using a game with mods) couldn't work on the vanilla game (again, depends the mod, if you are using a mod just to change de color of something or new textures I'm sure I'll not be a problem, but if the mod adds new objects and changes some events I could say that save will not work on vanilla).
And again I lack context about modding this specific game so I just hope the garbage I wrote attracts an enlightened saint who will correct me (like stack overflow 😅 ).
