Pigs vs Sheep?

I keep one pig and one sheep just so I have them, but the pig definitely is not a money maker because there is so much grass there is nowhere to dig up truffles.
The pigs can dig up truffles in the grass, but to find them you kinda have to walk all over and find the spots where your path is blocked. Or use a scythe to reveal their location.

I recall being told that although they can appear in grass, the tile the pig stands on to look for a truffle can't have grass or it won't even look for one. So you need a lot of bare ground for a pig to wander around on. Since I see more and more truffles appear as the animals eat away the grass, I am inclined to believe this.

They can't dig up truffles on the grass tiles per se, but they can dig them up in gaps in the grass where they (or another pig) ate grass and left an open spot.

This basically just means pigs are better off being fed hay instead of large grass fields, which really isn't that expensive. A single truffle oil covers a pigs food for a month, so it can reasonably pay off its whole year of eating in a lucky day.

That's good because I NEVER let my animals out to eat grass lmfaoo. My cows eat hay only.

I think I'm gonna get one pig and see if I like it. If I don't I'm gonna sell it and buy sheep.
I have one pig on my current farm because I needed a truffle for one of the CC bundles. I like to have a lot of grass around the barn & coop, so I hardly get any truffles because they only dig them up on clear dirt spots (and the stone entrance of the greenhouse, apparently). Also, since there's so much grass, the truffles are usually hidden so unless I'm on the farm to hear them dug up, I often don't know there's one there until I run into an invisible obstacle. Usually while I'm trying to get out of the grass to kill a monster without cutting it. Overall, I'm not impressed with the pig. Vincent (my current farmer's brother-in-law) seems happy about the "piggy" on the farm, so I'm keeping it. I'm definitely not getting another though.

Irridium quality wool makes two spools of cloth, so I think the sheep & rabbits are more valuable for how I play.

Well you could feed your cows grass....

But yeah, if you're already maxed out on friendship/mood, it's very easy to maintain the max levels and you absolutely don't need to bother feeding the animals grass (or at least, don't need to guarantee they always have it, you could have some grass but then keep up your hay stocks in case they eat through it too quickly).

One benefit of grass though is that you don't need to pet your animals if they eat grass at high friendship levels, which saves a lot of time if you're pre-autopetter

I like petting my cows so that's not really a benefit lol. It's very easy to do.

I don't much care for either. Sheep are unnecessary since rabbits also produce wool, and pigs only "produce" less than 75% of the time.

I never do much with cloth, and I only keep a pig long enough to get enough truffles to complete everything (4 truffles total; ship one as is, ship one oil, make a Rain Totem, have one oil for Lewis's quest).

Pigs are also really ugly when grown up.

Overall, pigs but only so it's not necessary to rely on Traveling Cart RNG.

I agree. Piglets are cute, pigs are ugly. I prefer sheep, but I like them wooly, and they're ugly when you clip them...

I currently have two sheep, four goats, four cows, two ostriches and four pigs. The pigs are in a little barn with a fenced-off area. Every so often a truffle ends up on the wrong side of the fence, but they're usually pretty easy to find.

Farmer Bobbi just keeps Sheep, originally for the Wool to make Cloth for Tailoring from but then for the passive profit that Cloth makes. It's pretty time-efficient and annoying-efficient as picking up Truffles incurs penalties on both. Coupled with leaving the Barn open and having enough grass on the farm to feed for the year, Bobbi's only choice is:

Lazy: walk allllll the way to the Barn, grab Wool from Autograbber and put in Loom on the next tile. Maybe later when she feels like it (like next week) bung Cloth in the Mini Shipping Bin the next tile over

SuperBobbi Lazy: walk allllllllllll the way over to the Barn, grab Wool from Autograbber and bung in the Mini Shipping Bin 2 tiles over. What fool farmer put this bin so far away?

Well, she could place a few looms right in the sheep barn and that mini shipping bin you get from Pierre also, then maybe the way would be a little more efficient... Just a thought... But being lazy is kinda statement, so there's no proper reason to change this running system 😇

But

Butbutbut that's right where they already are. In the Barn. Next to the Autograbber all lined up in a row next to the Mini Shipping Bin.

But then the Shipping Bin is like an extra tile away from the AutoGrabber 'cuz the stupid Loom is in the way and if Bobbi wants to put the Wool directly from the 'grabber to the Bin because the Loom is just too much effort today, her teensy short little T. rex arms can't reach that huge extra tile and the whole point is being lazy.

It's a conundrum.

And have you seen where the house is? The farm is like ginormous and she's outta breath by the time she remembers there's a Barn and then searches for where she left it this season and then all these animals leave a pile of stuffs in the Autograbber and then what gets processed in what machine, it's really just too much to do more than once a week.
_____

I am really trying to get a bit better at drawing because I feel that Farmer Bobbi needs her own comic strip to fully express just how exhausting Stardew Farm work is. Yes this is public pressure as that iPad is staring me down right now with an evil knowing grin on it's smug little face.

Stupid sapient technology.

Oh yeah, I should have known, this is practiced lazyness at it's best 😂 Big sympathy and a huge hug for Farmer Bobbi for being stucked at this really demanding Farm with all this animals and crops und ways to go... 😇🫂

A comic strip sounds great, based on some Screenshots maybe a KI could do some drawing? 🤷🏻
