I was initially playing Stardew on the Xbox app for Windows (it was available for free for a while) and decided to buy it on the Steam version so I can keep playing. However, when I try to join my friend's farm it shows me this message and I can't join as my character. Does anyone know a solution?

Expanding on the above post;;

Whilst you can link your Xbox account with Steam, neither the saves nor achievements will actually transfer over from one to the other. You can still view the games/saves (however, this actually does not occur with all games, where there are some games/saves that won’t even show up), but Steam will essentially not register them belonging to your Steam account. If this makes sense? As a result, I do not believe there is a solution, nor have I been able to find one (maybe there is one, but I have not been successful in finding any potential solutions).

Important side note;; I have personally never linked my Xbox and Steam account, and the above mentioned is being based on the research I’ve done involving this.

Hi! In the latest versions of the game, the host player can enter this command in the chatbox:
Code:
/unlinkPlayer YourName
That will set your character as unclaimed, so you can reclaim it.
