Hi there, first-time poster, I'm in dire need of some help and I'm beginning to get desperate. My game has been consistently crashing after going to bed, I haven't been able to save any progress at all and I've been locked out of my 100+ hour save for upwards of half a year irl. I'm now playing on Switch 2, but this problem began on the Switch 1.
I'm currently playing on v1.6.15 build 11, but this issue has been present on multiple patches since roughly mid April of 2025. I unfortunately do not have the precise date or patch information for when the error first occurred, but my most recent screenshot of the game suggests it would be around that time.
The farm was started after the 1.6 update and is a Meadowlands layout. It is a single player farm and always has been, and I have never filed for divorce. If it's relevant, I have a second profile with perfection which seems to work normally. The save is currently on Spring 19 Year 3 and has 101 hours logged. Starting roughly the same time as year 3 began, the game would periodically crash while going to sleep in a bed, exiting the game before saving the progress of the previous day.
Specifically, I enter the bed at any hour of the day, the screen fades to black, and right before the white "saving" text in the bottom left appears, a Switch system notification displays, reading (currently on Switch 2): "There was a problem, and the software needed to close." with an exclamation point box above, after which I am exited to the Switch home screen with the game closed.
This occurred a small handful of times, no more than 3 by the middle of Spring, and whenever it happened I was able to simply replay the day again and it would save properly. However, starting the 17th of Spring, the game began to crash every sleep no matter what. Looking up solutions online, most were only relevant to multiplayer farms, but I did whatever I could find and removed hats from pets, emptied chests in the house, etc., yet nothing was able to work. No amount of in-game problem solving would save the game, I could sort inventory all day or I could immediately go back to bed at 6 am and get the same notification. I had to give up on playing. It did not occur to me to post on these forums at the time and I couldn't bring myself to start a new save, so I waited for an update and tried to give it another shot whenever I heard about a new patch, though it never ended up working on any available version.
My final hope was getting a Switch 2, as I was holding out for the chance the error was related to system performance or processing power. I was able to get one coincidentally just in time for the Switch 2 version of the game, but unfortunately the exact same error persisted on the Switch 2 version, on a brand new console and fresh install of the upgraded version. At this point, I tried looking up a few more options, and one suggestion I had never tried was to sleep in the Ginger Island house. I went and tried it, and it worked! I was able to save the game for the first time in irl months, and my game had progressed to the 18th. I went back to the main farm and immediately slept again, and it saved once again and progressed me to the 19th. At this point I had assumed the problem was solved, so I took a long day doing many chores to reacquaint myself. When I went to bed in the main farmhouse that night, the game crashed once again, and is again now crashing every time I sleep in the farmhouse in the same way as before. Considering I am some ways away from attaining the Island Obelisk, it's not viable to get to the beach by 5 every day, so I am simply plain stuck. In truth I am just devastated about this, this is my favorite game and I'd been holding out hope for so long, I miss this game so much. Any help would be greatly and sincerely appreciated!
Some more farm info which may or may not be relevant. I am married to Alex, no children, never divorced. It is a very animal heavy farm, with 2 D. Coops and 4 D. Barns, though 1 barn is currently empty. Mostly pigs. There are 2 Pet Bowls with 1 Cat and 1 Turtle currently residing, and in my time loop purgatory they and the horse all have hats on. The farm has a mix of items, and besides animals there aren't really too much of any one thing compared to an average playthrough. The interior of the farmhouse is a bit cluttered and has a number of chests, fish tanks, and mannequins in use, plus a well stocked fridge and mini fridge. There are no glitches used on the farm, the save has been progressed up until the Island Resort opening (no Joja), and I'm a little ways away from my first Mastery level. I'm happy to give any further information on whichever details of my farm may be helpful. Thank you so much!!
