There's so many clothing items I think combinations are almost limitless. Making a themed set is always fun, you can match to different activities - like one for mining, one for fishing etc. And a wedding outfit of course. I was actually just thinking of making some for the various festivals. 
Side question: is there an add-on or a mod that displays clothing item ID's in-game? I'm trying to collect every shirt, but like half of them are just called 'shirt' so they're a bit tricky to match to an external list.

I think I burnt myself out during middle and high school years. The height of when hanging out at malls was THE thing to do with the friends. My farmer now represents irl me more, comfortable and casual. Life’s too short to be uncomfortable.
But I think you should rock the style that calls to you. If you have 1.5 you can get the sewing machine, slay a bunch of mummies and have a hay day decorating with food, forage, artifacts, minerals, pretty much anything can turn into something beautiful. If you have 1.6 Emily at the desert festival gives you a free out fit every day. Also clothes randomly drop from artifact spots and in the mines now.

2) Deluxe Pirate Hat, Prismatic Shirt (the black one with the color-changing diamond in the middle), Prismatic Pants, Mermaid Boots (perfect match to the hat)

I like to wear the mouse ears and matching shirt. Hat mouse and I can be buddies!
I also dressed up my farmer in iridium armor, white pants, crystal shoes, and one of the helmets (don't remember which one). He was cosplaying as Ramza Beoulve (chapter 3 outfit) from Final Fantasy Tactics.

I'm a pretty bland dresser (same clothes for four in-game years) but with the 1.6 update, I MUST have some winter clothes! Everyone looks so cute in their winter coats and some hats. I was looking at the wiki yesterday and saw a denim jacket I MUST have. Have fun and post some of your outfits!

The tailoring page of the wiki has the full list, with pictures, of all the clothes, hats, and masks you can make. Almost every item can be made into something: every crop, forage, fish, cooked dish, mineral, artifact!
Some of my favorites:
Fish shirt, the fish comes out the same color as the fish you use!
Smiley face shirts, with sugar, cookies, lemon stone
Sign of Yoba shirt
Star shard, lunarite, prehistoric skull make shirts with star, moon, skull. Skeleton costume shirt from any other bone.
Wumbus shirt, wear it to the wumbus movie! The other strange doll makes the Bobo shirt- is Bobo a character from Wumbus?
Strange bun makes the heart shirt
Ancient doll makes a creepy doll shirt
Tortilla shirt, fried egg shirt, both are pretty silly. Shrimp cocktail and banana also make funny shirts with shrimp or banana on the front. They all look like you sewed the food onto the shirt! Also carp surprise makes a goofy carp shirt.
Slime shirt with petrified slime, lucky shirt with rabbit foot
Shane's favorite pepper poppers make a Tunnelers jersey, just like Shane's.
The bone flute makes a dressy jacket that looks similar to the boys flower dance costume

This is so me. One and done for a year or more. lol. No one cares in game what you wear, it’s us outsiders who care. Even Emily and Haley who talk about clothes a lot always wear the exact same outfit in game lol.

The best Clothing ideas come when you have full access to your wardrobe and can see all (OK fine, most) of it all at once and see combinations you may at first not have thought to be compatible. Or even fabulous!
What you need is to have Robin build you a walk-in closet where you can then access clothing as Yoba intended: On a Mannequin and not in some crowded, lumpy Dresser. Leave the Dresser to your collection of 2 dozen Glow and 47 Small Magnet Rings, your clothes need to hang and to breathe.
As an example here is Farmer Bobbi's closet with some of this year's fashion choices:
Yes she's negotiating with Emily on whether to expand into the kids' room and boot them to the basement with the Fish.
