Charcoal kin should give you 5 coal for 10 wood instead of 1 coal for 10 wood..

Only 1 piece of coal for 10 wood???? Wth? And it takes a long time to make in the machine too. What is this logic?

a 1:2 ratio seems excessive, I think the 1:10 ratio is reasonable. first of all if we talk purely monetary value 1 coal costs 15x/5x as much as wood. (Y1 10g/150g Y2 50g/250g) so this supports the ratio. Also wood is very easy to come by since one can just farm the forest or even plant a massive amount for example at the train station or in the desert. The current conversion rate allows you too turn excess wood into coal, or pushes you into the mines to find carts/kill sprites.

If the ratio was change to 1 coal per 2 wood, it would surely just cost 2 wood and give 1 coal... not cost 10 and give 5.

And it takes a long time to make in the machine too.
