Have not tried this in Skull cavern, so unsure how well it works there. But have tried in dangerous normal mines.
I'm using a combined iridium band/luck ring, and a vampire ring. Plus the post-mastery trinket that heals you, at level 2.. That worked surprisingly well. Most of the time health was practically topped up, and energy wasn't. Actually had to eat food to get energy, instead of health. That is unheard of, haha.
But eventually I want to use the Burglar's ring, for twice the drops. Think that works well in SC too, as we tend to end up battling many "crawling" iridium nodes, that drop iridium when killed. It does add up nicely.
On console we can't really do deep dives either, so will have to rely on a much slower accumulation of iridium and especially prismatic shards.
