Windows Amazon Luna controller only for Player 2

Until now I played the GOG version of Stardew Valley with a XBox controller on a PC.
The XBox controller is detected on startup and I can play the game with it.

On a other computer, I'm attempting to play the game with a Amazon Luna controller connected via Bluetooth.
In this case it seems that player 1 has to use the keyboard and mouse. (using the controller does nothing on startup, I need to navigate the menu with the mouse)
Using the controller in game triggers player 2 to be added.

So the Luna controller does seem to get detected by the game, but always seems tied to player 2.
Player 1 in this case must use the keyboard and mouse.

Does anyone know a way to ensure that Player 1 can use the Amazon Luna controller?

Found the issue.
As mentioned before: Turns out that the Amazon Luna Controller was being detected

However:
The Luna controller is present in windows as 2 devices.
One device is "not working".
Stardew Valley assigned the "not working" device to "player 1", and the working device to "player 2".

Tried all sorts of software to change the order of the controllers in Windows or the game.
Tried disabling the device. (Don't do that, causes a blue screen). Nothing worked.

Eventually I got a workaround that I will describe here:
- Ensure the controller is off
- Start Stardew Valley
- Turn on the Controller when the game is on the title screen or menu screen
- The game will now work with the Luna controller for player 1
