Android 1.6.14 Controller bug

Hello,

I'm playing on Android, and using a mobile controller, but the right joystick and "View button" on the controller are not working...
And also encountered different problems in Inventory(backpacks), Menus, Chest(box) and Merchants.

• Android verson: 14
• In-game language: Chinese
• single-player
• Controller: ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad (controller like xbox)
• game version:1.6.14 build 24317

----- Cannot open Journal via "View button", and edit the Emote list too.
80px-XboxOne_View.png(view button).

----- Mobile does not support the "Move Cursor" after connecting to the controller, which makes the right joystick control invalid, but it still supports Emote and Chat.

----- In Inventory, press the button "A" to select an item, press "A" again to cancel, and then press "X" last, the item will disappear... they items are not deleted through trash cans and won't get any gold value.
It is a real disappearance, this bug can even directly destroy basic tools such as sickles, hoes and all items (originally such tools items and special items cannot be deleted)

----- Again in Inventory, due to the lack of a "Cursor", when selecting items with the left joystick and dpad, i don't know what item for my selected (although it still effectively moves the selection)

----- In the Wallet menu (Special Items & Powers), i cannot view the item information in the list by using the left joystick or dpad, (This may also be due to the lack of "Cursor") and the gift log of friends list too...

----- In the Chest(box), you cannot use the joystick and dpad Select the function option on the far right (auto sort, coloring)

----- In Merchants, you cannot purchase items by pressing the button "A"(All places selling items, Marnie, Robin...) .
However in the Overworld, Crafting and Menus the check function of button "A" works.

Thank you for writing this post.
I've joined this forum just to comment here to add another voice to this. I obviously have all of these problems.
Some of these problems have existed prior to the 1.6 update, by the way, at least in my experience.

A problem not mentioned is when I use my controller to put items into my shipping box, it won't be additive, and will remove the previous item and then put the next item I want to sell into the box.

Another problem I have is that for some merchants, when I use my controller to look at their item list or house upgrades or whatever, it acts as if I cancelled that instead (no, I'm not confusing my buttons). I'll edit this post when I can be more specific.

The item disappearing bug is pretty egregious, I have to say and re-iterate.

It seems strange that the Switch controls haven't been converted for Android/iOS use, as they would pretty much be perfect for use with a wireless controller.

😭My Galaxy Sword disappeared like this not long ago, at first i thought it was forgotten in a box.
It was not until i sorted out the inventory that i found out that there was a bug....

Thanks for the extensive reports, everyone!

Controller support on mobile has always been fairly unstable, and we're aware it got worse in 1.6 as well. Our priority since the 1.6 mobile launch has been to fix all the crashes players were experiencing, but we'll work to improve gameplay & quality of life issues such as these in future versions.

Thanks for your reports & patience, hopefully we'll have some of these issues resolved in time

Oh, I'm so sorry. I hope you could recover it somehow or make a new one...

By the way, have you noticed other bugs? I would like some confirmation before I report more bugs. For example, my game crashed when I saw the scene to get the fishing rod. It has not crashed since I pressed 'skip' during that scene, hopefully it was a unique situation.

On some screens, pressing the X button to close that menu will make a sound that sounds like 2 sounds. For example, on the relationship page if you are a viewing a villager, and you touch them to view their individual page (that shows what they like), then you press X, the sound will be different and almost sound as if it's doubled.

Using an upgraded watering can (and I assume other tools) requires me to stop completely to use its upgraded function, otherwise it will start to be used in a singular fashion. I didn't have this problem on Switch or PC.

The inventory bar seems poorly implemented on Android (and iOS I assume). At least for me, controllers with L1/R1 and L2/R2 don't seem to work effectively. L1/R1 can only go to the next item by clicking, but shows some information when you hold that button down. L2/R2 quickly goes through items, but tends to stop at the 12th item and returns to the 1st item, despite having bought upgrades for the bag. Further, it's a bit irritating that you can go back to the first item by pressing R2, but not the other way to the last item by pressing L2.

On the Switch you are able to change between your different inventory bars, depending on how many upgrades you have. Again, I think that for us Android players, it would be sufficient to import the Switch game controls for our purposes. It seems odd we cant, in general, customise our controls, like players on the PC can.

As mentioned in my previous post, merchants such as Robin react as though I've cancelled the conversation when I actually press my confirm button on a menu selection, such as buy items/properties or whatever.

Perhaps another unique instance, but Clint didn't talk to me at his shop, the menu selection merely popped up. I was trying to talk to him from behind his shop counter. This seems to have rectified itself for whatever reason, but might be worth looking into.

I'm using either a Nintendo Swith Pro Controller or an 8bitdo Micro controller.

I'm also facing the same problems using my mobile controller. The item delete glitch is especially dangerous! It can even delete basic tools!

Can't open journal with controller. Can't use auto-sort, deposit item, change color in chests. Some UIs don't have a cursor which prevents you from selecting elements, such as the Friends window.

Thank you for the 1.6.14.10 fixes. May I know if you can support gamepads that only have START/SELECT instead of a touchpad like PS4 controllers. I'm using a cheap bluetooth controller (Terios T3) and it doesn't have a touchpad to open the Journal or autosort items in inventory.

I feel like SELECT should be a sufficient alternative. But right now it doesn't do anything.

it is still occurring. On current iOS the xbox view button does not let you access the journal. I have tried disabling the screenshot capabilities and it still doesn't work.

Found this post via Google; apparently other people are experiencing similar problems.

I want to start by saying SDV on Switch has ~AMAZING~ controller support. It's a well done port that works flawlessly on console. I wish DST had the same kind of controller support w/snap to grid.

Mobile (Android) however, is a different story. The tap controls seem pretty good and intuitive, but I really want to be able to play with a controller and have the same experience as on Switch.

The issues however, are as follows:
1. 'Y' button deletes items inside of inventory management instead of picking up 1 at a time like on Switch. Same bug as above, the item doesn't go to the trash can, it just completely disappears. If I first highlight an item in a stack, and then press 'Y' on another stack, I noticed it sends items to the larger stack. The ideal behavior would be for the 'Y' button to function exactly the same as it does on switch.
2. Placing furniture/decorations with 'Y' causes the item to rapidly toggle between placed and picked up. The only way around this is to very quickly tap 'Y', or use the touch screen controls. It seems to treat press and hold as rapid fire.
3. R2 Trigger properly cycles through items, and loops back around at the end of the list. L2 however does not loop back around. So if you're trying to go from the first item slot to the last item slot you have to cycle through all 12 items. If you accidentally go too far, it cycles back to the first item slot and you have to start all over again.
4. It would be nice to remap controls, but luckily one of the controllers I have allows me to remap the buttons in the software, so I can fix the A/B issue. It might be good to take a note from Minecraft however, and add "A/B swap" in the settings.
5. Can you add "lock taskbar" to the mobile version?

I appreciate the work you're putting into the mobile version, so it would be amazing if you were able to fix all these controller issues.

Edit to add: I tried this with two different Bluetooth controllers, and on two different Android devices (tablet & phone) both running the latest version. The issues were repeatable in all cases.

Controller support on android is driving me mad. Why is it so bad when the game is released on so many consoles? :(

Thank you so much for sharing this. I tried this and it works.

My other problem was for example I want to purchase a furniture from Robin, I can't seem to but it with whatever button I use. It's my first time using a controller on mobile so it bothers me that I can't maximize it lol

Thank you and your team for adapting the game to the mobile version! I often play on a large-screen Android tablet, and I’ve noticed that the gamepad support is indeed quite lacking. I have a few suggestions. Since gamepad users are definitely a minority, we could automatically switch to the same control logic and button mappings used on the PC version when a gamepad is detected. For example, the LB and LT buttons could be mapped accordingly. By default, it could switch to a horizontal quick-access bar (if the current one is vertical). The main difference between the mobile and PC versions lies in the swipe-style quick-access bar on mobile. I hope you understand what I mean.
