Android 1.6.14 Controller bug

Have the same issues too with the furniture selection where it rapidly picks the item up and put it down. Button acts like it's on turbo mode even though it isn't.

Just started playing on mobile using controller (Flydigi Vader 3 Pro) and I experienced not being able to buy items in from Pierre. No matter what button I press it just won't buy the item.

The rest of the issues I encountered were already told by the others
I wonder if a mod will ever exist that could sort it

I really hope this gets resolved soon. I’m using a controller on Android and bugs are really ruining the experience. Really hope they can just port mapping from switch. Do we have any news on this?

I just made an account to tell this issue still persists. Please, it has been more than a year. I always play from mobile. I sometimes cast to a tv with a cable but this issue prevents me playing stardew. 1.6.15.0

Hello,

I'm playing on Android, and using a mobile controller, but the right joystick and "View button" on the controller are not working...
And also encountered different problems in Inventory(backpacks), Menus, Chest(box) and Merchants.

• Android verson: 14
• In-game language: Chinese
• single-player
• Controller: ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad (controller like xbox)
• game version:1.6.14 build 24317

----- Cannot open Journal via "View button", and edit the Emote list too.
View attachment 26106(view button).

----- Mobile does not support the "Move Cursor" after connecting to the controller, which makes the right joystick control invalid, but it still supports Emote and Chat.

----- In Inventory, press the button "A" to select an item, press "A" again to cancel, and then press "X" last, the item will disappear... they items are not deleted through trash cans and won't get any gold value.
It is a real disappearance, this bug can even directly destroy basic tools such as sickles, hoes and all items (originally such tools items and special items cannot be deleted)

----- Again in Inventory, due to the lack of a "Cursor", when selecting items with the left joystick and dpad, i don't know what item for my selected (although it still effectively moves the selection)

----- In the Wallet menu (Special Items & Powers), i cannot view the item information in the list by using the left joystick or dpad, (This may also be due to the lack of "Cursor") and the gift log of friends list too...

----- In the Chest(box), you cannot use the joystick and dpad Select the function option on the far right (auto sort, coloring)

----- In Merchants, you cannot purchase items by pressing the button "A"(All places selling items, Marnie, Robin...) .
However in the Overworld, Crafting and Menus the check function of button "A" works.
Oh no! I just made an account to talk about all these problems (2026) and I just saw your post from a year and a half ago and everything is still buggy now, makes me think no one cares about controllers in Android 😔

Hey everyone, I ran into these exact same issues on my Ayaneo and Odin and got frustrated enough to build a SMAPI mod that fixes them. It's called Android Consolizer and it addresses pretty much everything in this thread:

  • X button item deletion: Completely blocked. Your iridium pickaxe is safe.
  • Invisible inventory cursor: Full console-style cursor with D-pad/thumbstick navigation.
  • Can't buy from shops: A button purchases work at every shop (Marnie, Robin, Desert Trader, Blacksmith upgrades — all of them).
  • Furniture rapid toggle: One press = one interaction, no more turbo pickup/placement.
  • Chest sorting/color picker: X sorts, A transfers stacks, full 7x3 color swatch navigation.
  • Trigger toolbar cycling: LB/RB switches rows, LT/RT moves within the row. Also has a bumper-only mode for Xbox Bluetooth controllers where triggers aren't detected.

Basically turns Android controller support into something that plays like the Switch version. 79 fixes total across shops, chests, inventory, shipping bin, Robin's building menu, Community Center bundles, and all the game menu tabs.

It's on Nexus: Android Consolizer

Requires SMAPI Android by NRTnarathip. Every feature is individually toggleable via Generic Mod Config Menu if you only want some of the fixes. Happy to answer questions if anyone runs into issues with specific controllers.

Does not work on 32-bit devices since it requires SMAPI.
I hope this gets fixed at some point... next decade perhaps?

Thanks for the work and for sharing it! I just tested it on my Retroid Pocket G2.

It works, but it is more resource hungry, I quickly notice the fan going more active.
Device provided temp: 38°C native vs 70°C SMAPI
CPU usage: ~22% native vs ~29% SMAPI

Other than that, there are another inconvenience of having to copy the save from the native app to the SMAPI, and it's a bit tricky to do this kind of copy in Android. And so no Google PlayStore cloud saves.

The current controller support has many annoyances, but I was able to play 60h in. But now as I was going to go more often to the desert skull cave, some people recommended using the slingshot+bombs. Idk what is the normal behavior of the slingshot on a switch or xbox, but on the controller gamepad it is really bad. I hold the west-button (X/Y) + if I use the d-pad, it just aims, if I use the left stick, it keeps shooting, and at the opposite direction, spending the munition really quickly.

I was able to copy my files to SMAPI, and the slingshot has a similar behavior, but it also adds another annoyance: I can't walk with the slingshot selected. The button to shoot is the north-button, and it behaves very similar to the native app.

Note that I'm not sure on the ideal behavior for the slingshot that would be agreed upon by most, but I kind of think something like: walk with the left stick and aim with the right stick? idk about the automatic shooting... pressing a button while using the right stick would be difficult, that makes me think it would be better to press R2 (or R1, as I find the R2 a bit uncomfortable on the Retroid),.. but the R1/R2 are already mapped to move the cursor in the inventory bar, but maybe set to when the right stick is being used to cancel the original R1/R2 navigation.

Another note is that on the native game, the inventory bar is shown on the left, while on SMAPI it is on the bottom. (its just a matter of getting used to)

Overall, the higher device temperature means shorter battery life, and I don't see any gain with the slingshot control, so I will stick with native game for now, and I hope someday ConcernedApe improves the gamepad support.
