I knock on Leah’s door, as she answers I blurt out “I need someone to talk to”
“Of course Fey, come in” she leads me in and we hug. “what’s up?” I sit on her bed as she finishes cleaning up a project she had been working on. So I tell Leah of how I’ve been feeling about Abigail and how I
like, like her but it can't go anywhere and I can’t shake how it’s all effecting me but I want to.
A look I don’t recognize crosses Leah’s face then she nods thoughtfully, “I don’t blame you. She
is kinda up your alley. She’s smart, has a lot to say and the way she sees the world is really unique. Sometimes she’ll hang out with Ell and I, She just flows with the conversation naturally. It seems like she knows things
beyond her age. She’s open minded and sharp. Fey you are young at heart, you alway have been. Of
course she has caught your eye”
She stops to put some thought into what she is about to say, “And as far as what she said…Her and Sebastian…” I don’t realize it but my lip is petulantly curling until Leah gives me a look like - Fey hold it together.
“They had a teenage on and off again thing, from what I could pick up on, fueled with hormones and emotions…I don’t know how serious it is now. It’s a very small playing field here, so of course they have a connection. They both like the darker things of life, they enjoy the rain and the frogs, they play music together. In a small town it’s hard to have a connection that doesn’t lead to more when you’re young”
I nod in agreement, I mean I remember being a bit younger. But I make my petulant face anyway. “Maybe she does like you, Maybe you have caught
her eye. I wouldn't blame her either” Leah says, “I mean you don’t know. Stop overthinking it Fey.” She gives me a look that I have received on many occasion for overthinking. I smile “You’re right, you are most assuredly right.” I breathe out a huge sigh. Leah as always been good at helping me keep a calm head.
“Lets open a bottle. What do you say?” Leah says retrieving some wine glasses and a bottle from a cabinet.
“Oh Goddess, of all things artisanal please bless me with your Stardew red ” I say then ask “So is there anyone you have
your eye on?”
“You know there are not a lot of
my types around. Lots of younger ladies and ladies already attached.”
“It’s too bad Mayor Lewie has Marnie.” I say grinning at Leah, she turns red and glares at me “
She’s not my type!”
"Hhhmm" I pretend think “A- of the earth, animal loving, easy-going, wilderness worshipping, kind hearted older brunette… not your type….” I raise an eyebrow at her.
“Shut up Fey” she punches me oh-so lightly on the shoulder. “Beside I am in love with my art, Pelican Town and Stardew Valley right now.”
We sip wine and talk about our perfect partners and what sorts of things melt our hearts. After a few glasses we get comfortably quiet sitting on the bed. I’m looking around the room at Leah’s art. It’s really cool, I’ve always been proud of her for following her heart in art. I’m basking in thoughts of her when Leah turns to me and says,
“You know” she pauses “I kinda have wondered if
we could ever work.” Her cheeks are flushed from the wine and I find myself wanting to kiss her. A soft smile plays on my lips as I try to think of a coherent response. And before I can answer she leans in and kisses
me. I reciprocate. We shift closer together but I break the kiss, “This is the just the wine. We may not want to…” she kisses me again “Fey, just kiss me…” Leah says breathless And I do. After a time we stop and Leah looks at me her cheeks pink, her violet eyes sparkling. I blush myself. “Will you hold me tonight?” I ask her, she nods looking content. I stay the night but nothing heated happens. I find comfort in her warmth and sweet smell. She smells like sun dried quilts, turps, paint and canvas. Later that night half awake I bury my face into her auburn hair as I drift back to sleep I just barely remember purple and black in my dreams.
I leave before Leah wakes. I kiss her on the cheek softly as I go. I do have a farm to take care of after all. I leave a note “Please come by later, we can have dinner at my place” I sign it with a heart, it feels good to know I’ll see her later and already the purple is fading into wisps of memory.
I get to my farm, water my seeds and harvest a few delicious earth treasures. I work on clearing up the debris around. My thoughts are planning dinner for Leah and I later. She loves artisanal foods. I’ll have to go see what Gus has in the way of healthy foods. I procure some salads, beers and get back to Love Life farm. Leah is already there, sitting on my front steps.
I get caught up in Leah, my farm and the spring air, putting any other thoughts on the back burner.
