Farmer
"The Prismatic Shard" is a very nice tip and foreshadowing. consciously and unconsciously
It was unconscious. I was looking for something that the SDV Universe in general would see as rare, cool and trendy. I was thinking everyone in the SDV universe has probably heard of a prismatic shard, even if they don't believe that they are real. So it would bring that sort of trendy myth feel to the hostel.
And as I said, really like the connection to Leah and Elliott, that's such a good angle to come to Pelican Town as you can use them as either exposition or integration into the town, so many opportunities. Such a great idea that never would have occurred to me. Jealous!
In a way kinda strategically lazy? Also I knew I wouldn't be dating them so I wanted to establish a best friendship because I like both characters and they both have ties to the Zuu (Zuzu City). It worked out well with the things you mentioned too. unintentional laziness.

FairyRing

Farmer
It's the biggest crossover event of the last five minutes! Fairy Ring on Beachy Keen farm. Will this be the end of our blue skinned farmer? Read on to find out.

Fairy Ring is foraging “My favorite part of farming is the foraging.” She chuckles to herself over the line, that’s when her keen scrounging sense sees something shiny in the dirt.
“Oo shiny,” She says out loud. She approaches to pick it up and notices it looks like an omni geode + a warp totem. The body of the totem is glittery in the sunlight and it’s little skirt is pink? It’s a very enticing looking totem. As she bends over, and gets closer, the air around the totem crackles but before she can react it activates and sucks her away.

Fairy Ring comes to, flat on her back and staring up at the night sky.
“Uuuuh what did I drink and/or consume that landed me here” She thinks, sitting up. She looks around and it’s the weirdest thing, it’s a familiar scene but not?

It’s a beach farm with a cleverly laid path that seems to surround the whole beach farm property. It’s done nicely and she finds herself a little jealous until it dawns on her…

“I am on a different farm!! Not Love life Farm! This is… really really weird. Did Rasmodious do this?! He does do jerky things like this.
Well at least it’s late and it seems like no one is around. She looks around trying to be small, shrinking into her own shoulders. Trying to channel her inner ninja.
Is there another farmer here?? Fairy Ring feels her brain lag a little, like when a computer can’t load all it’s mods. How is this possible she thinks to herself.
Stuck in brain fog for a minute processing, Fairy Ring shakes her head and decides she might as well explore.
She starts but doesn’t know where to start. What if I cause some sort of rip in space time thingy? Eep.
Okay maybe I’ll sneak around like when I used to stalk Abby to give her stuff.
She decides to walk the farm, it seems the safest thing right now, So she starts walking around the stone path. The beach air is salty and smells of seaweed. It’s a nice change from the sage and pine she is used to.
She finds a sign— Beachy K… It’s started but not finished and its just laying on the ground happily in a nest of grass. Fairy Ring gently places the sign back.

Okay Beachy K farm lets have a look. As she walks her eyes bug out as she takes in the different decorations. This must have taken HOURS! I can barely pet my animals and harvest my green house. Super powers maybe? Lots of espresso? This feels like a race course of sorts. It would be fun to ride Nutley on it! I love the way these ponds are on either side of the path I say outloud to myself. It’s a calm farm and Fairy Ring is enjoying the sound of the waves when she sees it…

A slime hutch! She checks to make sure she is wearing her Slime charmer ring, yes, yes she is.
She enters the other farmers Slime hutch. Should I feel dirty? She ponders this as she looks up and notices something different.
On the back wall of the hutch are posters of four men called Duh-Ran Duh-Ran. “What kind of slimes are these?” She looks down to take a closer look. These slimes look kinda like tiger slimes but not? She walks herself backwards out of the hutch keeping a careful eye on the slimes, worried they were some sort of OP hybrid slimes. She gets out and starts breathing again. Wow…this is a really magical farm.

Fairy Ring continues her tour. “I would never have thought to use those little ships like that!” She says to herself walking past a place on the path near the water where the farmer had placed a bunch of the little ships form the furniture catalogue.
As she finishes the walk around the property she ends up at the farmhouse. She hadn't noticed but the sun was coming up now.

I wonder why I am here? Hmm, another Abby? She perks up and grins at the thought and looks around almost like Abby would appear too. As her gaze pans the horizon she notices the shiny, curly, blonde hair of Haley and a deluxe pirate hat clad person coming forth from the Farmhouse. Fairy Ring has just enough time for her eyes to go wide, when the tingle and pop grab her by the middle of her spine. Pulling her back to her farm.

She wakes in the early morning face down in the dirt. Yum, good thing I’m a farmer and “like” the taste of dirt… she spits, well mud now. She gets up in time to see Abigail coming out of Love Life farmhouse.
“You don’t have to eat mud Goon, I made Spicy Eel for breakfast.”

There’s no place like home.

Yayyy! Existential crossover! And finding an incomplete sign in the farm is just perfect as the first and only signs ever made were in Beachy Keen for the Fish Ponds. And yes I've had Fish Ponds before but signs, meh whatever.

Hmmm, I wonder what Farmer Fairy Ring may have accidentally and unknowingly left behind on Beachy K farm which Farmer Bobbi might find at a future time...

The thing about signs is I change them everytime I walk by them..."oh great now there is a watering can sign where my dino egg sign was! Friggin darn it now it's a clay sign where my squid pond is!"

As a non-sign user, that particular proble—, ermmm, feature of signs had never occurred to me. On my Fish Ponds I think most of the signs are physically blocked so I haven't accidentally changed them to Prismatic Shards, Galaxy Swords, or Slime. Of course completely unplanned as no brain need apply, just serendipity once again favoring the lazy.

I noticed that your fish signs were actually on the ponds and I thought "if I still used signs maybe I'd possibly do that."

This is really imaginative. Excellent job, FairyRing. Keep that totem and maybe you can grab a front row seat at the ostrich race.

2. the arrival
warning: swearing, alcohol consumption

I arrive by bus to Pelican Town and Robin the local carpenter meets me at the bus stop. She’s quick to smile and a ginger, two things that catch my eye. I dispiritedly notice she has a wedding ring with a blue shell engraved on it that seems to match an iridescent blue shell pendant around her neck. I mentally slap myself for already ogling the one local lady I’ve met. She’s friendly and informs me she’ll lead the way to my farm. When we get there Mayor Lewis is waiting. I stifle a giggle as I am reminded of a mustachioed video game hero from by-gone days of childhood. A… plumber that stomps on mushrooms and turtles?? I remember it being frustrating and could never finish the game. Oops, Better focus up, what is being said might be important. Focus on…?

Being a farmer?!? I’m a farmer now. I get a little dizzy at the thought. Fleeting doubt pokes me, swirling what-ifs.
“Grampy left this farm to me for a reason. He had confidence in me and so shall I.” When I used to spend time with Grampy on and off throughout my life, we got along well, we always seemed to share an “otherness”. So I know that this is all part of something good.

Mayor Lewis and Robin are like a comedic team while talking about my grandfather’s farm and some local details. They banter back and forth and I’m only half listening as I look around at the overgrown land. I perk up and listen.
Eep! Apparently everyone is interested in meeting me. I guess in a small town its quite a ruckus to get a new person around. Robin has me chuckling to myself quite a bit, with her retorts to Mayor Lewis, she’s feisty. I find myself taking her side rather than the Mayor's.
They bid me farewell and off they go. Mayor Lewis had a drop box or a “bin” one might say, installed on my property. I can put things I forage, find, grow, or even make into the bin and Lewie will come get them every night and I’ll get the payment! I’ve died and gone to Stardew Valley!

So here I am alone on my Farm. I look around, a big smile spreads across my face and I howl and whoop, it’s joyous. It feels so good to just let it out. In the city it’s like you have to hold all the magic in. Then I start laughing and that becomes hysterical laughing as I fall to the ground. Who gets the chance to start a new life? Ok, Maybe I am a little delirious from the trip and hasty move. I plop myself on the front steps of my little house. Closing my eyes, grinning and tired I don’t know how long I sit there just enjoying the natural sounds of the nearby forest and overgrown land.

I am snapped back to, by familiar voices and look up to see Leah and Elliot walking up the path toward my house.

Dusk is dusking and I am so happy to see them that I holler “Woohoo!”, They laugh and wave and pick up the pace. I run and hug Leah who has a stuffed tote around an elbow. She laughs and says, “I’ve missed that!” Elliot is smiling his most charming smile, I turn to him and hug his much taller frame, he too has a tote. We walk back to my new/used little farmhouse, arms around each other, me in the middle. I invite them in, we are laughing and we're all beaming. I’m so happy to see them. They plop the groceries on the table, then they reveal the beer and wine. “Ready to really catch up?” Says Elliot holding up the wine. “Hell yes!” I reply. As I search to see if my new little house even has anything to drink out of. Thankfully it does.

We drink, eat and talk about the past few years. They tell me all about the Pelican Town people. They sound like a good group and both say they whole heartedly accept the Pelican Town customs and love the ways of life here.
They explain a mysteriously cryptic ritual for marriage that requires what sounds like a lot of work. Also before marriage a bouquet must be procured and given to said romantic interest. Doesn’t sound like something I’ll be doing anytime soon.

Elliot was able to get a little hut right on the beach perfect for a hermetic writing bachelor who plays the piano to unwind.

Leah’s house is nestled in the forest next to a river, She’s in love with the area and won’t stop talking about how the water sounds by her house, how cool and refreshing it is, how there is so much to forage all around the valley especially in CinderSap Woods, the forest nearest her house.

I’m very glad to hear that they have had exceptional times to create. Both also have some money saved from other artistic endeavors, so they are able to live without too much struggle.

They tell me about Pierre the local merchant, how he’s kind of a workaholic and his green haired wife Caroline who is a bit younger, she seems to end up alone a lot due to his strive for more g. Pierre and Caroline have a daughter in college who helps around the shop.
We all love catching up, I fill them in on my Joja-centric life without them and quickly change the subject and encourage more talk about the locals. So conspiratorially they tell me that they suspect something is going on between Marnie (the local rancher) and Mayor Lewis. “It’s a secret? That everyone knows about?” I ask “why is it a secret then?”

“We think,” Leah answers “that Mayor Lewis doesn’t think it will look good, him being in office.”

“Hmmm that’s interesting” I state with a yawn and a roll of my eyes at the thought of Mayor Plumber being so caught up in his position in such a small town that he’d live a life of love in secret. But we are all feeling sleepy and Elliot looks about ready to pass out so they bid me adieu and stumble off to their different quaint little homes.

I pass out into my own quaint bed. Feeling like I could explode with happiness.

3.Things start.:abigail:
warning: swearing, alcohol consumption

I wake to the sun beaming in my face and hear a rooster.
It’s my first morning, my first year on the my farm, it’s spring and alive.
I stumble out of bed and rifle through the tote that Leah left and find coffee with a French Press. I kiss the coffee, thanking Leah. "Oh thank thee Goddess of all things delish and artisanal.” They set me up for a couple of days. I grin to myself thinking about my best friends and how much I love them. I drink my coffee, walk out my front door and see that I have mail sticking out of my mailbox. Some turnip seeds to start me off, from Mayor Lewis, turnips? Do I like turnips? I thought they were poisonous. And an advertisement for Pierre’s. Ads here too?
Grampy left me all the tools I need for farming. Simple Hoe, watering can, pickaxe, axe and… damn, it’s tiring being a farmer. After pick-axing like one rock I’m exhausted and decide to take a gentle walk into town.
I introduce myself when I see someone new. Everyone is pretty friendly. This one guy was kinda rude but I don’t care, we all have our things.

At Pierre’s I meet Caroline and their daughter Abigail. Right away I notice something about her. She is almost glowing but in the way a blacklight “glows” she feels different to me, she has that otherness about her. Her hair is violet, not dyed, I can tell it is naturally purple I don’t know how, I just do. Her eyes are blue-green and filled with intensity. She has mostly dark colors on, which look very nice against her pale skin, a long blue vest over a V-neck gray shirt. Torn, black jeans. Her boots are brown, badass and nicely worn-in, they seem to say, “I can kick your ass, So I dare you to mess with me". A cute little bow finishes the look. Wait a bow? And I like it? Yeah I like it. Her overall “ness” is striking, she looks tough but somehow still cute. I mentally slap myself again as I turn and make like I’m busy with a box of oatmeal. How much is this? Oh, full of fiber and oats.

I don’t blend in as well as I thought because Little miss purple head walks over to me, raises an eyebrow, and pokes me in the chest with her black-nailed finger “So you’ve moved into that old farm?? That’s too bad, I used to like exploring there alone.” She looks perturbed. I’m perturbed that she’s perturbed, I push her finger off my chest and retort “Oh so you were trespassing?” I raise my eyebrow back and flare a nostril. We glare at each other but before she burns a hole in my face, I smile what I think is a charming smile,“but you’re more than welcome to still explore it, I don’t intend on completely clearing it away. I’m not a Joja mart you know.”
I hold my hands up and say: “and besides these gamer/city hands aren’t used to farm life yet.” Abigail’s eyes light up slightly but still suspicious, she asks “You play video games? Do you play Journey of the Prairie King?“
“I have played it,” I reply “but I like simulation games and RPGs.” She smiles and seems to “glow” more.
“I guess You’re not all that bad.” With that glowing smile and bratty line, somehow I think I’m smitten.
As I walk home to Love Life farm. I have a conversation in my head and it goes something like this:
“She’s only like what 20? Barely? What the Yoba am I thinking? I’m a bit older than her and I am not sure what her whole deal is…
But I can’t shake her smile, it keeps floating back around into my thoughts even as I mentally reprimand myself.
You just got here in this amazing town, you will not screw it up by impulsively chasing some younger goth/gamer girl. Her Dad is the town merchant and who knows what else is going on! Fairy Ring Dancer (Thanks Mom and Dad as if I wasn’t weird enough without the name) focus on your farm. I decide to just stay on my farm and work hard. I have to just play it close to home. Keep my head down. I sigh, I’m not good at keeping my head down. I have blue skin.

I walk up to Love Life farm kicking stones. I huff and kick one rock particularly hard. I look up and see Leah and Elliot sitting on the front steps.
They are both sipping a beverage and I grin. “Have one of those for a thirsty farmer?” Elliot hands me a beer and the bottle opener and I join them. “How was your first day Farmer Fairy Ring?” Leah asks.
“Tiring, I thought I was in better shape than this.” I reply sagging in exhaustion and shame. “Fey, you’ll get there.” Leah says putting a hand on my knee and leaning against me. “it just takes time and patience.” Elliot moves up a step to sit besides me and puts an arm around my shoulders. “You’re going to do great things here. I know it.” He gives me his twinkling smile and I swoon platonically, just a bit. He continues “This place, this life has been procured especially for you.” He gently puts his hand on my shoulder. I smile filled with warm fuzzies.

“Am I interrupting something?” We all turn our heads to see Abigail standing there. My heart skips a beat, my breath catches in my throat, mental slap, I start turning red. Luckily Leah Chimes in with
“Well, Hi Abby”
“Hello Ms. Abigail” says Elliot “Come, join us.”
She looks at me and says, “Hi Farmer, I decided to take you up on your invitation” When she says farmer she raises an eyebrow and smirks, hidden in there is some sort of challenge that makes me feel very wiggly.
I stand and even with my blue skin I know my cheeks are burning pink. Pushing past the pink I grandly say, “Welcome Fair Maiden, to my Queendom!” And I bow before her and wave her to have a seat.
She rolls her eyes but chuckles. She sits between Leah and Elliot on the bottom step, I am sitting on the step above them kinda above Elliot with Abigail below to my right. I take a huge swig of my beer.
Elliot asks “How are you Maiden Abigail?”
As she starts to answer she moves up on the step next to me “Im doing ok I guess, Mom and Dad have been hounding me to do my online courses but I hate it. Dad insists that I study business and other boring business related classes”
Did she just slide a little closer? I must be reading into it.
Dang it, I had just decided to not follow this road and she shows up on my doorstep, sitting next to me smelling… so intoxicating.
Leah and Elliot don’t seem to notice so I decide to just play it cool. I lean back onto the step behind me and start letting my beer buzz take over. I grin. Leah looks up at me “what is that grin for?”
“I am just feeling good.” I say closing my eyes.
“Do you mind if I have a drink?” I hear Abigail say.
“Of course not” says Elliot opening a beer and handing it to her.
I turn to Abigail “if you could study what you want, what would you study?”
She thinks for a minute and answers with a light in her eyes “The supernatural and occult, anything to do with all things creepy and spoooooky. There is so much out there we don’t know about. Mom doesn’t like that I am into “dark” stuff though.” She goes quiet and looks down at her beer, not so much sad but frustrated.
“Without the dark we wouldn’t have the light.” I say, “We need both of them for either to make sense.” Where did that come from? I feel like a pseudo guru for saying it.
“Deep thoughts with Fey.” Elliot says as he finishes his beer. “And with that, I’m off. An idea just blossomed that I must get to paper” He dusts off his bum, straightens his overcoat and heads off, already deep in thought.
Leah finishes her drink and gets up “Okay I guess I’ll go too, do you need company home Abigail? I don’t mind…”
“Nah, I know this valley like the back of my hand, I’ll be fine. Thanks.” Leah gives me a hug and heads off. Abigail next to me sips her beer. I feel awkward not sure of what to say. But Abigail seems content to sit in silence so I take a clue and do the same. I finish my beer. My stomach rumbles, I’m hungry all of a sudden.
“Hey, are you hungry?” I ask Abigail “I’m sure I have something.” Abigail looks at me and damnit if I my heart doesn’t skip a beat again. What the heck, how does this keep happening? It’s not like I haven’t been with other people. I am not newly dating and looking. Even as I think this, I am appreciating her bright green-blue eyes.
“No, I ate dinner before I came.” Her response snaps me into the moment.
“Uh, So did anything inspire your visit?” I ask “NotthatImind, I mean I did say you’re welcome to come and explore…and you still are welcome… to come… really I don’t mind if you want to explore.” I realize I’m rambling and shut up.
Abigail shrugs “I Just wanted to check it out. Wanted to be sure you really didn’t clear everything away. After all I need somewhere to come explore.”
I look up at the gorgeous land around me and grin “This land is so amazing, I don’t really want to take away its natural aesthetic. I’ll do my best to keep it beautifully overgrown.” I feel like I’m beaming at the forest around me.
I turn to look at Abigail and she turned away quickly. Had she been staring at me? Her cheeks appear red and did she just say?? “somewhere to come and explore” implying she’d be back? I get a little goofy in the head at this and the world starts to spin.
Abigail cuts my spin short as she stands up and takes a huge chug of beer and quickly says, “Well I’dbettergo, okseeya,I’mgoingtotakethisfortheroad.” She holds up her beer and walks off.
I sit, a little downcast as I watch her quickly disappear down the path.
Was that weird or was it just me? Why did she get so nervous? I sigh big and let my mind wander around ideas of purple hair. I do like her, I think I may even like, like her. She has me captivated but there is still the issue of if… if I’m her “type”.
Sigh, so I’ll be her friend and try to behave.
I finish my beer and collapse into bed.

This place needs a forum upgrade.

I should be able to add as many  as I darn well please. Yer not the bossa me!

damn, it’s tiring being a farmer. After pick-axing like one rock I’m exhausted and decide to take a gentle walk into town.
Overextending yourself is amateurish. It's important to pace yourself.

...and pokes me in the chest with her black-nailed finger...
Abby's a poker. There's no interpretation on this one. It just is.

Important data! Will forget ASAP. Don't take it the wrong way, it's just physiological.
