cant get further

I'm stuck on Forest Farm so had to close it.

Silo has run out of hay and there's no grass left on farm to cut to make more...would happen on a Tuesday so of course Marnie is not behind the counter! Cutting grass outside of the farm has not added anything to the silo.

Also went down mine to get further to get iron ore and on level 19 had busted every rock round to bottom front and there was no ladder to level 20...I'm guessing it's at the other side of the huge boulder thats in my way that needs the iron axe! ..so how am I meant to get further down to get the iron ore to upgrade the axe?

All boulders in the mine are breakable with the normal pickaxe, they are not like the ones on the farm. You just have to hit them several times.

As for the hay, I think that happened to everyone the first time they played. The good thing is the animals won't starve, they'll just be grumpy until you get them food so you won't have eggs or milk.

You should have gotten enough Copper ore on Mines Level 2 and lower to make 5 Copper Bars and then have Clint upgrade your pickaxe. But you can also reload the level (yes from Level 15, sorry!) and the configuration will change, letting you get past that spot.

Edit: Whoop! what Ereo said, you can break it with about 9 picks at it. The game lets you know when your pick isn't strong enough to break something at all and if it doesn't give you this message, keep hacking away!

And the Animals can wait from Monday 'til Wednesday, mine sure have many times, sigh...

I enjoy planting large swathes of Wheat. As well as getting the Wheat crops, you also harvest Hay from it. You have to manually put it in the silo, but helps give you a good bumper crop of Hay, and unlike harvesting grass, you still get the Hay even if the silo is full, allowing you to stash it somewhere for later use.

Don't worry about your animals, they only need hay to produce eggs/milk, not to survive. They can live on weeds and treebark just fine, although they are going to be grumpy about it. Buy some hay from Marnie when you want to get milk / eggs, and ignore it otherwise.

Also consider maybe you have too many animals? You don't need lots, and there's no requirement to fill up the barn / coop up to 12 animals. If you can feed 3 chicken, 1 duck and 1 bunny comfortably, stick with that for now.

When going to the mines, check the spiritual forecast on TV! When the spirits are displeased, it's harder to find the ladder down. If they are happy, it's easier.

Thanks...its only the second upgrade so 4 chickens and 4 ducks. ..haven't got bunnies available yet ,won't be getting anymore of them but was thinking of adding goats ..though don't have a barn yet on this farm!

Forgot about getting hay from wheat!... how many days will that take??? ...gonna work out expensive if no more grass is going to grow already? (in spring yr2)

I thought the rock was like the big ones as it covered the whole path and couldn't even slide through between the wall and the rock! ...my energy was really low too with them flying things starting to swarm me so had to get out quick! The axe has had the copper upgrade.

It has been easier to get copper and iron on the 4 corners farm even with that little bit of rocks available on the farm. also seems to be loads more grass there...havent finished clearing the last 2 area's yet. Though the hardwood stumps don't seem to grow back like they do on Forest Farm?

in FF I was wanting the iron wood axe to get hardwood needed to buy an horse next!!

Pierre has an item called "Grass Starter". It costs 100 gold, but if you place it, grass will grow out of it eventually and fill the area (you will have to wait of course).

When you cut down grass for feed, always leave some tufts here and there so it has a chance to grow out again.

Wheat grows in only 4 days, it's just about the fastest thing in the game, however it's a Summer and Fall crop only. One thing to do for ridiculous amounts of Hay is to plant Grass Starter on Winter 28 and just see how nuts the Grass grows the next day. It's unclear if it's a bug or a feature but the grass expands exponentially. But only on that single day transition. Otherwise Grass Starter grows and spreads like the regular Grass patches that randomly pop up on your Farm. Slow but steady.

Remember when Scything Grass on your farm only to thin it, not clear it out! Leaving some Grass behind will allow it to grow back into the holes faster and you can Scythe every 3 or 4 days to get lots of Hay.

ah thanks I'll try and remember that trick when I get to winter again! .... and will apply the scything trick to the other farm when I get onto clearing the last 2 areas. unfortunately I've already cleared all the grass except for that that stays there (on left side) on Forest Farm!

So I'm just gonna have to buy hay now until the grass starter grows and I can start planting wheat??? ..been using the eggs to make mayo and sell!

If you plant a couple of grass starters and put some fenceposts into them, they can spread, but the animals can't eat the starter. Then you can let your animals out, they will eat the grass that spread from the starters. I still recommend buying some hay from Marnie. It costs less than the mayo gets you.

They can't eat the starter at all or can't eat it when you put a fence post on it?

I love to put seasonal decor in my pasture- you know the pots of flower. As a bonus, it looks like wild flowers are growing on your farm.

But, can I give you a piece of unsolicited advice? The game really won’t punish you for doing the wrong thing; even items you lose when “dying” in the mines can be recovered or replaced. But it does reward experimentation. Fish in that weird spot, wear those staircases, bomb that rock, place that vegetable in a keg. The only way to mess up is not to make a mistake or two.

Enjoy the game!

Yeah i often say to newer players that there really isn't a wrong way to play the game, and there really is no "losing" (even your evaluation can be redone eventually). Even the best weapons in the game can be recovered if you happen to lose them while in combat, and there are ways to "undo" almost every aspect of the game if you change your mind later, with a few minor exceptions (pet, gender, etc).

I like to create a pasture of grass for my animals. I also let grass grow in other various spots to periodically cut down for hay. And during the winter, I do my best to get my silos filled the last day of fall so that it lasts me for a while. If cutting down all the grass doesn't do it, I buy more from Marnie on the first day I'm able to.

I moved onto other game as was getting frustrated with FF ... Kenny has worked his little virtual butt off raising 40,000 and got Pam her bus back! I'm deciding whether to save up for the bridge to the quarry next or the greenhouse on that game when I go back to it.

Now I'm getting some more ideas for re-arranging the Forest Farm and what I'm gonna do to tackle the jumino's task I'll go back to Forest Farm and see where I can fit a barn in for a couple of cows (didn't realise you could sell animals too later), keep a couple..until can afford the upgrade to get goats and keep a chest full of cows milk...I may keep one cow back.

I do find it helps having 2 games on the go. I tend to get frustrated quickly in video games so usually if I got to a point I was stuck (or felt I was) the game would get swapped for another and I wouldn't go back to it for months. If I did eventually go back to it and still couldn't do it it would get traded in (usually always buy a physical version for this reason).

It really helps me that I can switch to the other save file without abandoning the game altogether and do a goal on the other game instead then go back to the other one when I feel I've got more patience! (have autism/adhd..'having patience' is challenging - some days more than others!!).... I think this game may last!

I too play several farms in parallele, each one with its own objectives/vibes. That's indeed a good idea to move to one to another depending on your mood or when you feel the urge to.

I also find that this is interesting because when testing (successfully) something on a farm, it is possible to also test it soon on the other farms to see if it works there.

The fences are really annoying me one minute they're fine then they're broken and I waste days having to replace about 10 fences to keep the animals off the crops. I have alot of fencing on the Forest Farm as there's no natural partitions like on 4 corners farm where you only need a small area of fencing place a gate on one quarter for them.
