I've set up my first farm! on day 4...couple of questions

Firstly I picked a cat as pet and haven't seen it yet!! where do I find it??? (wished I'd picked the dog now but they didn't have a black one!)

Secondly an exclamation mark has appeared on the top right of screen just under where it shows how much money I have...what does it mean???
As LRangerR said, it will come, you don't get your Cat until you reach a certain very early game milestone. Cherish this time where you can just hop into bed whenever you want. Even at 1:50PM without passing out. Or open that chest whenever that strikes your fancy. Because Cat is a Boss-level adversary built in to the game which must be defeated by designing a Cat-proof Farm where you can reach all your equipment from two sides, neutralizing Cat's secret Weapon:

Nap.

Am i the only one who doesn't get angry at my pets for being in the way?

That being said, sometimes i do wish there was a Harvest Moon-type mechanic where you could pick it up. I used to love walking around the farm just carrying my dog.

-edit: Btw, does anyone know what happens if you tell Marnie no?

I hate my cat with a burning passion.
If I could poof it like children in SDV I would do so in a heartbeat.

I routinely find myself aggravated at the furry feline somehow perpetually underfoot. However, I’ve not been able to ever bring myself to do that which you’re inquiring about. I feel that doing so would likely be a Catastrophe. ;-)

If you say no, she goes away without giving you the pet. No consequences except you don't have a pet. which costs you one point in the evaluation

I know, I just didn't realize it was so bad when I got it. I sincerely wish I hadn't.

Btw, does anyone know what happens ...?
As I quazi-militant anti-pet person (I hope that doesn't mean I am pure evil), I wonder what happens if you do the opposite. I admit my heart does a little cry every time, though. Marnie is quite sweet about the whole thing, but walks away leaving me the impression that I am not quite right in the heart.

Just wait for it ^^
A woman turned up at my door with a cat saying it was a stray did I want to adopt it!... thought I just started with one when I selected it!

Think I might have found that black blob thing...I thought it was the cat at night sleeping behind my storage bin, tried to stroke it ...it just said zzzzz so left it to sleep outside, went into house to go to bed and the cat was on the bed!!! ..so not sure what's sleeping behind my storage bin at night!!

I've met everyone, given my first gift (some horse radish to Linus...he was thrilled!) but only just found the calendar outside the shop and missed 2 birthdays!...oops!

How do I meet the wizard??? His door is always locked but says you can hear someone inside???

How do I meet the wizard???
I guess we really aren't the same as hitting the wiki.

He will soon come to your rescue when you need some help. Congrats on meeting everybody and that success with Linus! Linus is a tough cookie, always thinking I'm going to mock him or tear down his tent. Geez, mister. Do I look like a mean boy?

Just like in real life, cats can teleport ;)

All I could add (and I think it's already been said) is don't rush through the beginning. So many people here (including myself) would kill to go through the first play through again when everything is new and exciting! Don't get ahead of yourself with your objectives.

As for the ongoing conversation about cats and pets, how could you not love your pet -they're so cute!? You have the ability to walk through them, it just takes a little FORCE and determination (but remember kids, never hurt animals) lol.

I thought you said you wanted to wait and explore the game in your own time :P

Don't worry, you chose cat so cat will come in time. Just be patient.
Yes I do but I thought the point of choosing a pet when starting up was because that's what came with the farm when you arrived!!!

I can't see how it can be a really quick game anyway the time it takes to make friends and to get enough money, wood etc for stuff! I'm not far off my first little chicken coop though. I wish it was more free though so could get the animals before the barns and choose which animals to get first. none are available at the ranch and the journal thing is telling me to build coop. As in 'Kenny's Farm' I would have wanted to pick cows first to gift milk to Penny as its one of her likes I think.

me and Linus are getting on well though! taken him a few gifts as I go to the mines and its shown the scene where he's raiding the bins and I help him out. Haven't made friends with any of the others yet though.

If I befriend Abigail do I get to play on her games console with her? .. can I buy one for my TV or do I have to marry her to get a games console in the game??

Think I need a cooker next cos there's a tv channel with recipes but I've got nothing to cook them on! ...been giving away (in the overnight bin thing) most of my food and crops to raise the money for the first coop and chickens!

One I've got my coop I might set up the other farm so I can switch between games doing a bit in each when I feel like it! Do I need to add another user name on home page of switch to get another save file or can I save them both under one name?

You can get cows as soon as you build a barn. The first couple of quests are meant to introduce you to the game mechanics, but you don't have to follow them. You can't get animals without building the appropriate buildings though, because where would they sleep?

Watching the TV for the recipes is good. You can upgrade your house to include a kitchen or get a cookout kit as a reward for skilling up.

There is a console in the saloon. You can play with Abigail only during an event. You can get your own console if you beat the game at the saloon.

You can have several files under the same user name. Just click "new" instead of "load" on the start screen. This will not delete your first file.

I don't think anybody said this was a quick game 😅

which game? there's 2 arcade games in there???

The cook out kit sounds interesting! ..as summer will be the next season!

Most cows and sheep round here live in the fields and only go back to the farm for milking or shearing! ..Thought I could fence off the grass areas to give them a field area to roam round in!

one more thing...how do I make the copper bits I find in the mine into copper bars to upgrade my axe?

Thanks!

Animals always go back into the barn/coop to sleep in Stardew. If you lock them out, they might be attacked by wild animals...

When you first found copper, Clint should have visited you with the blueprint for a furnace. You need to craft it in the crafting menu, and then you use coal and ore to make bars.
