How much money does Linus have?

Farmer Evie

Planter
In Stardew Valley, in the end, we all know the farmer is the supposed 'richest' person in Pelican Town. BUT before we get to that stage, who is the richest? There are three possible candidates:
1. Lewis. As already shown, Lewis is pretty dang rich because of taxes. He has a solid gold statue of himself. But his house is kinda sad not gonna lie.
2. Pierre. He runs a shop, and while Morris and Joja Co. is stealing his customers, he has the stash. No-one knows whats in it, but it better be something EXPENSIVE or money otherwise what the hell you stashing there bro? Band-aids? Toilet paper? Tissues? Photos? Your grey hairs that you tediously pull out every night before bed?
AND THEN> there is Linus.
3. Linus lives in a tent. But he isn't poor. He says multiple times that he chose to live in a tent. And his help wanted quests offer RIDONKULOUS amounts of gold upon completion. I always have a diamond handy for those quests.
But we may never know, because we don't have access to NPC bank accounts. :( Pop your guesses in for amounts of gold Pelican Town residents.
BONUS CANDIDATE: Krobus. Once you buy the return sceptre from him he has at least 2 million gold.

No-one knows whats in it, but it better be something EXPENSIVE or money otherwise what the hell you stashing there bro?
No. It's something he doesn't want his wife to know about and is clearly embarrassed when the farmer finds it. My guess would be something of an "adult" nature, like certain magazines, or maybe even toys. I think Pierre and Caroline should have a long talk about what they really want to do in their bedroom, since it's obvious to me that both of them are dissatisfied and might want to spice it up a bit.

Linus—yeah, that’s a possibility. We don’t really know or learn anything about him, so why not?
But what about the others? Pierre just complains about Joja. I don’t think he’s hiding money—more likely something terribly embarrassing. None of the town’s craftsmen or shop owners seem to have a steady income before the player arrives in town and delivers goods or orders upgrades. And Morris isn’t the owner of Joja either—he’s just the branch manager.
The only one with a consistently stable income is Gus. The saloon is always packed. So maybe him, too. And Emily’s and Haley’s parents—who, without wealth, can afford to be away for so long? And let’s not forget Mr. Qi. Casino owner, plus owner of high-end surveillance technology, his own currency, and an airplane...
Oh yeah, Krobus... Probably doesn't have a bank account, but he has a huge pile of gold in the farthest corner of the mutant bug cave, where he sleeps like a shadow dragon 🤓

#3 Traveling Merchant
I just got done giving her 33 million bucks (for Tea Sets)

#2 Clint
I've given him like a quarter billion bones for Gold Ore (for Crystalariums)

#1 Marnie
I consistently purchase Hay from her, over half a billion smackers worth so far, and plan on giving her much, much more in the coming decades. (For chickens)

I've often thought it was Linus myself. Chests full of stacks of Iridium bars 999 deep surround his tent. He has the air of the sort of person who can go live in the woods because he knows he has a stable base, of someone who can talk about 'the simple life" because he doesn't have the complexities to deal with. And he seems to want Leo for an apprentice/heir.

Let's talk about Leo. What are his stats? I mean you can die/pass out in the volcano and he's there. He can't quite haul you out himself but he's there to summon the parrots to do so. And when he gets to the mainland? Well you can have full mastery and Lewis will still chide you about becoming a well rounded citizen, but Leo notes that Lewis says he's well on his way to becoming a well rounded citizen.

Linus's heir apparent indeed!

Whoops I forgot about Qi... And there are a lot of theories that Emily and Haley's parents are spies. Gus would have a lot of money, but unlike Linus he spends it on more supplies for the saloon.

The wizard. i purchased 40,000,000G worth of buildings and warp totems off of him, and since he has the power to transmute, he can turn copper into solid iridium, and prob sells it to clint.

Oh my god, clint! So much ore bought off of him this year.

I don't think it depends on the NPC's, fulfilling anyone's request for a diamond will give you 2 something thousand g if I'm not mistaken...

There's an interesting line from Linus, if you gift him the treasure chest, he'll say: “No, thank you. I have no desire for money... In fact, I think it's cursed.”
It could be just his philosophy after living mostly without it for a while, or personal experience in what it can do to someone, maybe from having 'too much' money.

Can we really judge how much money PT's residentd have by how much we buy from them? They don't seem to notice. For example, I can buy stacks or muscle remedy and energy tonics from Harvey, and he'll still say he should try to get patiens from neighbouring towns.

Well, but that could also be boredom...

What does spice it up a bit mean?

Maybe, but I just think they're wealthy.

Probably, yeah. And since Pierre seems to increase his prices every now and then, there's no way to safe money 🤷🏻‍♀️
But if you noticed Emily is the only one that stays after hours we go Costco goes up to his house house in his room so maybe she’s the one who buys supplies you know when people work they have certain and workers that go and buy supplies for the store and supply the store stuff so maybe he has other people behind the scenes that do that and he puts all the money aside his entire store/home is even bigger than Louis’s maybe

To try something they don't usually do.

If I were to compare making love to cooking... if you keep on making and eating one dish the same way, it can get boring and taste bland. Adding some spices or changing the spices involved in cooking it, makes it taste new and exciting.
Yeah, I think their relationship is frozen.

Gus goes to Pierre's in the mornings, presumably to buy supplies for the day. Emily closes.

Pierre's house has the shrine of Yoba in it, something that Caroline is very careful to tell you the they did not choose. Th property may have even been discounted since they have to host worshipper on Sunday mornings.

Yeah i could swear linus is rich af. also the wizard yeah. like bro he got so much fancy stuff.

I mean the answer is kind of obvious, the richest person in stardew valley is Mr. Qi. After all the house always wins and surely makes a good amount of money from is casino job if allows him to have cameras through the valley and track all your information. Plus he no longer trades in cash, he has to use gems, which surely are worth a lot of money, as a trading coin. Also he ticks a lot of rich people boxes, he has weirdly coloured skin (that is definitely not normal), as occupations that are not legal (yet he is fine), he has private security, owns property on a island in the tropics (I mean the farmer also does but besides us he is the only one) and he does not fear the authorities since he can end up killing the farmer.

So I would say Mr. Qi is the richest guy in the valley.

I mean the farmer also [owns property on an island in the tropics] but besides us he is the only one. . .
But do we, really? The mainland farm was deeded to us, but the GI farm? We happen upon it, we clean it up, and if we grow examples of the right crops in the right order, the Gourmand Frog gives us leave to use it. So we don't own it, exactly.

My impression is that the land is owned by the Gourmand Frog who is happy not to have it growing crops of weeds as he self medicates the arthritis that keeps him from working the land as he did in his youth.

He could demand a land use fee if he wished.
But he won't.
