Angler Fish perfect catch challenge bait

I'm on a quest to catch every legendary fish 3 times iridium quality with the challenge bait. I already did the crimson fish now I'm trying to get the angler fish. after e few attempts I got the perfect catch with the challenger bait but all 3 angler fish were gold star (I use 2 cork bobber's, I eat trout soup from willy's store and it was a unlucky day). I closed my game and tried it again i got the perfect catch again and they were still gold. does anyone know why I got gold star and not iridium like a perfect catch should be. is the angler fish maybe capped on gold star with the challenge bait. IDK someone PLS enlighten me

It's because they were silver star quality to begin with, because it's so close to land. If you want to get iridium anglers, you need to have a quality bobber on your rod, to raise the quality one level extra.

aahn i see i'll give it a try, Is the quality of a fish injected by luck? like if it was a lucky day could it be gold star. and what would you recommend as my setup for the quest cause I need 2 cork bobbers for the length of my bar otherwise I cant perfect score it. the angler fish is in the beginning really fast and cause up to the top if my bar i a lil shorter i would be able to keep up with his start speed to the top.

Luck has less to do with it than the distance from land. You could try to eat something with better fishing bonus than trout soup, since that just gives you a +1. It could give you a big enough bar that you could go for cork bobber + quality bobber.
Seafoam Pudding with its Fishing +4 bonus would be a lot better, but it has a bit short duration and can be tricky to cook if you don't have the ingredients.
Dish O' The Sea, Lobster Bisque, and Fish Stew all give +3, and the bonus from the latter two will last pretty much all day.

*checks fishing info* Seems like raising your fishing level to 14 with the help of Seafoam Pudding would give you a chance to catch a gold quality angler without needing the quality bobber, that is, iridium quality with perfect catch.

Congratulations, and good luck with the Glacierfish and the Legend. Those two are always the toughest for me, and I haven't ever tried to get them triple iridium.
