i have been trying to get cave jelly. i have a spicy eel and an iridium rod. i have fished on lvl 20 in the mines all day using my eel at the start, every day i reset the day if i don't catch one.. i haven't caught one in over 20 resets!

i tried using bait, not using bait, casting far, casting short, using bait thats not for that aria, the training rod. i lost it a decided some thing must be up.

THEN.. i loaded a different save, went to lvl 20 in the mines cast my rod with bait and boom! cave jelly first try. so i reset the day.. same thing.. every try i get a cave jelly about first try, some times its a fish or a algae and then cave jelly or its jelly first go. i tested over and over and the same thing.

now im curious, its too consistent to be a coincidence!

i found that if i use bait not for that aria the pattern brakes.. untill i remove the bait.. then boom cave jelly first go even if i have done 10 casts with the other bait first.

there is clearly a pattern to getting jelly that is not just chance. like some stack or some thing. its almost like the bait has its own jelly order and its set. by what i dont know im still experimenting.

i also noticed its most consistent if i do long casts rather than short ones.

this is confirming my suspicions that my original file that cant get jelly is just predetermined by something not to get one.

does any one know what is going on?
im on xbox s/x.

Check the TV for daily luck on that save. It's harder to get jelly on bad luck days.
i have read from multiple other places that TV luck has no influence on jelly chance. its neutral on the no jelly save. and this would not explain the crazy consistency of catching jelly on the jelly save. its basically guaranteed.. it also would not explain the astonishing bad luck that in 20 resets not one jelly

Hmm. Yeah you're right about that, I double-checked the wiki and it appears that it's the luck buff which affects jelly odds. This is what the wiki's article on Cave Jelly has to say on the Mine floors:

The highest possible rates for Cave Jelly are when fishing on Floor 100 of the Mines. When fishing in this location there are only 3 possible catches: Cave Jelly, Lava Eel, and Trash. Any rod other than the Training Rod may be used, as the Training Rod removes both Cave Jelly and Lava Eel from the pool of possible catches. The chance of catching a Lava Eel can be reduced by fishing closer to the shore, marginally increasing the chance of catching a Cave Jelly.
At this level, ordinarily, 5% of casts that do not catch a Lava Eel will result in a successful Cave Jelly catch. Each level of Luck Buff increases the chance by 5%.[1] So with +5 Luck, 30% of non-Lava Eel catches will be Cave Jelly.
Unlike other locations, fishing on Floor 100 of the Mines does not use a predetermined value to determine whether the farmer successfully catches a Jelly.

So it looks like your save isn't suffering from bad RNG but from bad predetermined values. In other words, you're permanently unlucky for that day (at least) so long as you don't fish on Level 100.

fascinating! thanks for that, i checked the wiki and never saw that little bit at the end about the value. i wunder what the value is and how its made, and WHEN lol. like is that file just bad luck on floor 20 today or always 🧐.

worryingly the good jelly file i remember being realy happy when i caught the jelly first go on floor 20 when i first needed one on that save.
