Ancient fruit, less headache with the seed maker when I want another harvest. Plus, what kind of fruit isn't cook-able? Seems suspicious that I can't make jelly.

rare gem berries and ancient fruit aren't edible (directly for ancient fruit) ... I know that some fruits are like that and need to be cooked but that's not possible with rare gem berries and ancient fruit needs to be turned into jelly and wine before you can actually eat it. Once I forgot and brought a whole load of ancient fruit to the mines as food when I got attacked but then I realized that it wouldn't provide health or energy but luckily I brought some eggs. good.

Shaft or Ladder? Skull Caverns
(shaft all the way)
Shaft. Every time.
Fried Mushrooms or Crabcakes?
Crabcakes. I attack everything, so that defense boost comes in handy.
pumpkins or cranberries?
Both, but if I have to choose one: cranberries.
potatoes or parsnips
Always potatoes (in game and irl).
Galaxy Sword or Dragontooth Cutlass
Galaxy Sword. By the time I get the Cutlass, I've enhanced it to my liking and have no issue killing everying, so why bother switching it out?
Fairy or frog trinket?
Fairy to equip. Frogs for my terrarium.
Pine tree or oak tree?
Oak. I use far more oak resin than pine tar and I like the way they change with the seasons.
pigs or sheep?
Honestly, most of my farms have neither, but I prefer sheep.
Cookies or brownies?
Cookies.
ancient fruit or rare gem berry?
Rare seed/gem berry. They look cool, you can plant then in garden pots, and they're incredibly valuable without any processing.
the weird alien event or the stone owl event
Stone Owl. I have so many of them decorating each farm that I've grown fond of them. Plus, they look cool and, irl, owl statues help scare away garden pests.

Dog or Cat for starting pet?

I usually start with a dog. Mainly because I love dogs, but I also feel like every farm needs a good dog (or more) to keep predators away and keep the farmer company.

probably cat. the dog drops swords but i can find swords more often by cracking up the barrels and crates in the mines, but it's a little harder with fish and the cat could help you complete the fish bundle early.
