What are your opinions on AI

i think ai gets a bad rep, in reality it actually does a lot of good for society and makes a lot of advances - but all people see is generative ai and think that’s all artificial intelligence is - which it’s not, there are many forms of ai other than generative ai.

as for generative ai, i think it’s just harmful in general. the image generation feature is my least favorite; artists have to be some of the nicest and hardest working people and now you can just replicate those thousands of hours they spent on making art using a computer algorithm.

on the bright side, things like merl exist and we can get a good laugh out of them!

to be honest, Image generation AI is really bad at the one thing it was made for

I think AI as a mechanical tool is fine, like if you're using it to do math, summarize your own notes, find errors in your grammar/code, or things like that. On the other hand, AI as a generative tool for art feels very wrong for multiple reasons.

I enjoy the concept of AI. I think it would be really cool if it were a reality.

however, what we have is not "Artificial" intelligence. what we have is "Android" intelligence. true AI would effectively have a real soul in there somewhere and be able to feel emotions, and while some AI currently have professed that they do, they are almost certainly lying.

which brings the question of AI ethics and morality, which is its own rabbit hole. without going too deep, AI, like most things that can be abused easily. it's like the triforce. it depends on the wielder.

my honest opinion is that AI would make a great tool, if we could trust it, however, I do not trust the people who created it. there are too many of their imprints of their signatures on AI that speak of I'll will, their Da'at, so to speak, and it is an ill omen. I believe there needs to be complete oversight on AI currently, otherwise it has the potential to do extreme evil upon our world, because just like we supposedly reflect the nature of our creator, so too does AI, and honestly, I would not let these people babysit my child, so why should I let my child interact with their sub creation?

Yeah it's not the problem with the AI itself it's the problem with the people who create it. The data AI gets from users isn't beneficial for the AI itself it's beneficial to the company behind it and they sell that data for billions. Companies like Nvidia are purposefully pushing AI into our faces and abusing it for financial growth. AI isn't inherently evil obviously since it's not sentient but it is made by evil people. There the ones who are wasting all the electricity and all the water cooling the servers in order to keep the AI running. Also it's nothing to be afraid of since really eventually the bubble is gonna burst and everything is gonna crash. AI taking the job of artists is definitely not foreseeable because AI "art" is terrible lmfaoo. AI also has terrible coding capability and makes buggy code.

I personally don't want AI to be anywhere as prevelant as it is in Sci-fi movies and such. I don't wana order a cup of coffee by swiping on a screen and instructing my AI assistant. AI can never replace human interaction neither can it remotely come close. I don't want it to be talking I don't want it to be showing emotion. There's no way I'm trusting it for anything.

You need humans to find errors in AI code lmfaoo. AI grammar is also very robotic and makes you sound like Chatgpt. I personally think Ai should be used for math or scientific research. Even coding if it somehow gets good enough. Writing is such a personal and intimate thing that just should not be touched by AI. You can have terrible grammar but still your style of typing and writing is your own. I hold it in the same category as AI image generation.

AI is already being used to kill people in Ukraine, but fortunately it's mostly not autonomous work yet. mostly target ID and EW stuff, but it's already heading down a bad path on that front

These kinda uses are much more likely than AI taking over society. Shame it doesn't get any mainstream attention and everyone is worried about AI taking all the jobs.
