Am I far enough?

What should I do next?

  • House Upgrade 2?

  • Upgrade all my tools to copper? (My axe is Sliver)

  • Make a new friend? (Follow up post will be who)

  • Build a new coop/barn?

Hey Farmers! I am currently at the door to Summer of Year 2, but I don’t know if my farm has lived up to that time stamp. Attached is a screen shot if my farm, so could y’all judge it? Please use kind words and constructive criticism!
By the way, I am married to Haley, and we’re fourteen hearts:heart::heart::heart::haley:

Well, the first thing I can see is that you need to work at getting that greenhouse repaired. The Community Center bundles are huge. The greenhouse gets you an interior space you can grow anything in or out of season. The rest are all super useful too.

As for the poll... I mean... you have to get all your tools upgraded to steel ASAP (it's regular > copper > steel > gold > iridium). As they are improved, it'll make your job so much easier. Fewer strikes to fell trees, break up rocks. You can charge up your hoe and watering can to get more tiles at a time.

You should also get the house upgraded because you need to upgrade again to get a cellar. You can double the value of quite a few things by putting them in casks down there.

Now, to the question posed in your thread title? You are far enough. Many others would be further, but those folks have more experience, I'm sure. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it right.

Thank you! I will work on those bundles! I finished the crafts room.

If you would rate my farm 1-10 stars for my time, what would rate it.

Ooooh... um... hmmm... I'd rather rate it on a scale from lazy to hardcore, and I'd say comfortable. I really don't like judging others.

I'll just tell you where I'm usually at by the end of year 2 (just a little further along than you are), and you can see where you fall in there, and maybe see what you'd like to shoot for in the future?

At the end of year 2, Grandpa's ghost will evaluate the farm (rating of 0-4 candles at the altar)... and in my very first playthrough I got 3 candles. Since then, I always get 4 (which comes with a very nice reward). That typically means that my cumulative earnings are over 1 million, I've completed the entire Community Center (and as I'm not big on fishing, the last bundle completed is usually the Aquarium), my 5 skills have an average level of 6 or higher (total of at least 30 skill levels), have 8  with at least 5 people, received the message that my pet loves me (happens when you max friendship with him/her), gotten married and upgraded the house at least twice (so could start having kids), donated at least 60 items to Gunther at the museum, and reached the bottom of the mines. In addition, I usually have a field of the most expensive crop that keeps producing after planting in my greenhouse for a constant supply of that to make wine from.

And on that scale of lazy to hardcore that I mentioned? I'm not hardcore. I'm barely dedicated. 🤪 Most hardcore folks quit and start a new game after Fall of year 2, and to be honest, that's just crazy to me. There are parts of the game that you literally can NOT get to until year 3 (like seriously, there are parts of the game that don't unlock until certain dates, and some don't unlock until year 3).

Anyway, I hope this gives you inspiration and does not make you feel like you aren't doing well. Because, as I said, if you're having fun, you're doing it right. If you want to do more faster, though, I'd be happy to give advice without judgment. 🙂

Like Imnvs said, if you're having fun, then you're good! I'd definitely recommend working on upgrading all your tools as much as you can, that will make things a lot easier.

As for your farm, you can space out your scarecrows a bit more, they have a bigger range than you might expect: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Scarecrow#Range
And if you have the materials for it, I'd recommend crafting a few sprinklers!

I agree that you should upgrade your tools, but you should also upgrade your coop. It will help complete the greenhouse. You can put your cheese press in the barn if you would like. But I like your farm and I think you are doing well. My first farm took a while to get up and running; I think you farther along then I was.

At this point upgrading your weapons and crafting some sprinklers would put you ahead. I believe the sprinklers will help a lot with maintaining a big crop space, wich will result in more money so you can upgrade everything. But I must remember not only you, but everyone, that there is no right way to play this game, the real question is, did you enjoy it? Are you havng fun going the way you are? If the aswer is yes, than continue doing your thing.

Yeah, I am. I like the openness, and the vibes. Thank you for your feedback!

You sure play the game at very relax pace. I recommend to upgrade all your tools, you won't regret it.

Try mining, it will help you to craft artisan products that will increase your profit.

Do it your way, the farm is coming along nicely. I am a big fan of the lazy farm build over the aesthetic farm, I don't even make friends with any of the NPCs until well into year 3 the only exception is Linus for the wild bait crafting recipe. I have never run a single errand from the notice board on Piere's shop on any of my farms, can't be bothered, but I do make sure to have everything I need each season for the community center bundles. Watch Youtube videos for hints and tips but the main thing is just enjoy the game, that's the secret......

I'm probably at a similar stage to you. I'm ahead you in some things and behind in some, but I'd definitely go for the house upgrade. Make sure to screenshot your og house interior before you see it for the last time though.
