Hm. Maybe a bit on the poisonous side? I think in-game all Fish don't work for the soup as I added an Iridium sea creature of some flavor and found out the hard way that Mr. Governor is no pescatarian. Seems he likes Fruits and Veggies more.

Actually Gold Catfish is one of the easier ways to get the best result year one! It's all based on value (with a few specific exceptions like pufferfish), I just think that high-end crops are a bit easier to come by then high-end fish early on.

Yeah generally adding something poisonous to a soup doesn't go down well with the whole town....
That being said, you are on the right track for a proper good ingredient, high quality/high value fish and crops are the easiest choices, something like gold catfish/sturgeon/cauliflower are pretty easy to get and net a fair few friendship points with everyone.

I’ve had luck with mayo as well. Of course it’s easier on the new 1.6 farm to get it in time.

If you had a Coop start on the new map, may I suggest Gold Star Mayo as 'Best Response' option? Large Eggs always become gold star mayo. Similarly, gold star cheese always nets the 'best' response as well.
