Ducks

Ducks are okay. If you have more than 1, then there is no problem. You don't want them for their eggs, anyway... Only chicken and ostrich eggs, get better quality when processed.

I got eight ducks in my coop

And they only lay three eggs

My chickens give me eggs everyday

Where as my rabbits have a chance of giving wool and rabbit foot

Does anyone else have problems with ducks laying a small amount of eggs?

Or if they dont lay eggs, then i get feathers from them

Let me know
Ducks only produce every other day. Feathers are the high value items and ducks have a chance to produce them instead of eggs (higher chance with higher friendship), but getting feathers instead of eggs potentialy makes more money. Feathers cost 250 G at base value while eggs cost 190 G at iridium quality, so it is better to get feathers. However, if you have artisan, eggs will always be more profitable as you can turn them into mayo.

Personally, I solve the lower duck production rates by having more ducks. In my last playthrough, I ended up with 2 ducks that produced on different days, so I got 1 item every day. And the rates are not that bad - rabbit takes 4 days, for example so in the grand scheme of things they produce relatively quickly

So my question is that how is it possible that chickens give you eggs everyday, but not ducks?

Its ridiculous i tell you

No offence

Goats also produce milk every second day while cows do it every day. Rabbits and sheep don’t produce everyday. Some crops take longer to grow then others. Why do you think that is ridiculous? It would be very boring if every animal worked the same way.

Its not about boring

All i said was that it is ridiculous that ducks dont give you eggs everyday

Thats all i said

Well, ducks and chickens are similiar (just saying)

But if that is how the game is,then fine

I have to respect that

These are special mutant ducks. The same amazing chemical properties that make their feathers so highly sought after, causes a slight reduction in their fertility, so fewer eggs.

or whatever headcanon you prefer.

I think it's mostly for game balancing. Ducks are much better than chickens, and having them produce everyday would make chickens basically obsolete. Producing eggs everyday gives chickens a unique advantage so that they are still useful even when you have ducks unlocked. Different animals/weapons/upgrades/whatever having different strengths and weaknesses is actually a very important aspect of game development and making a game interesting and fun to play. You see it in shooters where more powerful weapons like snipers have longer recharge/use time and weaker weapons are faster and the same principle applies here.

It's so that you get a more unique interaction and can pursue either as viable instead of the duck being a retextured or objectively better/worse chicken

Instead of harvesting and processing daily, you can harvest and process every 2 days and the duck egg/mayo are worth more (but not worth 2x more than the chicken, so you'll get more from the chicken for the cost of needing to spend more time for that extra cash).

You should be happy getting duck feathers, they're valuable gifts for a couple npcs, needed for the community center, and worth a pretty penny all things considered (around the same value as duck mayo though doesn't need to be processed)

It depends on the type of farm you are playing. On farms with few water bodies or small ones like the standard farm, it happens rarely, on farms with lots of water like riverlands or beach farms, it happens more frequently because ducks have more opportunities to be near water and thus, to randomly jump into it as their next move. As a bonus, ducks that swim do not need to be fed.

I believe also you have to pet them first before they will swim.
